Akyus,
COREN mean council for the regulation of engineering in Nigeria. It is a body responsible for regulating engineer practice in Nigeria. COREN is to Engineering, what Nafdab is to food and drugs. It was established by constitution. It register engineering personels and firms.

However, you can't just walk to COREN office and seek registration as an Engineer. You must first be a registered member of an Engineering association recognized by COREN. NSE is the oldest and most popular engineering association in Nigeria. It is the most vibrant engineering body in Nigeria. Even COREN is not as active as NSE. Also, most of COREN's Presidents, are at one stage NSE presidents. It is also intructive to note that NSE Presidents and chairmen are members of Engineering council hosted by COREN. And most of COREN's activities are executed through NSE.

u have to register for NSE first before COREN. to register for nse, go to www.nse.org.ng and download the application form there.u will also sit for the exam.
As for what i want on this thread, i want us to discuss our challenges and success. i am presently nearing the end of my second project hoping to be transfered to another in december. it is a water treatment plant in ilorin using lamella clarifier which is a new method in use now.

Mariajane,
could you educate us about marketing communication? What does it take to succeed as a professional? Certainly, I want to know what one need to establish one. The advertising world are becoming the silent king upon whose others depend for survival.

I also want to know what is the difference and similarity between it and Branding.

as a civil engr, one of the challenges i face is how to control the workers under me. some are gentle and civil while others are rough and mean. keeping them working together without conflictis a major challenge. u don't want anything that will affect the productivity of the company. so u must seen to be fair to everybody in allocation of duties.

hi all

I just finished writing my final ICAN exam yesterday, I can't wait to be a pro and join those cabals up there.

This is a nice post from a forward thinking fellow of this forum.

you can ask me questions on accounting and other areas in management. I can contribute in the area of brand management and developmnent because i work in advertising company.

It may interest everyone to know that advertising industry is part of the engine room driving our economy today, brand management is as important as the core business for any company today. That is why all the banks are using more than one agency to pool ideas about growing their businesses.

I'm in the telecoms services industry and we provide backup for telecoms service providers. I would also like to say that the major problem facing us is FUNDING. In the country, their is zero funding for start up firms that makes it extra difficult for businesses survive.

mechanical engieering student corrently on IT. chalenges so far experienced:

1. most big engineering firms still use foreign specialist. e.g. breweries sector, oil and gas sector

2. lack of proper practical training in tertiary intsitutions

3. lack of millionaires to invest in production or manufacturing business.

4. mentallity of nigerians towards engineering.

5. no functional ministry or institution into research in enginnering fields.

6. lack of educated leaders for too long who don't understand that the country with the most technology will rule the world. and others will pay billions for it.

There is nothing as good as having a club based on speciality. What I mean by this is, having a club for e.g Mechanical  Engineering student for doing researches and invention, Medical Students reseach groups and on.

If the above can be done, I believe we're going to get to where we are aiming for.
