Food / Re: Easiest Way To Remove Protective Slimy 'mucus' From The Skin Of Catfish. by otilowaju(f): 3:21pm On Dec 27, 2012
Nice though as it is to remove the slime, the catfish sellers (3 different ones at that) I asked for this same tip of easy removal have told me that the slime itself is its freshness and that there's no point stressing yourself out trying to completely remove it. It actually stops when it boils over in the pot anyways and never tastes slimy when eaten! undecided

Family / Re: Christmas Gift Idea For A Mother-In-Law by otilowaju(f): 4:23pm On Dec 24, 2012
Considering your financial capacity stated above, I'd suggest modest food items. Small bag of Semo, small bottle of oil, smalll packet of maggi, some onions (onion is actually very expensive this season),tin-tomato, some pieces of bonga fish, 1 derica of egusi, little of this and that, all these will make a small (local) hamper! Or just buy a 5litres (7and half bottles) of red oil, she can use this till Easter if she doesn't cook for many mouths!
Or if you know her size you can buy her a pair of slippers, good enough for outings.

Food / Re: Mamas Over 35 What Was Used To Make Food Taste Before Maggi Came by otilowaju(f): 12:31pm On Dec 24, 2012
For great local taste, I use iru in my soups, I also make generous use of onions in my stews, sauces, jollof/fried rice and the like.

For sweet aroma, I use bayleaf, scent leaf, nutmeg and curry/thyme. Onion, garlic and ginger promotes nice aroma too.

However, THE TASTE OF IRU/OGIRI/DAWADAWA WILL NOT BE NICE IN JOLLOF/FRIED RICE RICE! Inasmuch as this thread is meant to promote local condiments as against Maggi, we must understand that unless it is strictly a health issue, a little quantity of maggi will bring out the best in your jollof and fried rice imo.

nas4q: You have no case. It was assumed that d money paid to you was complete before u left d counter. Going back to d bank again confirmed u were indeed silly. At least now you have learnt d hard way and thats d best way to learn

No, I disagree! OP might be silly for not counting the money immediately but NOT for going back. Don't think it was possible the cashier discovered the error and offered to return cash to the owner in the case where it happened in error. There is no harm in checking back, not all of them are thieves.

yorke1: And you guys think most organisation if not all actually verify the authencity of the people you use as your reference. Come on guys....who will want to use someone that wouldnt speak well of him/her if called upon by the organisation. Even Satan have reference...people who will speak of how "wonderful" he is. So it of no consequential to me. I use my brother and uncle as my reference and havent been questioned by any organisation...i'm on my first job currently and i ve attended like 3 interview.

Am only bothered about those HODs. Many of them Ive heard were not so organised and I doubt if they'd be passionate enough to quickly respond to prospective employers letter of recommendation on a former student. Former employer/mentor you can easily follow up.

Yes o! thanks to you all. Baby is now 'big boy' as he calls himself grin. Neighbour and I are still getting along. Over the years I have successfully put a stop to ALL intrusions. We relate well enough but we both respect each other's privacy. As the baby grew from baby to toddler he started offending her embarassed (eg, pee on her living room floor or refuse to greet her) which she couldn't tolerate, she is one hell of a disciplinarian (I percieve she's an extremist by nature) (lol) . She still dotes on him but on a more mature level, in fact he himself speaks for himself and doesn't welcome undue excesses from her, the poor boy knows when to ignore her without being told. She still does not have a baby angrybut interestingly my son calls her Mummy Tolu (his name)(repeating what she calls me,thinks that's her name so we all call her same (Mummy Tolu). I'm glad I didn't fight her, we are both children workers in the same church and we still rub each other's back. Once again, I thank all who have responded to my SOS call. I appreciate all your comments.

I've found this topic very interesting. Sometime in 2006 when I lost my job, I ventured into gaming center (Playstation et al) but I didn't succeed in it cos of police raid today, council raid tomorrow. Paid NEPA bills yet used generator most of the time. It's an evening business and as a woman I had to close early enough to take care of the home front and I usually closed at the time the 'boys' are at their peak and they usually get disappointed. I had to close shop when I found it wasn't the way I expected.

I have a salary job now and I have one keke Marwa who delivers weekly but because its being managed by an agent, the deliveries are not coming up as planned. The driver is supposed to pay up between 10 and 12 months but he has barely managed to pay the capital (N400k) by 12months! If God helps me and he completes the payment I'm never going tow that line again!

I find blogging interesting but I'm lazy at writing......!

Health / Re: The Devil Called "COTTON Bud";is There Any Use For It? by otilowaju(f): 7:04pm On Aug 22, 2012
@ Poster, pele o, how far? Has it come out? If not, just drop little oil into the affected air, just enough to soak the cotton and use something like toothpick or hairpin to draw it out in a way the sharp substance won't touch your ear. It's happened to me several times so I know how it feels. You may restrict your use to the orinial brand.

But come oh, all those 'frying without oil'? I can understand chicken nuggets, but how will dodo or potato every fry without oil? Na jazz? shocked
