Islam for Muslims / An Islamic Approach To Business Ethics by noibilism(m): 1:48pm On Jan 29
Islam places the highest emphasis on ethical values in all aspects of human life. In Islam, ethics governs all aspects of life. Ethical norms and moral codes discernable from the verses of the Holy Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet (sws) are numerous, far reaching and comprehensive. Islamic teachings strongly stress the observance of ethical and moral code in human behaviour. Moral principles and codes of ethics are repeatedly stressed throughout the Holy Qur’an. Besides, there are numerous teachings of the Prophet (sws) which cover the area of moral and ethical values and principles. Says the Holy Qur’an:

You are the best nation that has been raised up for mankind; You enjoin right conduct, forbid evil and believe in Allah. (3:110)

The Prophet (sws) also says:

I have been sent for the purpose of perfecting good morals. (Ibn Hambal[1], No: 8595)...........Read More: http://pathway2jannah.blogspot.com/2013/01/an-islamic-approach-to-business-ethics.html

AbiodunFaf: Is it possible for one to survive as a web developer in Nigeria? I need your honest opinion

Properties / Buying A Home: Lagos Vs. Abuja by noibilism(m): 11:39am On May 31, 2012
First of all, we must bear in mind the difference between buying a house and buying a home. Buying a house is buying a piece of real estate; but a home is a house you intend to live in and that is a whole new ball game.

Let’s take a look at the basics of buying a home before we zone in on two of the country’s major hustle spots.

The location: Builders, landlords and agents are always singing about the right location, but there’s more to it than they would tell. Factors; access roads, factories (pollution, and waste matter), proximity of schools (for the kids), hospitals, shopping malls, markets and decent leisure spots, electricity, water, flooding, ventilation and emergency exits (buildings built too closely together), security, population, pedigree of your neighbours, and night life.

In addition to that, some locations carry stigmas and you get a stereotype just for living there. For instance, labels like: smugglers’ zones, traders’ zones, advance fee fraudsters’ zones, touts’ zones. Even if you don’t mind the stigmatization you should at least take the time to find out how true the stories are before you buy the house.

Legal: ‘Buyers Beware’ is something you must take extremely seriously. Do not fall into the misfortune of buying a house from someone who had no right to sell it in the first place. Where there is joint ownership, ensure that all parties are consenting and they all indicate that consent in print – and with their signatures. Where there is a legal issue hovering above the house, steer clear of it no matter the assurance the seller gives you. Understand that real estate cases can be unpredictable and never-ending. Also ensure that the house is not encroaching on government land.

The Viewing: When you are going to see the house do these:
Go there in broad day light. Go there in the mid-morning. Never rely on light bulbs or twilight; you could miss cracks, water marks and other things. If you like what you see, arrange for a second viewing and make it mid-afternoon this time for a different perspective.

Business / Market Analysis AS AT April 2, 2012 by noibilism(m): 4:11pm On Apr 03, 2012
Money Market
Liquidity was tight in the Money markets, with just about 20Bn in free cash, coming in majorly from Repo transactions with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Overnight rates were at 15.54% on Friday, but came down slightly to 15.42% today. With the major inflows from the Federation Account Allocation Committee still about 2 weeks away, the Money market is expected to remain tight. However, interest rates are not expected to go overboard this week, as there is low level of demand at the Wholesale Dutch Auction System (WDAS), one of the most important outflows from the interbank money market.
T-BILLS MARKET
Moderate demand sent yields downwards on Most trading maturities by an average of 5 basis points., with the highest yield being 14.90% on the 364 day bills (07 March 2013 Maturity.) However, with about 98Bn Open Market Operations (OMO) bills maturing this week, it is highly likely that the CBN will issue fresh OMO bills to replace the maturities.

Politics / Airfare Disparity: Any Justification? by noibilism(m): 4:03pm On Mar 29, 2012
I got this while doing some research about the topic above:

Lately, the airfare disparity on the Lagos – London and Accra – London route has come under severe scrutiny. The Ministry of Aviation had given the affected airlines, mainly British Airways and Virgin Atlantic a 30-day ultimatum to close the fare gap or be banned. The Executive and Legislative arms of government have also thrown their weight behind this decision.

The focus of the authorities is on British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, both of British origin. However, we dug further to see if indeed these are the only two airlines guilty of the “crime”. Our findings reveal that practically all airlines that ply the Lagos – London or Abuja – London routes charge more than their Accra – London route.

What could be the cause of this? Is it a deliberate ploy on the part of these airlines to milk Nigerians or their money (both legitimate and illegitimate)? Are there factors internally that have contributed to the disparity? These are questions that need answers.

However, we have done an analysis of these routes using the same parameters for different airlines. Our findings are:
