Windows Xp Service Pack 3
« on: November 30, 2007, 09:46 AM »

hey y'all, i know i posted stuff like this before, but this isnt a repost,  just a better option
in the other post i gave 4 links from two different file servers where u can download WinXP SP#, well here's a better option, just one link, the file was uploaded on sharedzilla file server,  this is a better option because its just one link, and u have the option of pausing if u're using a download manager (ofcourse u should be using a download manager). I'm presently running on the new service pack and its okay,  official statement says u get 10% increase in speed from SP2, i get more than that because of tweaks i alwasy do on my registry.

here are screenshots from my pc showing the new service pack details:

Before installation

Successful installation

My system info after installation

Size of file is 332Mb

mehn that is cool ,  can u comfirm if it would work with a windows xp,  that was cracked,  the windows xp i have is original and i don't have problem installing windows validating programs like windows media player 11 and the likes,  but it came with another system so i had to crack it so that it wont show that annoying 3 months activation warning,  don't know do u think its safe to install the SP3

he-he Grin
I am on 57% of the download for Windows XP service pack 3 standalone installer which means the update will not be required, just install Windows XP Service Pack 2 and execute the downloaded file Wink
Bigbrovar, I will mail one to your house when I'm done! Cheesy

If you've got a very good connection.

Man if u have a genuine OS, then that's even easier,  just go to their site (microsoft.com) and get the update from there.
i don't know exactly where it is on that site, but i know its there as an update,

i havnt seen any releases as to problems with installation, but i think its safe,
Cheers Wink

when you click that link, this is a screenshot of what comes up

Click the Button "Download File"

and this comes up,

i use internet download manager, that's why that second image comes up like that, if u don't use a download manager it would come up like this if u're on internet explorer,

u should know wht to do from here,  its like every other normal download

but i strongly recommend u use a download manager, so u can pause and start at any other time if u can't get the whole file at once.
Cheers Wink

grr. .   I use opera, must be why i couldn't download it

i've looked up the SP3 on the net - it seems that its a leaked pre beta/beta version thats availble. i haven't been able 2
find a link on MS. there was a prerelease pack on the hotfix.net, but it seems MS ordered them to remove the link. . .

That's right Oyb.

Heard its a leaked version too . . . because, Microsoft does not have a link to download the upgrade.
After some help from wikipedia, I got some news! and it's a confirmed leaked version!
I have the standalone installer on my machine now, but I want to read more news before I install.
who knows if the Naughty Boys that got it have added malicious codes and I'm here filling funky in Windows XP service pack 3 not knowing my system is in the hands of some creep! Nice 1 oyb, lets wait a while.

I virtualized it tho. I did a clean install of Windows XP Professional (English, 32bit, Volume License) with Service Pack 2 integrated in a Virtual Machine. After that I installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 Beta build 3180. The SP3 executable pack is named windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe. So there we have the reserved KB article number. The size of the pack is 332 MB.

When installing is replaces and backs up 2,848 files (456 MB) to C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$

As before it also archives the SP3 itself in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
2,921 Files (552 MB)

Lucky harddisk space is not an issue these days,

After installing I noticed nothing new visually yet in the Bootscreen or UI. All I noticed was that Remote Desktop Client was updated to 6.1 and that IE6 said SP3 in aboput screen.

Of course a lot of bugfixes since SP2, I mean 2848 files are renewed, I have no wireless in the VM but I assume WPA2 support is now included and High Def Audio devices are detected without need of a hotfix.

Alright man! That'll be great!
Why don't u virtualize and just check for registry and file changes insted of having to format & re-establish Windows XP on the whole machine. Thats quite stressful!

@Inze:

What is the use of downloading the whole OS when we know our local retailers will have them soon Grin
All you'll have to do is buy one for N300 and make an .iso out of the CD and store on your PC Cheesy

And Good Luck downloading your upgrade that has not been officially released by Microsoft.

Mind you its been released

Its been released and wikipedia has not announced it officially.
Google does not have it listed on the news section.

And even Microsoft Corporation does not have a link to download it, or read about it except that; we should expect Windows XP Service Pack 3 around 2008.

I like your definition of "official release" Undecided
Meanwhile, Please provide one sensible link stating it's official release.

@Inze:

Windows XP upgrade delayed
Author: Antony SavvasPosted: 11:55 20 Oct 2006
Microsoft has pushed back the introduction of Windows XP Service Pack 3 to the first half of 2008.

The next big upgrade to Windows XP had been expected in the second half of next year, but delays in the introduction of Windows Vista are believed to have had an impact on the Windows XP upgrade.

The last big upgrade to Windows XP, which majored on significant security upgrades, was Service Pack 2 which was first introduced over two years ago, in August 2004.

As Microsoft normally staggers the introduction of major updates via its automatic updating services, many XP users may not see their OS updated until the second half of 2008, unless they manually load it themselves.

Windows Vista is expected to be introduced to large businesses next month, with a general launch expected in January next year.

Here is an excerpt from a PC Mag

"Microsoft denies XP SP3 set for 2007
Windows upgrade announcement a 'mistake'

Gregg Keizer, Computerworld

Windows XP users will have to wait until next year for Service Pack 3 after all, Microsoft said yesterday as it claimed a recent press release saying otherwise was "a mistake".

Windows XP SP3, the next major roll-up of security patches and bug fixes for the still-popular operating system, was mentioned twice in a Microsoft statement posted from InterOp on Monday. The release, which touted interoperable protocol efforts between Juniper Networks and Microsoft, said at one point that "Windows Vista supports this protocol today and Windows Server 2008 and Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) will support it as well later this year."

Several bloggers and some news outlets took this to mean that Microsoft had changed the launch date for SP3 from its official timetable of the first half of 2008."

-----end-----
Microsoft gave out their service pack 3 to many beta testers, so the ones out now are just beta releases.

Yes! That's true . . .
Microsoft has given out Windows XP Service Pack 3 to some BETA Testers.
Although, I have a small script written that you will have to execute and That deceives microsoft making them think you are one of the BETA testers. So u can find Service Pack 3 in ur update list.
I will upload the file later b'because I'm using Linux for now.

just finished downloading(via deposit files)

i found something v disturbing - all downloaded MS files are typically self extracting cabinets( this one is) .if you click their properties, you always find references to MS  under the version tab. this package has no version tabits looking more unsafe every minute. . .

hehe, well if stuff don't look safe, its best not to use, although i'm on it presently,  but as has been made clear here , this stuff is BETA,  we await the real stuff next year.
