3 Months Ke?
« #320 on: March 01, 2008, 10:45 PM »

I am not very glad in going to Church these days especially on Sundays because everybody goes there in the morning hours. Personally I prefer midweek services as its not fashionble and different churches have different days for midweek services. The other day I saw a banner - "Get Pregnant in 90 Days", indeed specialization is now taking place in the "church". How about "Get Married in 3 months"? Feeling very sleepy, I hear tomorrow is prayer and fasting at church abi am I hallucinating?

Maze of Surprises
« #321 on: March 03, 2008, 11:05 PM »

Two of my friends have been running things secretly for a while now. Only got the tip when I saw the guy's picture all over her phone as in background, screen saver.  Not that I have any covert interest but I wonder how and where it all started. My best friend who is also a mutual friend exclaimed "so is that where He ended?" Went visiting with her to a guy who happens to be married to the cousin of our friend and was taken aback by the appearance of the "wife". Its obvious now that fine boys end up with ugly girls and I don't know if its a sort of ecosystem balancing. Needless to say, I got insight, marriage is indeed a complex situation which requires some divine inspiration.

Bank of Insults and Mediocrity
« #322 on: March 05, 2008, 04:59 PM »

The rain is falling and everything is becoming clearer including some people's character. Actually its my fault; in the name of "Born Again", I have been making excuses for mediocrity. Not any more though there is a function I have just activated called "delete" and it works well with the feminine specie. The presence of money does not make a man rich; mediocrity is also not a function of poverty. Went to Union Bank today at CTL Emporium to deposit some cash and was told my the cashier (not a banker) because that is really what she is to replace two notes that were mutilated. Now I had just withdrawn the same from UBA main branch on Olu Obasanjo. This short engine told me that if I did not replace the notes that I she will return the money to me, no need to make a scene, I complied promptly and left. Now my disdain for bankers, cashiers, security men and all manner of souls that work in the bank is not in doubt. Infact, I make sure I go to the bank, once a month to limit the number of bad days I have and its not like am going for a loan. Insult on top my money. United Bank of Africa plus Union Bank of Nigeria BEWARE.

Moved Out
« #323 on: March 11, 2008, 11:32 AM »

Its not easy but someone must start some where so perhaps in faith (there must be a reason) I moved out from my parents house. It was then I appreciated the meaning of Heaven. From the very first day there has not been any electricity and then by the third day there is no water. About the same time I was reposted to a new unit in my office and I am trying not to get angry because courtesy is non existent is the average Nigerian. Infact ask people about divine health or tithing and they will give you all the details but when it comes to behavioural display forget it. Port Harcourt is in darkness and I don't know what the NEPA people are saying. Was in church the other day and it was the pastor's birthday and she got a plasma screen as one of her gifts; isn't that wonderful? I wonder if Jesus got a plasma up there in heaven.

Gongo Aso
« #324 on: March 13, 2008, 05:38 PM »

Ever since I packed to my house, going to the market around 6pm just before they close shop has been a favorite past time. There was this time I believed that the University daily market was a good ground for razzling babes especially in the meat session but now I am looking at the wholesale sections because I like my babe to be prudent. Today is the end of my two weeks posting to training section and am going to enjoy a party in the neighbourhood - i hate teaching. Am getting ready by warming up with gongo aso by 9ice - bebe lo. I saw another poster - "Marriage is a possibility"; see pattern for some people. Men am just in this weekend mood, feel like shaking my body in the evening cool breeze and just now one ol chick dey ask me if i dey show for church.

Just Like That
« #325 on: March 14, 2008, 09:01 PM »

We were preparing to close for the day by 2pm when we got the sad news that our beloved boss; indeed our best unit head was giving a query and then transferred out of the department. This is a country that truly rewards mediocrity and punishes people who do not over indulge themselves in corruption. Was met on my way home by a very heavy thunderstorm complete with a heavy downpour and still there is no public electricity in the university campus and its neighbouring villages.

« #326 on: March 18, 2008, 02:49 PM »

After some days of darkness followed by scarcity of water and a little disturbance by some aggrieved student the authorities finally called it quits and closed the university down for "easter break" In any case there is a holiday on wednesday for muslims with their christian counterparts taking friday and monday in that order.  Was at home feeling very lonely when the public electricity was restored; actually went out to take some fresh air but noticed the presence of mosquitos which made me go inside. The weather is very nice but I just heard that a girl is crying because her boyfriend told her its over as she got her call up letter.  Its one of those things

Holy Week
« #327 on: March 20, 2008, 02:40 PM »

With the coming of the "Holy Week", Petrol suddenly became scarce. Went to church using public transport, choir rehearsals was nice and actually did not so much miss church or their people and was quite sorry when they said we will come again on wednesday evening for more rehearsals. Got a ride via an old associate who took a drop that got me right to my house. Was at a fuel station early the following morning and watched the queue get rowdy and then back in line. There was a fight between one of the attendants and a bike man; infact all bikes paid commission of N50 while cars paid N100 yet the attendants still resorted to sharp practices of not cleaning the meter when they sell thereby over charging some unsuspecting motorists. Happy Easter

Quite Long
« #328 on: March 24, 2008, 01:03 PM »

This holiday has been something, church service was quite emotional with so much shouting. A lot of people are in need of miracles; they think its like magic or something. The weather has been quite cool with the sun not too hot though the absence of public electricity makes it a bit tedious. Back to the church; I have decided to "move the hands of God" , so here is my list a new job with one of the oil multinationals that guarantees my being based in Port Harcourt. The salary should be 6x what am earning now and then I should get married to my sweetheart (who is currently non existent) and all these within 12 calendar months. Now am expected by the formula to speak the word, act in faith, make Godly vows and praise God. I wish doing only one of the four will be able to achieve the expected end but well lets just forget about it. Jesus is everything, what is all this "gathering of spoils"? Catch me if you can like the ginger bread man; you better have your cat in hand because men

Mediocrity
« #329 on: March 27, 2008, 10:47 AM »

Am tired of grumbling and murmuring so am going to be entering a zombie mode soon only this time I will not be taking instructions from anybody. Woke up this morning and surprisingly there was NEPA. My neighbours took out time to warm their music sets; with one blasting some hymns and the other 2Face. As I told my colleague in the office that its not by playing christian music that makes you a christian. As for the office that one is another kettle of fish. Everything upside down, the cleaners comes to work by 9.30am and starts sweeping  dust into your nose; since its now a crime to come to work by 8am. They want you to work magic for money that they have embezzled. Petrol is really scarce in Port Harcourt; have to restrict my driving around to only essential destinations.

« #330 on: March 31, 2008, 12:41 PM »

The weekend was going to be quite interesting; one of my little girls confided in me just a little and was quite unhappy. Why should a lecturer, married, single or divorced resort to harassing "small gals"? Funny part is when i used to call her, its either she is in one church program, lecture hall or at home cooking so I don't understand this "talk" of hers. In any case some of "these gals" really disturb men with their vital statistics. Anyway have to get over this rubbish lest it spoil my weekend. The presence of a heavy rain prevented me from going to town for choir rehearsals, spent most of the weekend browsing through TV stations but the most interesting part was listening to P Squares - Ifunanya, Nigerians musicians have come of age, the production was good.

« #331 on: April 03, 2008, 04:39 PM »

I have been entertaining family and neighbours at my new apartment. Its not the best of estates in the university but the people therein are quite diverse. My best friend came in from Warri and we spent most of the night gaming and gisting bout girls; eventually went to sleep by 3.30 in the morning, at least there is NEPA.  Office is quite boring and the cyber cafe is having bandwidth issues; the ISP pegged the bandwidth and since there the speed has been tending towards slow. Infact the ISP has been quite epileptic in its quality of service delivery and the cafe management is not finding it funny though they are focusing now in replacing the generator. Mo love Jesu gon

Health - Important Tips
« #332 on: April 07, 2008, 01:06 PM »

Answer the phone by LEFT ear. Do not drink coffee TWICE a day. Do not take pills with COOL water. Do not have HUGE meals after 5pm. Reduce the amount of OILY food you consume. Drink more WATER in the morning, less at night. Keep your distance from hand phone CHARGERS. Do not use headphones/earphone for LONG period of time. Best sleeping time is from 10pm at night to 6am in the morning. Do not lie down immediately after taking medicine before sleeping. When battery is down to the LAST grid/bar, do not answer the phone as the radiation is 1000 times.

STOCK MARKET
« #333 on: April 08, 2008, 03:09 PM »

Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for =N=10. The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at =N=10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at =N=20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer rate increased to =N=25 and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at =N=50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at =N=35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell it to him for =N=50." The villagers squeezed up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!!!

« #334 on: April 11, 2008, 02:54 PM »

Was talking with a friend the other day and she did not see anything wrong with doing her laundry maunally in the kitchen; i think that's weird. In my parents house we did not spit or brush in the kitchen sink. Tried to think of more gross things like brushing outside the house, in the toilet. Been visiting with a lot of friendly neighbours in the estate and getting acquainted; such a lovely bunch with their different dispositions.

« #335 on: April 12, 2008, 05:51 PM »

Its one of those busy weekends and am not very happy. A lot of people took up my whole time starting with my official no 1 - Omo T, was surprised she actually came to see me at home.  Well that was friday evening and it turned out to be an open day kind of thing. Am thinking of turning my house to a monastry soon but my lovly neighbours will always want to charge their phones when there is no light. Funny part is that they are always playing music. Our ISP has been at its worst.

Sweet Sunday
« #336 on: April 14, 2008, 03:27 PM »

Had the normal sunday lunch in my parents house, though it was fried meat and not chicken. The jollof rice was as peppery as ever but i also took cold bowl of corn flakes. Picked up my friend and went home, only to receive a phone call that some of the "boys" wanted to watch MANCHESTER vs ARSENAL. I had to leave the house for 9 Men of which only 1 was a MANCHESTER fan. Spent the later part of the evening visiting some of my lovely neighbours; even playing LUDO with 3 of them. Shun o, religion is really the occupation of most nigerians yet their daily lives show a different thing. Am looking forward to the coming week, though petrol is still >N90 but am going to enjoy myself as much as possible.

Smallie is a Friend
« #337 on: April 17, 2008, 02:41 PM »

Woke up a little ill but had this burden to conclude some transaction in GRA so I called "smallie" if she could accompany me. The campus was in a mess due to the fire brigade approach to convocation ceremony and lectures were cancelled so she was game. We joined a fuel queue at OANDO station in Mgbuoba and i filled the tank up at =N70= which was a miracle. Took us about 30 minutes and we were on the way to GRA, concluded business at CTL then moved on to Royal Residence to pick up some pizza (take away).  Decided to window shop at Next Supermarket on Abacha road and then to the nearest eattery since we were hungry. I was beginning to feel very sick now but then kept on thanks to the car a/c. Speaking of the car its been a while since i washed it no thanks to my very dirty road. On the way home "smallie" said she would wash the car to which I replied that we could stop at a car wash but she insisted that we got straight home to my place and the rest is now history.  She actually is a very good car wash, the neighbours in the estate thought me a very lazy person but what i could not stop her from doing what she knows well. In any case she reminded him that I'd be good to her but I really felt bad and then happy because "smallie" has just become a friend.

Power outtage in the University campus
« #338 on: April 24, 2008, 03:32 PM »

Since saturday when vice president Goodluck finished commissioning projects in the university and left there has been no public electricity. The school authorities initially tried to power the 3 campuses on sunday but by monday it appeared the diesel had finished so there was no light anywhere. By Tuesday they had got diesel from somewhere to power only 1 campus which houses the administrative complex leaving the main permanent site in total darkness. The students in the hostel resorted to fetching water from the nearby university teaching hospital.  My office is in the permanent site; we just go sign in and then start gisting; what a waste? We are supposed to be preparing the matriculation list via the internet but that one now will have to wait. Finally on thursday morning, the students in the permanent site went on a mini demonstration only to be "contained" by the university sponsored "man - o - war" group.

Smelly Friday
« #339 on: April 25, 2008, 03:52 PM »

There has been no light for 6 solid days and the effects is now very clear. My office is opposite the residential hostels and we could perceive the stench though faintly. Those who came in by the bus stop had a good dose of the medicine. Those NEPA guys have always wanted a bribe from the university authorities "as usual" but it appears this one thinks otherwise. The only problem being that He does not have a grip of diesel supply and the generators cannot run on air.  Reluctantly went to work "to gist" because there is no electricity and really there is nothing we can do as the job requires electricity and an internet access.

MAY DAY
« #340 on: May 03, 2008, 01:00 PM »

Decided to be a good boy and attend the requiem mass of my doctors dad on workers day. Some of my sisters also were going so it was quite hard to decide to change my mind as I will be driving them to St. Mary's down town. The weather has been very hot of late so using the a/c was not debatable. Went to shave at the barbers and then my fans all started calling, being a public holiday it was normal to expect them visitors. One of them wanted to come and watch a movie and this annoyed me because she should know better, infact she even flashed and i then called back. Its amazing what this girls do when you don't put your foot down. In any case i felt very "HOLY" coming out the church, no thanks to the amount of incense and candles they burnt. Actually got home with a headache and mild "wheezing" due to the fumes; in any case nothing will make me enter such a place again. My best friend came in the evening with some cakes which we consumed amidst plenty "girl" gist with some cold malt.

Fiery Friday
« #341 on: May 05, 2008, 04:18 PM »

Decided against all odds to be at choir rehearsals this friday so i left the office by 3pm and took a nap in other to have more strength. But for the knocking on the door of a neighbour I might have woken up the following day. Can't remember what or why she came but I do know that my immediate opposite neighbour remarked that I looked sick. In any case the news was everywhere - there was some shooting at the University junction. Some mobile police had come and demolished some make shift stalls around the junction and were just about leaving when the normal friday burial people started passing brandishing their swords. The mobile police suspecting them to be aggrieved villagers started teargassing the entire area and then pandemonium broke out with people running helter skelter. In any case road blocks were set up and people required to raise their hands up in surrender when passing. Bike men too came down from their bikes and trek across the road block. Welcome to Port Harcourt

Staff Audit
« #342 on: May 08, 2008, 03:21 PM »

To eradicate "Ghost Workers" my employers are doing a staff audit which requires the issuance of cheques. The rain was very heavy and there was no electricity; thank God I repaired my leaking car sun roof yesterday. Got to work and it was just boring, decided to go to my parents house to change into some warm clothing and also follow up with a hot cup of milo. Got an sms that the audit team will be around by 2pm so i decided to get back to the office sooner. The electricity has been restored and a queue is formed to engage in the process and then to my surprise - the animal in man came out. See as some so called big people started jumping queue. One woman came to tell me that she has church meeting by 3pm so i should give her chance - "had to say a quick hail mary" then my department boss said our unit director asked him to attend a meeting by 3pm so i should give him chance, had to bite my lip and then another "big Man" did same and i was now besides myself. Then one cleaner came to try her chance - one look at my face and she had to behave her self. See as devil one take spoil my weekend eh, on sunday all this people will be in church.

Scene 1
« #343 on: May 11, 2008, 10:44 AM »

Had this mixed underlying feeling about this weekend but decided to keep an open mind especially with regards to church. Had to go drop a cheque at my bank in Garrison, the ride was smooth. Resisted the urge to divert and came back within 2 hours back to my work desk, though there was not much doing as everyone was going about trying to cash the cheques. Got to my parents house by 3pm to a sumptuous breakfast of boiled yam and egg stew; actually over ate and started feeling so bad because I knew I'd fall ill. My mom did come back by 5pm from work and she was so tired, i was trying to chat her out of it when a call came through from "smallie". Had to get back to my crib but was not too pleased as i was chatting online with 2 VIPs and also I'd now surely miss church.

Flooded by the Plumber
« #344 on: May 14, 2008, 12:33 PM »

Ever since I moved into my 2 bed room apartment; one of the rooms has not been in use. There is a problem in my neighbors bath tub that ensures that one of the walls in the unused smaller room is wet. The hand sink also needed changing which the caretaker promised to do all but its been 3 months now. The compound has been some how with some "grand standing" so I decided to get away back to my parents house; incidentally the house was going to be empty that saturday then the caretaker and plumber came knocking. There was no water, there has not been any electricity either so I wonder why he came at all, He came in and then opened the tap of the hand sink and said he will replace it next week then left. I too went about my enjoyment and returned back about 9pm to sit and gist with a neighbor till about 11pm only for me to open my door and get into my parlor then i realized i was "walking on water". Had to switch off the taps and start wondering. For sure there won't be any church for me tomorrow.

Office Politics
« #345 on: May 17, 2008, 11:29 AM »

There are many, many,  in my office. Now i usually don't do this but then enough is enough. Director said we should not "make money in the office" yet so many continue and leave the main work undone. Now I decided not to for personal reasons and will not condemn those who do but when the fire starts on the mountain they will expect me to put in extra effort, HELL NO. Am tired of being a "good boy". Can you imagine that the director called me friday by 6pm to come back to the office i left since 4.30pm for work that closes by 4pm saying those of us that leave nearby should come. I decided to go and help my unit head because really the problem lies with him and then they now said I should come Saturday for government work, He must be silly and trust me when i got home - off went my MTN line which they have to be switched on sometime next week. They want me to do all the work those married women refuse to do. No way

Quiet Weekend
« #346 on: May 18, 2008, 06:18 AM »

Examinations in the university start next week and everyone is trying to form serious student. Some are reading all night and as usual it appears the NEPA guys have switched off the campus. Churches on campus will have maximum student attendance today, even those who are going to "cheat" and "sort" need some form of divine blessing. The plumber was here again this weekend to change the hand sink only this time my house does not have water while others have. This JAMB people ensured that we stayed indoors and looking at what the minister was saying it appears the POST UME might soon be extinct but well this is Nigeria.

MATRICULATION
« #347 on: May 20, 2008, 12:03 PM »

Its like am a natural critique, do you know if there is such an occupation or profession then I'd probably make a lot of money. Woke up today with mixed feelings; already been invited to a matriculation party and i know i'd attend like 3. Why the university choose to have the year 1 welcome party on a tuesday morning when other students are supposed to be writing their semester examinations beats my mind hollow. Had to drop some of my "sixtas" at their examination halls as it will have been a little tasking getting there. Nigerians like to party; the whole place was swarming with people. Christian fellowships rented canopy on the other side of the arena; each one trying to out do the other. Everywhere is just a din, the man o war boys blowing one hungry siren all over the place. The office car park has been temporally turned into a place for photo taking.

Bloody Matriculation
« #348 on: May 21, 2008, 12:24 PM »

It was very obvious that the timing of the matriculation within the semester examinations was wrong notwithstanding that it was a weekday. Left the office and had to take many detours to get to my parents house which is within the same campus. Finally got home from one of them matric parties and not up to an hour i heard people shouting across the wall of my compound. Since am upstairs, i went to peep and saw about 9 boys, 2 of them carrying long riffles I presume to be "AK47". They had one boy at their mercy and proceeded to rob all passers by, taking one guys laptop in the process. Then they opened fire; the sound was like multiple lightning - one then said "no shaking, na vicky get uniport" and then from other areas came the sound of more shooting. This was about 6.15 in the evening, all the estates around proceeded to lock their gates. Phone calls revealed that they 2 students were shot dead at the Block A of Nelson Mandela Hostel right in the heart of the university. My sister; a doctor at the teaching hospital said they brought some bodies to the casualty, 8 dead, 1 shot in the abdomen, some without hands etc. My colleague said he ran into a cult mob armed to the teeth right in front of the administrative campus ans that he had to run very fast back into his office. All this happened between 6pm and 8pm and the school security plus the infamous man o war where no were to be seen though some 6 police patrol vehicles were spotted about 9pm within the 3 campuses.

Global Warming
« #349 on: May 22, 2008, 11:05 AM »

Its been some time since we experienced the normal wet season never ending rain; instead its a constant scorching sun so much so all the puddles on the road have dried up. Public electricity supply has been at its all time worst though we are enjoying in the office as we have now been temporally put on the priority list. My compound has been quite exciting though i was giving some rude shock from one of my "darlings", considering the fact the amount of quality time we spent. Now her sisters she insist its all a joke but am currently revising my "new friends list" with effect from february 1. The evening was spent quietly in deep thought, eventually went to chill in one of their houses and had a jolly good time. The moon is high up in the sky as I eventually retire to bed.

Benefits of NEPA
« #350 on: May 26, 2008, 03:11 PM »

I got home from church today and to my surprise there was light and everyone was indoors watching a movie. Found my bathroom in a mess as water was leaking from some where; the plumbing in the compound is quite substandard. Finally discovered the point of leaking and did some adjustment. Its like there are so many things to discover in the house. My shoes have developed so much mold, i just discovered 2 pairs in a drawer which i brought out cleaned and then took out to sun. Was about to start watching a movie then NEPA struck and so I decided to just relax and gist with my estate number 1. Thank God i stopped over from church at my parents house to have lunch, even at that am still feeling peckish so i consume some biscuits. She very soon leaves to get shawama at the administrative campus at which i go out to socialize.

Change
« #351 on: May 27, 2008, 11:36 AM »

Change; the only permanent thing in life. My two weeks suspension from the choir for absenteeism has set off a beautiful time of soul searching. The road from Uniport to Rumokwuta is meant to be dualized and as such a lot of demolition is going on giving me room for thought. Whats in vogue now is robbing of houses on Sunday when the unsuspecting go to church. My office has had some share of the fun too, a lot of politics going on with its twin cousin of corruption; am trying so hard to get out of the way of the participants. Wish they let me be as i no wan chop make them no disturb me.
