Which Novels Can You Read Over And Over Like The First Time?
« on: November 22, 2007, 08:16 PM »

After reading the thread about novels you'll like to see in a movie, i realised that I've read "The lonely Londoners" four times over since secondary school and i can still pick it up again because all the West Indian and Nigerian characters are hilariously crazy. So, What novel(s) can you read over and again?

I remember The Potter's Wheel. It is written by Chukwuemeka Ike. I read it over 20 years ago (maybe even about 25 years). One bit stuck in my mind even till this day - that is where the wicked headmasters wife put a snake in the boys bed because he continually wet his bed. I will love to revisit this book again.

1. Death Comes as the End - Agatha Christie.

A compelling detective story set in ancient Egypt, in the home of mortuary priest Imhotep. I have read this novel countless times and will never hesitate to read it again.

2. The Great Ponds - Elechi Amadi

Drives home the horrors of the deadly influenza epidemic of 18something (referred to as 'wonjo' in the book)

3. Figure it out for Yourself - James Hadely Chase

Yeah, I know many will thump their nose on this but this was my favourite (okay one of 'em) book by Chase. Read it a billion times and never got tired of it. Well crafted tale of false accusation and avarice.

4. The 7th Scroll - Wilbur Smith

5. The Mayor of Castabridge

6. Beau Geste

7. Chaka the Zulu - T. Mofolo

9. Things Fall Apart

10. Sorrows of Satan - Marie Coreli

11. The Secret of Luca

12. She/Return of She - Rider Haggard

13. The Bride Price - Buchi Emecheta

14. Ukwa Ruo Oge Ya - T Ubesie (Igbo romance novel  Grin)

15. Juo Obinna - Tony Uchenna Ubesie (Nigeria/Biafra civil war era gut busting comedy)

16. Juju Rock  Grin Grin

17 . No Longer at ease (Sequel to Things fall Apart)

19. Macbeth  Grin

20. Hamlet  Grin Grin

I vaguely recalled that she threatened to put the snake but don't think she actually did. I stand to be corrected though.

My favourites in Ike are 'Sunset in Biafra' and 'The Naked Gods'
