Check the top countries in Africa Cameroun Cote D'Ivore how many of their players play in div 2? Even Mali have better players playing in top clubs compared to Nigeria.
Mikel is the only Naija player playing in a top club while Mali has Kanoute-Sevilla, Seydou Keita- Sevilla, Diarra- Real Madrid, Sissoko- Liverpool

Why do you guys post nasty comments? Are you justifying the inclusion of div 1 and 2 players?Berra hold you peace before I pour my venom on you. Nigeria will wobble, stumble and fumble. When we have an array of stars all over the world.Vogts, for reasons best known to his apari head, decided to look for div 1 players. If we don't retain our feat at the last nations cup ,I will blame no one but me(for being a die hard Nigeria supporter)
are u ok? nyways, guess u would expect Julius Aghahowa to be included as well bcs he plays for Wigan Al we need to is to build a team the personalities of players does not play a part in this. exactly my point, it is all about building a team at the end of the day not which division they play besides, Quaresma plays for Porto which isn't d best league around dsnt mean he is not good enough does it? Ogbuike plays for second divsn side in Germany, but we all knw his quality. . . . . . . . opportunity i think it is called.

We really have a serious problem based on the selection. There is nid that we reanalyse the approach,. its not quite strong enough. We sha hope to do well this time around, since we've now being rated no 1 in Afica and 18th best in the world.

Asides a 45 minutes kanu, Utaka,Uche.I can't vouch for any other Nigerian player on that list.I wonder why the craze of grabbing UK based stars, irrespective of the division they play in.
70% of the players are based in England. What the hell
Danny Shittu (Watford/ENG) ,Seyi Olofinjana (Wolves/ENG), Dickson Etuhu (Sunderland/ENG), John Mikel Obi (Chelsea/ENG), Nwankwo Kanu, John Utaka (Portsmouth/ENG), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Everton/ENG), Obafemi Martins (Newcastle/ENG)
AYODELE STEPHEN MAKINWA scored 3 goals in 25 appearances.Note- MAKINWA IS ON THE INJUSRY LIST AND HASN’T FEATURED IN A NUMBER OF GAMES. BERTI VOGTS FELT HE WAS BETTER THAN ANY OTHER NIGERIAN PLAYER,HE LEFT OUT

We should only be concerned about the form of the players and not necessarily the division they play in. Egypt won the 2006 Nations cup with more than 60% home based players-Ahly National. How many foreign based professional won the cup for Tunisia in 2004. It's all about team work, character, determination, hunger and luck. Nigeria stands a chance just like Ghana, Cote d'ivoire and others to win the cup in Ghana. Watch the tapes of Nigeria Vs Cote d'ivoire in 2006 and you will discover that but for the second half defensive blunder, the Ivorians would never have scored against Nigeria. All we need is tactical efficacy to triumph.

I don't know why we rely heavily on european based players? na them sabi pass? All we need is a very good team and definitely not in the division they play in, what are the likes of olofijana, shittu dey do for national team? there are far better players even in the Nigerian local league.
vogts himself is a big minus to the team ( because he believes in ready made) he is yet to uncover a new and young talent, except miracles happens and the guys are up for it, omo, we ma fumble big time,

I beleive those glorious Enyinmba boys 2 years ago are better than some pro players like Etuhu, Shitu, Olofinjana,
Those North African teams are better than some European side paticularly those div 2 players. Amuneke as at 1994 was playing in Zamalek. Ahly players are better than a lot of foreign based players. See how Ahly performs in Intercontinental competitions Take Watford, Sunderland or Wolves there and you would see Blood.

hollandis why don't you list the outstanding players that were left out especially those in the local league since some of us have never seen them play and the asst coach that has couldn't recommend them I beleive those glorious Enyinmba boys 2 years ago are better than some pro players like Etuhu, Shitu, Olofinjana,

@this guy Whatever happened to workaholic odiah and the ever reliable Ayila.I'm not encouraging local league players .All I am saying is .Are the entire stars on parade a microcosm, of the array of abundant Nigerian stars scattered abroad. Is it a true reflection of the abundant Nigerian footballers around the world? Can Makinwa boast of half the number of games for Lazio? How many goals have been recorded to his credit? Who the hell is Olofijana? Please lets not talk about this further. Just hope Nigeria survives on Monday.

I would rather Chrisantus than Makinwa. Brazil took Ronaldo at a similar age to USA 94
Femi Oladapo that under 21 boy and Ayila would be much better than Etuhu and Olofinjana put together, How about Echiejile the U-21 boy who plays for Rennes he puts in Sterling performances for Rennes week in week out I watched his game for Rennes against Marseile and he was very impressive.

Any nigerian giving him or herself headache over the super eagles needs to visit a psycharist fast. A team that is famous for being under achievers and disappoint you when it matters the most. History is full with all their fumblings and this one is no better. Anytime nigeria is to do well in a competition, you would just know. The calibre of players and team morale would be so intimidating that it would be a travesty to assume that they might come second.
Check out the tunisa 94 team or the japan 93 boys or the temile led boys. Although we lost the nig/ghana 2000, it was still a solid team that deserved to be winners. But this team? Abeg spare me. Since ghana beat them 4-1 in a friendly, i know this team has no hope of doing well.
Funy enough they would beat cote d' ivoire and mali to qualify but when it matters the most, they would fumble. All they are concerned about is beating ivory coast and not the long road to the final day. Your better off following the premiership religiously doing the anc period than remotely giving yourself hypertension about nigeria.

most of the negative comments hav been unwarranted and at best hyper-pessimistic. For those complaining about people playing in div1 being chosen in the eagles squad eg shittu, olofinjana etc. look @ ghana they named junior agogo who plays in english league two equivalent of div 3. Even apart from Essien who plays for chelsea which other black stars player plays for a major club in europe? yet we all know what a major force they are because they hav built a solid team. so please b positive back our Super Eagles. i know its in you

as usual we are all expecting naija to win the competition because history has always favoured us, at least we win the cup every 14 years but i think we should look at that group of ours first, that group na die mehn! but if the boys are determined then we should be able to blaze through that group.
