Yes bank work can be very stressful. However the pay is very good for most new generation banks.  However the bumper pay is where the problem starts for most people. Most bankers live in a fantasy world because of the fat pay. They hardly save not to talk of investing. My advice to us bankers - invest wisely and also build your own business by the side. Take it or leave it, this bank work wont last forever. Someday your employer would ask you to go or you might see retirement staring you in the face. Tell me if you have not started building your own business by then and you do not have a fat investment, what would be your fate.

For me I am a banker but I also engage in my own business during the weekends. I would be glad to have other bankers join me in this venture. If you are interested in knowing more about my business contact me at ogucelo at yahoo dot com

To our success

How don we move the banking industry forward.
« #264 on: June 02, 2008, 04:20 PM »

Its obvious that there are so many things wrong with the our system even though we have created wealthy banks, they are not doing much of investing into the system, the fundamental role of financial intermediation is not being achieved.

Brillant ideas  are not being financed and the processes are so long and yet we are building branches in Gambia , Ghana and  China.

We need to ask ourselves if we are truely creating New Wealth or just  moving cabalas around.

My pips how do we move this industry forward?

CABAL conotes ur current deposits, d total deposits u have under ur name as Relationship manager, the total amount ur customers have deposited in d bank,

as for the stress, each dept has their own unique stress,  Mktrs and their Targets, Operation staff battle to keep the customers in d bank and most times (like my own bank) we close late, prone to fraudulent transactions, plus i work on saturdays too, so in d end, u have no personal life, H.R might be a batter choice but then, the'ye got their own headache. .

Bankers' Union
« #269 on: June 30, 2008, 03:39 PM »

Took me a while before locating this great room.
Something very critical and criminal came to ma mind.
The issue of Bankers' Union in Nigeria is worrying ma soul.

Critical in the sense that, it might be the solution for bank employees and criminal because
the so called employers (Nigerian Banks) throw a lot shits (sorry for that word) at employees.

I really want to know if one exists, if yes, what is it doing?
if not, why?

I really don't mind anybody's opinion about this topic.

Delaronte: Be blessed for your frank and insider insight. The banks declare billions yet real investment and small businesses are not funded. What intelligence and creativity do you need to learn money to Dangote Industry. He will always pay given his assets. The real banking lies in discovering an entreprenuer with passion and courage (ala Google, Netflix, You Tube) and husbanding his or her ideas into game-changing and industry transforming business.

Sadly our banks are light years away.

BENEFITS OF INVESTING IN STOCKS
« #273 on: July 23, 2008, 05:33 AM »

There are numerous benefits attached to investing in stocks. Some of these benefits are realized in the short term while some are realized in the longer term. The benefits include;
1.   Dividends
2.   Bonus shares
3.   Capital appreciation
4.   Voting right
5.   Collateral
6.   Protection against inflation
7.   Semi-liquid investment
8.   Right issue
9.   Ease of transfer
10.   Base asset
11.   Good savings

>   DIVIDENDS:
At the end of a fiscal year, the company calculates the profit it made and pays you some money out of it (called dividends) depending on the number of shares you have in the company, don’t forget that you still own and keep your shares, you are just being paid part of the profits because you are a shareholder.

Ø   BONUS SHARES
Bonus shares are extra shares given to you in addition to the number of shares you already have in the company. This is a good way of increasing the number of shares one has in a company and many companies do this a lot. In 2007,Zenith bank plc gave a bonus of 1 for 4 (1: 4), this means that if you have 10000 units, you are given extra 2500 units to make your total stock equal to 12500. Also in 2008 Julius Berger plc gave 3 for 1 (3: 1). This means that,

@amievivian
"hey!! are u guys saying that we, u know, the unemployed corpers like me shld lay off the banking scene?! i mean you're really scaring me off,
still at work by 10pm?!"

My Response to Amievivian
I think your individual  preferences and strenghts are key when choosing a career and not what others may think or experience. What others may regard as stress and completely demotivating could be a source of inspiration for you because it is your passion. Here are some of the likely questions you should  answer before choosing a career or job hunting-what do you hope to achieve in say 3-5 years, what are your goals , passions etc? Is the job in line with what you hope would give you the necesary platform to jump start your career?,if they are then you would more likely than not be able to defy the odds and acheive excellence in your choosen field .

I'm a Banker myself and its been very educative and challenging and I couldn't possible have been happier or more fufilled anywhere else.

So amievivian, I would engourage you to follow your passion ,you'll never get it wrong that way.

Hello house,
I hope we still have bankers in this place.
I have an offer to pick up from Oceanic bank on Monday as an ET and also Fidelity bank later next week.

Please house which one should i go for?

Lets consider all the pros and cons because I'm not just interested in the pay alone but all about carrier building, job security, less pressure in case of marketing, and promotions.
Thanks for yours intended response

I feel sorry for bankers.

How can someone be given N500m as deposits to source in 3 months.

The stress is seen in their life, no time for self and families, long hours of working, leaving home too early, the worst is zero job security.

God help them.
