I got tired of the name my parents gave me so I gave myself "God's Love". I've heard of someone called that.

I don't have one. I have a Muslim name and a Yoruba name. I use my Muslim name, but it doesn't sound muslim at all. Besides, my Yoruba name sounds like a girls name.  Embarrassed

Don't have one.

It makes me happy that my names are African.

However many parents give their children English names to use in school and they believe that it will help them to get a job later on in life.

mine is sharon but i don't like it. when i was younger, i used to ask my parents why they didn't use my english name for school because people couldn't prenounce adanma. but when i got older i started to appreciate my name because it makes me who i am and gives me pride in my culture.

I was actually given a  non nigerian name at birth/baptism. The name is not english. It is rather a name common among people of the East of europe.
I stopped  using my  non-african name because I felt that it does not make any sense. I don't know any Non-African that has an African name.
The use of the so called english names is a left over of the colonial era. We have to do away with them. I have two kids and  I gave them only local names
