To get the meaning of my name, check the 11th verse of the 55th chapter in the book of Isaiah which by the way is in the old testament of the bible. To get a glimpse at my character check John 1: 43 - 51. For the past 10 days our internet service providers have been disappointing and its not being helped by the 7 or 8 days we were forced to stay home due to the census. We are still calculating our losses even as our salaries are yet to be paid. The university of port Harcourt where i work, school and leave is still trying to take on some form of activity but we all know that it will not be the case until after the easter holidays which comes up mid month; the school calender started officially last Monday but no time table for lectures has been released.
Welcome to my world, where things happen rather dramatically. I look forward to going home from work; its really been a long day with high voltage blowing up as many as 4 computer monitors and the rains disrupting our services for as much as 20 minutes; not to talk of the power outage that lasted for as much as 3 hours. Indeed I give God praise for strength (i did consume 3 meat pies and 2 bottles of sprite) but we must thank him all the same for provision. I hope to read a bit at night for my taxation exam which comes up next tomorrow; by the way am doing my MBA with accounting as the option.

Got home to utter darkness. It was a terrible experience; i could not even eat or read just straight to bed and the night was cold. About 4am I could take it no more and had to drag myself to the reading table. By 5am light had come. I took a hot bath then left for the office by 7am. Today and Yesterday; I don't know which one was more challenging. We had to switch on the generators and leave the public electricity which is giving an output of 110 volts instead of 240 volts. By mid afternoon even that 110 fluctuating voltage was gone. The sun is high up in the sky and everywhere is humid. I have consumed 2 meatpies, 1 bottle of coke and 1 bottle of water today. My mom sent a mail from the US to say that we are very lucky to be living in Nigeria. Reason: A Tornado hit their region forcing them to take cover from the broken doors and windows. The TV station that was giving them instructions on how to take cover went off with the accompanying power cut. I have to read all night and all day tomorrow right into the examination which is slated for mid day.

I did not go to the cyber cafe early yesterday because I needed to mentally tune my mind for the academic task ahead. The examination titled advanced taxation was very tedious but I gave it my best shot. Needless to say by the time we finished it in 2 hours 30 minutes the tension was high. The ten of us were just shaking our heads in disbelief cause it was very loaded. I had to make a dash for the cyber cafe hoping that there could be a little distraction. I had just been hit by a nightmare in the middle of the afternoon in the name of an examination. I suddenly felt like throwing up; so i ordered for peppered chicken from Mr. Biggs which is at uniport junction. I thought the bird flu scare would have caused a decrease in price but it did not. I bought it for N330. In any case I was much more stabilized after that and I did my job quietly before going home. For the records, we did not make use of public electricity yesterday cause we can no longer afford the negative impact on our clients and networth.

Today was quite an eventful one with plenty of time for everybody. We had to close shop for 2 hours in observing a general lock out to protest against the low voltage emanating from the public power service popularly called NEPA but officially known as Power Holding Company of Nigeria. The university authorities have promised to rectify the problem within a short time but till then we will continue to run our generators. By the way i bought 150 litres of it @ N80. Got to run now cause I need all the sleep I can get.

Thank God for strength; although i was having a headache. I don't envy those of you who are married with cars. Things have stabilized a bit in the office; my boss had to climb the mast and re-earth the radio antenna separately, he also tightened the connectors which where loose. We did not use generator for the entire 10 hours that we were in the office today which is quite a relief to us in the management team. I had to drop the car at the mechanic, after which I proceeded to the classroom for my final lecture in Oil and Gas Accounting which was rescheduled from 10am to Midday. It altered my plans because I was supposed to pick the car by that time and also go to pick my cousins son from the boarding school which has closed for the easter break. It was really a terrible situation. I left the mechanic by about 12.50pm and entered the classroom very tired and unsettled. I left the classroom and did the school runs in record time but was now tired, hungry, dehydrated and with a headache. If I thought the cybercafe will ease my stress then I was in for a shocker. It was a picture that increased my pain. This our country is really becoming something else. Oh my God, indeed it appears a miracle will have to save my weekend. How can pastors preach against corruption when they wine and dine with the politicians who are the main players of the game? Is my eyes deceiving me? There must be a common denominator between all this people. My mind had just received a flashing and it needed to be cooled down. A bottle of coke with two tablets of paracetamol did it. Just look at the picture which was culled from one of our local newspapers.[img][/img]

Woke up feeling confused. I wonder if it was the smell of my baby sister's hair cream or the hangover of the picture above. In any case life must go on so the day began. Played a lot of afrobeat music while generally tidying up my room and preparing tickets for the cyber cafe. Its a Saturday so things will take time to warm up. At about 10.46am, I got to the cyber cafe and as usual there was no electricity. Feeling quite uneasy I decided to take things real easy, the other staff can handle the bulk of the work while I continue preparing the tickets. A friend of mine came to visit so we chatted a bit during which i fell asleep. When i woke up about 20 minutes later i decided to go and buy fuel by about 3pm but could not as a colleague called in sick. Now this was very upsetting cause as the team leader i had to stand in for him by default. No need to cry over spilled milk, i'll just do my job. Quite a number of clients turned up today and the rate of disruption from the equipment is reducing with every passing day. Public electricity has been restored by about 4pm and we have switched into it by about 5pm. Indeed the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and brighter.

There was a storm in the University of Port Harcourt on Saturday night which caused some trees to fall on the public electricity power lines thereby disrupting both private and public supply of electricity. A section of the wall surrounding the Choba campus which is not up to a year fell in the course of the downpour
Yesterday was Palm Sunday and there was a lot of street procession by our Christian brethren across the land. A friend of mine called it the beginning of the Holy week; whatever that means I do not know. Religion has really made the average Nigerian lazy and more corrupt. There was this procession by the roman catholic outfit which was very long and divided into 4 groups - young girls/women, older ladies, older men and the young boys/men guided by the priests and their men servants. Each group singing at the top of their voices 4 different songs and disturbing the peace. I wonder where in the bible we are commanded to carry on such traditions.
In any case, today is a public holiday; i hear the Muslims are celebrating something. The economy has again been grounded. Thank goodness that our university environment is still shielded from the mainstream society so some academic activities are currently taking place even though there is no electricity and the water supply has been cut off since the storm. Friday this week will be yet another public holiday together with Monday next week to commemorate the death and resurrection of the Man from Galilee; but again i ask - why Monday? the Lord Jesus Christ rose on the third day which is Sunday so why are we now adding Monday?

Today has not even started yet its promises to be eventful. I can't help but notice that the un-enlightened Nigerian out of frustration is now resorting to violence. It began last night, a man and a woman had a vocal disagreement and before you know it a slap or was it a punch to the face and a woman in her mid thirties is rushed to the nearby chemist with blood in her mouth. She lost a tooth in the episode and will have to do without it for the remaining part of her life. The worse part was that a lot of people gathered around the scene just to stare at the man like zombies.
On my way to work this morning i came upon a traffic hold up at UNIPORT junction on the infamous east - west road and there was this car with 5 hefty looking men that refused to follow the line but rather drove straight up to block me. Out of nowhere heard we a siren and before you could say Jack Robinson, one mobile policeman with a gun and 2 SSS men came and told the the men to go back that the commissioner of police wanted to pass. The 5 hefty men just came out of the car and disfigured the 2 unarmed SSS men leaving everyone including the armed mobile policeman in a state of "frozen shock" they rendered the men naked and useless after beating them into an unknown state. I had to say a prayer for Nigeria as I drove off as fast as I could possibly go. If you don't have power - physical or spiritual in Nigeria then better not say anything especially to people that you do not know from Adam.
Those guys are probably part of them ijaw youths and once they enter their remote villages there is really nothing anyone can do. If Charles Taylor was thinking normally, he should have fled into the riverine parts of Nigeria into the creeks and that will have been it.

No light, No water in the house and in the cyber cafe its the same thing. The banking hall is impossible because a lot of clients want to withdraw money in anticipation of the coming easter break. For 4 days beginning on thursday midnight the Nigerian economy will be grounded; what a shame. Back to the cyber cafe, the automatic voltage regulator of the 35KVA generator has packed up so we are using the 10KVA combo backup generators. This country is indeed a land of unusual things. I have an examination tomorrow so i don't intend to spend a lot of time at the office today.

It has been a long day infact 2. My final examination for last semester - Oil and Gas Accounting was fixed for 10am today and guess what? we began by about 3.30pm. The lecturer would not have minded rescheduling the it to next week but the students did not want their easter holiday spoilt. Having been in school since morning; everyone was tired and just wanted it done with.
Water has been restored in the university and they are about finishing the repairs on the power lines. Its so hot these days and the non - availability of electricity makes it quite bad. The noise from the generator simply drives you to the edge. I expect a change for the better and am sure its not many days away.

Why can't people take NO for an answer?
I came to the cyber cafe and the client support staff were not around. The manager my boss stopped by on his way to church (Its good friday) and told me that the engineers were coming to repair the primary diesel generator which has a problem. Infact the secondary diesel generator also developed a fault yesterday so we are left with the petrol generator which can only carry half of our installed capacity.
It does appear there will be no work today then this dude walks in that he wants to check his mail. I sweetly tell him that the client support staff are not around so he should come back or better still check another place. He now starts to say that I should help him, that he is travelling to see Oyakhilome in the good friday miracle night. I gently and slowly repeat myself that there is nothing I could do. He now feigns deafness. By now I am getting agitated. After a while he leaves following which I shut the entry doors and put on the airconditioner.
All this public holidays are really a terrible hindrance. In any case the boss might have used his discretion to give the staff some holiday seeing that even the clients are also not readily available.

Its been 6 weeks since The Cyber Cafe went off. No thanks to a technical problem at the service providers. Right now its cold in most parts of Port Harcourt and a lot of people are falling ill. Today is the Matriculation ceremony in the University of Port Harcourt. There is a hold up on the east - west road intersection; infact its even on the choba road so a lot of people are walking. Photographers are making brisk business. Thankfully the sun is laughing happily. I have been invited to a couple of "matric" parties in the evening. The Cyber Cafe is still not open to the public because of the slowness of the link. The Service Providers keep giving us hope but it appears we might have to leave em by next week. Imagine 7 weeks of no business and there is nothing anyone can do in terms of legal redress. A 1000 apologies to all my fans.

The weather has been very wet starting from yesterday evening. Today is looking dull. I went to the bank to pick up the ATM form but it was finished. A friend of mine came to meet me, she said that her Pastor's Birthday was coming up soon and they had asked them in their church to attack his bank account. I asked her for the number so that I could try my luck to which she responded that they were not given. I then inquired as to what they were given; to which she replied shoe size, shirt size, suit size. I told her that I will pray over it that we have to "find something" for the "Man of God" and then she left. Na wa o, which levels?

We are have just entered the 7th week of no work; right now I don't know who is telling the truth. Our service providers have almost succeeded in ruining our office. Its democracy day and the sun is shinning. The University campus is in a quiet mood and I am in a mischievious state. I have a feeling something will happen this week.

I want to apologize again for the break in transmission; its a sign of the challenging times. Am in the cyber cafe and the browsing speed is oscillating though tending to be very slow. Its amazing the way the African sun heats up during rainy season. The days have definitely been longer than the nights in the current week. Our service providers have informed us that there has been a bandwidth expansion but am yet to see any improvement.
Feeling hungry I decided to go eat and for N150, I got garri and native soup with fresh fish and lots of peri winkles. Had to reach the electronic villa in Port Harcourt called Iloabuchi in the Diobu area and it was a nightmare. Bad roads and go slow made me develop a headache and even when I returned to the University Junction by about 7.30pm there was still a terrible hold up. Thank God for the second entrance which was way behind the traffic jam; it gave me a way of escape and straight home go I and after a hot plate of rice and stew its good night from me.

Last night was something else, it was like in the days of Noe. There was lightning and rolling thunder with a very heavy downpour that sleep was temporally suspended. I am very surprised that there was not much material damage around the university. I went to the cyber cafe and our new service providers were off. Oh yes, we finally made a choice to get a stable service providers which we tested yesterday and the speed was rather unimpressive but there was no break in transmission. Bad news though, the lightning wrecked some collateral damage at the our service providers site so i have to revert back to the old crew which appears to be faster but still goes off during electricity outages. The sun was trying to show face but its back to the dull weather. Funnily enough there is no cafe staff in sight, perhaps they will come on Monday.

The weekend was just there with so much sunshine and no electricity. Not much has changed in the cyber cafe and its really beginning to get under my skin. Decided to check out some friends but their gist was not interesting so I went home. Sunday was equally uninteresting; did not go to church and did not even as leave the house. Some of my friends came around and we did have some fun on the playstation 2 and then public electricity was restored by about 9pm in the evening. The freshers are starting their examinations tomorrow so there is some resemblance of studious silence in the campus.

Today was very interesting. I went to the cyber cafe to check my mail and the speed was still slow. Logged into my yahoo messenger so I could chat up some associated but it appears they were busy. I decided to go about my itinerary to GRA Phase II which included purchasing a samsung printer amongst others.
Beginning from UniPORT, the rain started pouring and the traffic was light so it did not take me time to get down to Rumokoro where I made my first stop. Most of the stretch of Ikwerre Road starting from FGC junction is being currently resurfaced. It surprises me that this road construction work is being done in the midst of the rainy season. To my surprise there are few cars today on the road. The rain is pouring and the lightening activity is very high.
My real destination is a company called Direct on PC hereafter called DOPC. On getting nearer to my destination, it occurs to me that I might have left the road and am in a river. Hard to believe but many sections of the popular woji road in GRA Phase II has been flooded due to blocked drainage and the company (DOPC) am going to is right in the middle of it. I thought Peugeot 505 had high ground clearance but it was barely enough to swim through.
DOPC has a reputation for maltreating their clients so I was told. On getting to the gate after driving or is it canoing through woji road which is now river woji, the gateman kept me in the river a little longer with his questions. After he left me in when I had introduced my self orally he introduced me to a receptionist who I liked to think was a black witch. She kept me standing for some time as she appeared to be very busy making and receiving calls then posted she me to some guy upstairs who is i call the Innocent demon. The guy did not offer me a chair but said that they had the printer in stock but I will have to come back tomorrow because another devil who issues receipt will not come to work today and nobody else can issue me the same receipt. By now I was in cloud nine wondering aloud how I am going to paddle the car through that river only to come back again the following day. I was then told by another demon in training possibly doing IT that the river is at its least tide and when next I come I should be prepared to roll up my trousers cause the water will have taken over much of the grounds inside the compound. It was in haste made I to leave and the waters indeed were only increasing.
In Nigeria, we do not have options that is the truth. The gsm companies take our money and insult us, same with the banks (infact its even worse). The politicians continue to perform government magic (why else will someone be resurfacing a road in the day time during rainy season?) and the result is that what it takes much more effort to accomplish the same task in our country than anywhere else in the world.

The Cyber Cafe resumed full operations today by 1300hrs no doubt with a poor turnout. It will take some time before our clients get to know that service has been restored after sixty six days. Its the reality of the situation in Nigeria, internet penetration is very low and is worsened by an epileptic and terrible quality of service.
Level 100 undergraduate students of the university of Port Harcourt have just finished their first semester examinations and have proceeded on a 2 week break to the relief of all other students because they are a great multitude.

The office was officially opened today and we are experiencing some routine challenges. I must give kudos to the government electricity body (PHCN) for giving us constant light in the last 3 days. Its been very encouraging, no burning of diesel, the air conditioning, music and best of all a fast browsing experience. I have been getting to meet a lot of people on-line through nairaland using the yahoo messenger.
Turnout is still poor though its getting better. A lot of football fans are already getting disillusioned with the way the African representatives are fooling around with the ball in the ongoing fifa world cup. So they come in to browse away their sorrows. The weather has been quite bright and friendly on the whole indeed the environment within the University of Port Harcourt is just great and its the Lord's doing.

You won’t believe how relieved the University of Port Harcourt community was when the public electricity went off today for about five minutes. Since Sunday evening the light had been so full and very consistent that people started talking; nobody likes a Greek gift anyway. A little rain fell earlier and now the sun is shinning full blast but I’m not bothered because the air conditioning is tight.
We now have 6 functional Cyber Cafe's in the campus with a combined total of 100 computers serviced by 5 different Internet Service Providers (ISP). The University has its own ICT center that has about 200 systems for academic use.
Our ISP is still carrying out its upgrade and maintenance so we are experiencing some interruptions. Yesterday we had about 30 minutes downtime while today it has already accumulated to about 1 hour. It might be next week before things are normalized.

The latter part of yesterday was quite different. From nowhere characteristic of Port Harcourt, there came a heavy downpour and the weather became cool. A colleague of mine who had been very lousy with his timming and reactions got the boot. The work attitude of some Nigerians is pathetic. Our reward system is not helping matters at all; the management has however informed us that things have to change. Lets hope our internet connection remains stable so that our clients can be satisfied.

The weather today was so undecided that i considered sleeping in a little longer but it was not to be. I monitored the world cup update on CNN while enjoying a cup of MILO and 2 slices of toasted bread. A quick shower and I was trekking to the office. Trekking is my hobby and the weather was very cool. The streets of the University of Port Harcourt were largely bereft of people and I suspect its because the freshers are on break.
In the cyber cafe, things are warming up. The clientele is increasing by the day but the internet connection is still quite unstable. Our service providers have assured us that it will be rectified. The sun is shinning loudly and am looking forward to the rest of the day. Fridays are quite interesting and ends with choir rehearsals in the evening.

I left the cyber cafe by 5.30pm and went home. Drank a cup of water and started my journey to church. I was having double mind and really wanted to rest but well "work in your calling" they say. I decided to take the public transport as driving to church always attracts some unwanted attention from strange women. So we got in the bus and the drama started.
PART I We followed the east - west road from Uniport junction and took a bypass to the NTA road at the airport junction, there we met some policemen. The rain had started and the policemen insisted on N20 or we park indefinitely; the driver (an old man) was trying to insist on his rights so they parked us. Once rain beats a policeman in his check point the taxi driver will have to pay twice. It was a passenger that gave the driver one green (N20) to give the police.
PART II Just after the NTA premises we met a very serious traffic jam and then the rain started pouring with a very terrible wind. This was about 6.40pm. There was no movement and the bus was leaking at many points. It was pouring right on my back and into the ass in my jeans. I was soaked together with so many passengers in the bus. The old man had no screen wiper and was struggling to keep the bus on the road in the midst of the downpour. We left the traffic jam after about an hour later and I made it all soaked into church.
PART III I was beginning to believe that I had made a great mistake in coming for the rehearsal because by now the rain was only getting heavier and the lightning was very sporadic. It did not last long – the choir meeting and back into the rain we were. Only this time it was 3 of us going back to Uniport. Soaked to the skin we finally made it to Wimpey junction strolling in the rain. Then took a bus to Rumokuta junction and another bus to Uniport Junction passing through 2 traffic jams. I started another rain strolling from Mr. Biggs Junction at east – west road to my house and could feel the cold in my bones. This must have been the type of night Femi – Anikulapo Kuti referred to when he sang Bang – Bang – Bang. Listening to that still small voice if you hear one can always save you a great deal of distress. I got home by about 10:40pm and drank some hot breverage.

Its about 4pm and the weather has started changing. My shift in the cyber cafe has just ended and on the whole things are improving - the clients are coming back and the link instability is smoothening out but not at its best yet. The Cyber Cafe does not open for business on Sundays as it is generally observed as a holiday here in the University of Port Harcourt. Many of the students who constitute the bulk of our clients go on weekends thereby reducing commercial activities on campus.
It appears the Sun and Rain have reached an agreement in Port Harcourt because its so hot from morning till about 4 pm then the rains start and could drag on to about 4 am in the morning. I am still recovering from the beating the rain gave to me on Friday evening.

The weekend was quite educative. It appears things like happening toward the end of every day. My supervisor informed me that our control system had a virus toward the end of Saturday and it dawned on me that my sunday may well be engaged in tackling this challenge. The weather was again wet on Saturday night and I went home to relax playing the PS2 till about 11.30pm. Working around the situation on sunday was easier than i envisaged - i had to back up my ticket data and reformat the system then import and install that particular option file while updating the newly installed anti virus.
Meeting people on line is one thing, seeing them in person is another. This on line thing should not be taking for granted. I actually took time to watch the second half of Brazil - Australia and then the rains came in their full fury. Public electricity is epileptic today but when in comparison to other parts of Port Harcourt, its quite reliable.

I just realized there are some ill mannered people right here on Nairaland. Its very unfortunate the way some of us use yahoo messenger. Swearing and profanities are not part of our culture so I get pissed off when I come across some "pretenders" who never even reach airport they yan. By the way the only thing "International" in the Port Harcourt International Airport which is the second busiest airport in Nigeria after the one at Lagos is the word "international"
The Cyber Cafe is slowly getting back into its normal self at least the service provider is co - operating and the clients are happy with the services The remedial students (popularly called "basic" students) of the UniPORT are starting their first semester examination today. Public electricity which I will refer to as "NEPA" from now on is also co-operating.

Things are really getting busy in the cyber cafe. There is this worm/virus flying over the place and so i have to reformat quite a number of hard drives that was being protected by AVG antivirus. Its very easy when under some form of pressure to treat clients in a shabby manner but with time and experience you have to stiffen your stomach a bit and speak nicely while smiling even though your inner parts want to cuss.
The sun is shinning hot as usual and i decided to enjoy the very best of it by trekking within the campus, been able to adapt to situations and understand instructions is very vital in the IT world. Due to my tight schedule I have to cancel my choir rehearsals. I find it easier attending to clients below 30 years of age than those above 40 years. There is a rainbow in the sky above the university and it makes me surprisingly very happy; i go to pick up a piece of cake for N50.
