We Can Make A Difference In Nigeria
« on: November 25, 2007, 07:42 PM »

It takes people of integrity who are willing to sacrifice to change the course of history.

Do you want to make a difference in Nigeria for our own good and the good of all Nigerians?

Can you stand the temptation of monetary gain?

Do you believe Nigeria can be better than it is today?

Do you believe u have something to offer?

Are you a human being?

Then. . .

Where are those who desire change genuinely?

Not those who complain because they are not yet in the position to steal.

You may not get too many response to your posers
--We all blame everybody and the system except ourself
The attitude has to be right first before we can start any change.
For a start, @faketan, your attitude is right and we can all start from there

What attitude??? I ain't blaming no one for the situation of the country but the people themselves. The reason I decided to skip this post initially is cause I see nothing more than some dude trying to get people all wriled up once again,  just do not know where exactly he is going with this. Is he offering people money or something to make Nigeria better?? Does he have some sort of idea that he wants to post for all to jump on to?? Is this another one of those NEW NIGERIA FOR TOMMOROW people come to sell us on the dream of a better Nigeria as if we have not heard that one before?? What is this thread for??

@Kobojunkie

Not here for the sake of attention or whatever you may call. Dude I am a serious human being and it pains me so much when I know we are so blessed but we produce a little. We keep relying on the west to save us when the west is not willing to do so.

But I cannot say anything unless I get right caliber of Nigerians. The likes of Dora Those who can stand their grounds in the face of corruption. Those who still have some reserves in there integrity pouch.
Not here for rhetorics. I Know that it takes a few minds to make a difference I know we can do it. Come on board if u think u belong to this group of people.

I love Nigeria and i know we are going to see lots of positive changes. You have to be specific when you talk about change.
A lot of damage has been done, you cannot change everything at once, so you pick a sector you know you can influence positively and work out something you know you can do. We all have different strenghts, we could use them to bring change.
What area do u want to contribute to, I intend to work with Nigerians especially young people who are ready to talk and not blame shift , so we could have an action plan to do little little things which will make a small impact.

I am sorry if my being serious affects you in any way but

1) That post was not for you, it was for the poster who replied my post.
2) I do  not even get why I would have to wait for you since you never indicated you needed me to do that
3) Please chill  and try to chat with other people like you have respect for them in the least.

I'm from the ''new genetics'' school of thought, 'Mendel school' is a piece of cake! and i might be prosecuted for it. You know techniques like in-vitro fertilization, preimplantation diagnosis, gene therapy, gene cloning, genomics, protein and tissue engineering, gene knock and knock outs and so on.

sounds like it. Only people who just started learning what DNA looks like try to show us that they know too much. You'd think the rest of us where in villages learning to pound yam.

Mendel laid the foundations for modern genetics. To dismiss him as "piece of cake" or "old school" is to sound foolish. All those techniques you mention are grounded in Mendel's conclusions from studying inheritance.  - hereditary determinants are of a particulate nature. These determinants are called genes. - without that very conclusion we would still be roaming in the dark as regards gene knock outs, gene cloning, gene therapy e.t.c.

Mendel's First Law - the law of segregation; during gamete formation each member of the allelic pair separates from the other member to form the genetic constitution of the gamete

Still think its "old school" genetics?

i don't understand these young fellas trying too hard to put me in my place.i talk techniques not theory so i must be a researcher. new genetics has negate all the tenets of Mendel genetics, if you fellas are that smart u won't even mention Mendel in new genetics because the whole essence of it is that it disobey Mendel. the guys that just won the Nobel price in medicine won it on knock out/knock-in mice

U are stating Mendel's laws for me!!! unbelievable i got to grip with that at Government Science Secondary School, Ogaminana. I have just said it Mendel is a piece of cake. Transgenic organisms are much interesting, think dolly the sheep.

To be frank no one is "trying too hard" to put you in any place because you don't deserve the attention.
The only reason i bothered is because you say too much nonsense.

You claim new genetics negates the "whole essence" of mendel's laws and use the knock-out mice as examples . . . that is fallacy of the highest order.
There is nothing like "new genetics", new techniques yes, new tools to ask questions we couldnt ask before yes . . . all built on the same foundation of a man who spent his life observing inheritance in peas!

you talk about knock-out mice . . . this is based on mendel's first law of segregation - during gamete formation each member of the allelic pair separates from the other member to form the genetic constitution of the gamete.
If you understand how knock-out mice are generated in the first place that shld be easy enough to grasp.

Besides newer versions of pathology and medical textbooks still carry topics on mendelian inheritance. . . where do you then get off telling us mendelian laws are outdated?

chill young woman. It is not when you learnt it that matters but whether you are applying those techniques at all. While you are busy thinking dolly the sheep others are busy in labs as at present trying to manipulate genes across the hall. I work with transgenic animals on a daily basis and you are here talking "piece of cake". . .  Grin

my dear abeg stop making noise! keep reciting scientific terms as if that is the criteria for smartness and ordinary mendelian laws you are found wanting.

this is what happens when small children who just finished secondary school use their siesta period to play on the computer.

Tell us what you will contribute to nigeria and u are busy babbling about transgenic mice . . . as if u have ever handled or made one before. yeye people.
