Sorry please for interferring Undecided Kiss

But could you guys throw more lights on fixed deposit interest calculations. I think the rating differs from bank to bank. For GTB bank, a deposit of 100k to 1million . . .attracts an annual interest rate of 8.5% for 30days etc. & I discovered that as the day increases beyond 30days e.g. 45days, 60days, 90days etc the percentage decreases Shocked. Does it mean that they do not encourage long-time deposit or what?. Morealso, for how long can you advise someone to operate a fixed deposit. Someone needs to be enlightened plzzzzzzz. Wink

you are right , the longer the days the lower the rate- this cos of inherent risks associated with holding funds at a particular rate for too long, the cbn can come up wit their monetary measures anytime and tell me if u give a rate of 12% for a year and within three months bcn ask bank to reduce their rate to 9%, dont u think the depositors probably not want to understand the bank,no matter the explanation.

HELLO
 OlowoTee
Look through the interest rate very well.the longer the fixed deposit the higher the interest rate, except you want to call off the deposit. visit the customer service dept of any nearest bank for detailed information

madame , thats not true.

Thank you so much for this reply, I appreciate your response! I actually discovered that the lady on desk(Customer Unit) was being careful to give me full details, Cause it was indeed strange to me when I saw the decline in percentage.

I now know better then,  Smiley Thank you.

about the intrest rate on fixed deposit, the longer the period the higher the rate. PLS check your directory again. although they dont encourage longer periopd like one year but if you fix for one month you can instruct them to real roll at every maturity. if you have seen the rate like u claimed i am sure there was a mistake.

Fixed deposit rates are normally determined by the treasury cycle. for most banks 60 days is normally the highest while 30 and 90 days are priced @ a little lower rate.

My only grouse is that most a time, the HR pips don't take core competence into consideration.
I for one, i had a multi-disciplinary background(first degree:Agric. Economics, and Second degree:Information Science), and to my utmost disbelieve, i was posted to a cash and teller unit. This is at Oceanic Bank.
Deep  down me i love Custome Care management, i have seen the manner in which customers are cared for, but to my utter dismay, i ALWAYS believe, i can and would re-orient these our customer servive unit personnel.
I thank JAH for the job sha!!!!

How do u mean? Banks  only stuctured interest rates according to their liabilities which most times are short term. I cant go into details now,its called  matching concept in banking.

it all depend te when you are booking a fix deposit it any bank and you are not sure of when to  use the money leave an instruction with the bank to during application process and to roll over the investment after every 30days with the agreed terms and conditions with that  your interest rate remains the same no matter changes in markert or cbn interest rates

Yes bank work can be very stressful. However the pay is very good for most new generation banks.  However the bumper pay is where the problem starts for most people. Most bankers live in a fantasy world because of the fat pay. They hardly save not to talk of investing. My advice to us bankers - invest wisely and also build your own business by the side. Take it or leave it, this bank work wont last forever. Someday your employer would ask you to go or you might see retirement staring you in the face. Tell me if you have not started building your own business by then and you do not have a fat investment, what would be your fate.

For me I am a banker but I also engage in my own business during the weekends. I would be glad to have other bankers join me in this venture. If you are interested in knowing more about my business contact me at ogucelo at yahoo dot com

To our success

How don we move the banking industry forward.
« #253 on: June 02, 2008, 04:20 PM »

Its obvious that there are so many things wrong with the our system even though we have created wealthy banks, they are not doing much of investing into the system, the fundamental role of financial intermediation is not being achieved.

Brillant ideas  are not being financed and the processes are so long and yet we are building branches in Gambia , Ghana and  China.

We need to ask ourselves if we are truely creating New Wealth or just  moving cabalas around.

My pips how do we move this industry forward?

H.R, MARKETING OR OPERATIONS?

CABAL conotes your current deposits, d total deposits u have under your name as Relationship manager, the total amount your customers have deposited in d bank,

as for the stress, each dept has their own unique stress,  Mktrs and their Targets, Operation staff battle to keep the customers in d bank and most times (like my own bank) we close late, prone to fraudulent transactions, plus i work on saturdays too, so in d end, u have no personal life, H.R might be a batter choice but then, the'ye got their own headache. .
