Any Nairalander out there knows which language would be suitable for programming mobile applications, especailly the one s which can function without a JAVA enabled phone. Presently, i'm more of a .NET guy and i'll like to know whether my C#/VB .NET stands a chance (especially in future telephony) against the JAVA language. Any pro's advice out there could save some of us the stress of learning so many languages when one can just learn what is needed.

Dude your best bet is to go with Java, it doesn't seem that .NET will ever catch up to Java on the mobile scene. C++ still has a fighting chance, but that's just in the smart phone/symbian market. You could also look into FlashLIte though (A version fo flash for mobile phones)

Sure, Java is d way to go. Over 80% of phones are java enabled (as at 2002). Now nko? Probably a much higher percentage.
.Net? Except phones with Microsoft CE as OS.
Just learn Java and maybe some WAP programming. And do it quick!!!
