Wenger will only touch special English kids that can compete with the class he already has in his team, hence the fact we have Theo, Cole used to be one of the classy players we had but his greed got the best of him (Typical English player), the likes of Fat Frank, the yids from down the road and even Wright Phillips would not make it into our first team
How typical of Arsenal!  Tongue
Everyone that rejects Arsenal and accepts Chelsea is thrash abi?
I guess we are so quick to forget that Arsenal actually wanted Wright Phillips  Wink

So is Theo in your first team?  Huh

Lets not get into an argument now, yes Arsenal actually wanted him but do u think Wright Phillips is better than Hleb? This has nothing to do with me being an Arsenal fan, i did praise Cashley Cole didn't i. Look how i didn't mention the better English players in my comparison.

Theo's only 17 and is fast developing, u can truely judge him in another 3-4 years but he's heading in the right direction

Akola, which one you dey? Against England or For England? I never knew the Croats could tap leather like that, kai!!!.

Those croats made the the English playas look like conference ballers! Gerrard was absolutely missing from that game, Fat Lamps singular action of placing that ball in the net inspite ofthe pressure shows that he's a big game player, besides that he was as useless as Carson!!!.

Sincerely, the English should have no excuse. However, injuries knocked them out, thats what everybody have to know, no matter the hate! A team without one of the best centre-halves in the EPL-Rio & Terry, Owen the brother of Robben, Wazza, Gazza (Neville) and others was bound to suffer.

Imagine having Lescott & Sol as your Centre half? Try Isaac Okoronkwo & Enakhaire! Infact, I swear Obinna Nwaneri & Romanus Orjinta in that team would have done a better job! Grin Grin.

Akola, what happened to Wayne bridge? Na so so Akamu & Garri those croatians use am drink! The whole England team looked Jaded and they even forgot they were at Wembley. Well the result biols down to clueless coaching and for a while, them overpaid boyz need to sit their asses down.

Akola, Just like Cronaldo was used as a scapegoat for the WC 2006, Just like David Beckham was axed and crucified for England's WC 1998, Expect Wenger's ass to be Fried & salted like a French fry. Watch this space as the clueless English Press blame him fortheir woes! Ofcos, we all know Wenger is part of the problem!  Grin Grin Grin. abi no be so?

## This is the weakest group in Europe Nations cup qualifier ##

## Mac don't have too much blame but how could a hungry team fielded two of the most PLAYFUL players in the wings, that is   Joe Cole & SWP?

### That was definitely worst match for Wayne bridge Cry ###

Lets examine Roy Keane's comment

Quote
"Technically you have got to be able to handle the ball. These top countries who are constantly qualifying and winning tournaments have that.

"Having said that and if you look at some of the England players, they're ******* good players.

"But certainly if you look at some of the England players and the England set-up, and to be from the outside looking in - just my opinion - there are too many egos in there, too many big heads.

"If you get carried away with any little bit of success, then you're in trouble.

"I look at the England set-up and they don't look a happy bunch, and their body language sometimes isn't great. As good as they are players; good players don't make good teams.

Mourinho, 44, has been out of football since leaving Stamford Bridge in September but is believed to be waiting for a club rather than a national post.

@Rikkyjen

England ouster could be attributed to few factors among the following;

1) Tactical Error

England played 4-5-1 to Croatia's 4-4-2. I still wondered how England 5 cannot outplay and outshine Croatia's 4. Super Frank, Steven and others cannot match those guys at all.

If i am england coach, i could have use Bentley on the right and  Ashley Young on the left. Both are hungry and highly talented players.

SWP and Joe Cole don't understand the difference between an exhibition match and a "Do_or_Die match"

I still don't understand why Nairalanders so much love Joe Cole

Owen hagreaves ought to be given a chance later in the game to come and "close shop"

2) Roman's Gesture

I believe some money exchanged hand between Roman and the Croats. Why are those guys playing as if its a world cup final? Undecided

Pride or no pride.

That is too much.

Recall that Croatia and Russians are from the former USSR( soviet Union)

@ Akola,

You are flogging a dead horse.
Of course, a Russian billionaire offered incentives to Croatia for beating England.
Spartak Moscow owner Leonid Fedun donated 4 Mercedes Benz cars to Croatia's top 4 players after the match in Wembley.
I doubt if Eduardo of Arsenal was among the players that eventually got the car keys but Pompey's Niko Krancjcar got one. Grin Grin Grin

As per the tactical error . . . .I am having a smile.
It was Arsene Wenger that suggested England should play 4-5-1 at home . . . Is that formation familiar to u?
That was the same tactics that nearly made Arsenal lose at the Emirates when they played Man Utd. Grin Grin Grin
don't blame McClaren . . . . .Wenger confused him. Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue

@ Akola & Chacal!

I actually read the wenger statement about playing 4-5-1 prior to the game. Wenger must be clueless like Mcclaren. England playing 4-5-1 at home? Its like suggesting that Nigeria should play the 06/07 3-4-3 Barca style. It would always amount to failure!

Aint 4-5-1 defensive?Mcclaren had Defoe on d bench for effing sake! How the croats busted England's Bubble in Wembley still dazes me. I mean, 'em Croats had qualified already, so why all pulling all the muscles on the pitch that day?

Akola, I still can't forgive peeps for saying them English Boyz are overrated! Overpaid, Hell Yeah, but overrated? not definitely England's 1st 11.

Tactical blunder and being outright dumb was Mcclaren's albatross. In this kind of Games i trust Jose Mourinho! He doesnt mess around with his Negative football ( He woulda signaled to Drogba to start Diving, Cech to start wasting time & Robben start feigining Injury)!!!! Grin Grin Grin. Imagine fielding Carson? Why didn't he field Me? He shoulda contacted me!!!  Undecided Undecided Undecided

Ofcos, Roman promised them players Monetary rewards!!!. Anyways, as i said 'em Overpaid boyz should sit their butts down a bit!

if the 4-5-1 formation is 'defensive' why did England concede 3 goals??  Shocked Shocked

Formation was NOT the problem for England, a 4-5-1 would nick at least a goal if properly marshaled.

This issue stems from an inability to manage your players, why play Carson NOW when no other goalie has played in all the qualifiers before now?? (Foster started half a game) Someone who is 22 and played his first game only days ago??

Why not James (even if his middle name is calamity) or Green?

Why start SWP and leave an EXPERIENCED international like Beckham on the bench? What are you saving him for? Christmas??  Grin Grin

4-5-1 was not the problem, the boys cracked under pressure and were not good enough to play this Croat side - no cohesion, no understanding, NOTHING

Macca sucks as a man manager, you could bring Beckham and Campbell who are past their primes back, but couldn't convince Carra?? to come back? Imagine a Carra Campbell central defence, it would be much better than what we saw on display.

WHY KEEP PLAYING LAMPS AND GERRARD?? They NEVER click together on the pitch, stubborn Macca kept with it. That is not a fault of formation, if you play Pius Ikedia as your center back, you will concede goals no matter the formation.

if 4-5-1 was the issue, how come even with Defoe and Crouch, they still conceded a goal in the 2nd half? Face it, these boys were NOT good enough, beating Russia and co 3-0 at home made them feel they would steam roll Croatia. They lost this game in their heads.

PS the same 4-5-1 got us a 3-1 win at Reading so shut it Jackal  Grin

@Debosky

Maca is a Beckhamania. Remember he travelled to the State to watch David's exhibition match. He's just being careful about starting him [ Case study: Clemence Westerhof/Stephen Keshi @ USA '94)

Goalkeeper: Carson is doing wonders in the premiership. Beside James, he's probably the best english Goalie at the moment. British tabloid keep singing his praises weekly hence his invitation.

Even if England played 0-5-6 they would still have been unable to pick up a draw. Frankly England's loss was not a problem of formation but a chronic lack of technical ability.
Why was Owen Hargreaves on the bench for that game? What was Ashley Cole doing on the bench while Wayne Bridge constituted himself a calamity on the left side of defence?

England is too predictable . . . note what Bilic said, he knew the style would be long balls up to Crouch all night and that was exactly what England did throughout! Didnt someone think to change to plan B?
England lack the kind of creative footballers who can carve open a defence . . . they rely on brute strength, pace, effort, passion, get stuck in . . . against a Croatian side parading magnificent ball jugglers like Luca Modric?

Just look at the simplicity of Croatia's second goal . . . when last has England scored a goal remotely close to that?

I can't believe that England's loss is being blamed on AW's suggestion of playing a 4-5-1 formation? I thought Mclaren was in charge!!! Huh Huh,
I wonder if AW would have gotten praises if the suggestion had worked!
There's no pattern, england would have played that evening that could have saved them. The mentality was just not right!

Russia I am here shoot me through the screen.

England does not have bad players but are the players really world class in the real sense of the word? Aside Gerard. Forget about what the media says but when you watch players like Thierry Henry, Zidane, Luis Figo, Nesta, Cannavaro, Buffon, Vieira, Pirlo, Kaka, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Luca Toni, Oliver Kahn,  Shevchenko, Messi e.t.c at their prime Do you notice any difference from those English players? If you do, then that is the difference between a world class player and a good/decent player. If a so called/ self acclaimed power house and the home of football have only played a final in a century, then they have cause to worry.

England problem is the fact that they and the media think so highly of themselves. They should admit the fact that they are a second rated National team very far in quality and character from Germany, Brazil, Argentina, France, Italy and Holland who can claim to be the powers in the game. England at best is at par with countries like Spain, Croatia, Sweden, Czech, Romania, Portugal e.t.c and these are the countries they look down on.
In these tournaments that England play, don’t you see how pathetic they play? At the last world cup they huffed and puffed with teams like Trinidad, Ecuador, and Sweden before Portugal saved viewers the torture of watching that helpless 3 pussy cats. Did you also notice how Germany dispatched Sweden and Ecuador that England was laboring over? At Euro 2004 against Portugal and France they were so pathetic; they took early leads that should have spurred any team to play confidently but they were dismal to say the least and were aptly dismissed by their opponents. In 2002, can you remember the English performance against Argentina, Nigeria and Sweden before they met Brazil? They took an early lead before Brazil out thought them. Even when Ronaldinho got a red card in the 60th minute, for the next 30 minutes plus, England only managed a shot at goal from Danny Mills. Is that not ludicrous!!! In 2000 do you remember how tamely they played against Portugal and Romania despite taking early leads in the two games and they were fittingly beaten.

The issue of the coach is not totally acceptable to me because they have had other coaches and none of them seem to be good enough. Eriksson was bitterly criticized same with Keegan, Hoodle, Venables and Graham Taylor. If a student is always adducing his failure to bad teachers after changing teachers like 5 times I think it would be right for you to check the intellectual capacity of the student in question. Klinsmann without any managerial experience took Germany to the 3rd place in world cup, Dunga just won Copa America with Brazil B team and Joachim Loew; a coaching rookie was the first coach to qualify for Euro cup with Germany. Rudi Voller coached a world cup final. Del Bosque without much coaching experience won 2 UCL with Real Madrid because the quality was too much. He was even quoted that “As a coach of real Madrid you have the easiest job in the world because the players are all world class”.

England should go and do a self appraisal and overhaul the whole team because the future looks bleak if they have in the team people like Scot Carson, Lescott, Bridge, Micah Richards, Michael Dawson, David Bentley, Stewart Downing, I doubt Wayne Rooney and Walcott would be enough to bail them out.

Do you wonder why England never qualify nor do well in any age grade competition?
Talents are few and far between!!!!!!
