The most important thing is to define what is a sex abuse. It is very important to report such act and must be reported as at when it happened, our ladies must live up to fighting this act otherwise some men will always get away with this evil.

My dear there are punishments for those found wanting in this act. Though it may not be heavy but the point is that ladies must report when ever the are abused, as the more we discuss this issue the more the right measure of punishment will be advocated for. Shocked

When a child is abused, the best thing to do in Nigeria if you have been sexually abused is to tell an older person you trust, and then you can go to the police station. A good one that is.

Actually, In Nigeria, there really isnt much a child that's been sexually abused can do. because I'm sure that the Rapist would threaten the child not to tell anybody or s/he dies. Plus,  most parent would say it's the child's fault, or to make it worse,  they say the child is lying or say something like the devil is working on you.

I still think telling some you trust and consolling the child is the best u can do. Police r improving as i heard, but there r still some that'll just be looking at you like dundi when u tell them u were abused. Or they tell u, why didn't u come here immediately, or say something like,  The man has gone now, next time don't wear Mini-skirt.   Huh

It's really important for the child to tell someone they trust.
Trying to forget it ever happened can be so destroying to the victim, because it's never really forgotten, it always rears it's ugly head whenever and without reason. Holding it inside as a secret only allows it to fester and grow. Cry

The child certainly has to report to his parents or any reliable adult otherwise the abuse might go on.There should certainly be a law against it but its unfortunate that most people in Nigeria don't know their rights or the law.Besides the judicial system like many other systems or institution in the country is warped. So the abuser may buy his freedom. However, the first step basically is to tell someone immediately after.

Most threats are just that, threats. It is one way the offender has of asserting their power over their victim.
Not sure if I agree with your thoughts about it being the Mother's fault. . . I don't blame my Mum.
