https://www.christianitytoday.com/history/issues/issue-33/why-christians-supported-slavery.html

Many southern Christians felt that slavery, in one Baptist minister’s words, “stands as an institution of God.” Here are some common arguments made by Christians at the time:

Biblical Reasons

• Abraham, the “father of faith,” and all the patriarchs held slaves without God’s disapproval (Gen. 21:9–10).

• Canaan, Ham’s son, was made a slave to his brothers (Gen. 9:24–27).

• The Ten Commandments mention slavery twice, showing God’s implicit acceptance of it (Ex. 20:10, 17).

• Slavery was widespread throughout the Roman world, and yet Jesus never spoke against it.

• The apostle Paul specifically commanded slaves to obey their masters (Eph. 6:5–cool.

• Paul returned a runaway slave, Philemon, to his master (Philem. 12).

Charitable and Evangelistic Reasons

• Slavery removes people from a culture that “worshipped the devil, practiced witchcraft, and sorcery” and other evils.

• Slavery brings heathens to a Christian land where they can hear the gospel. Christian masters provide religious instruction for their slaves.

• Under slavery, people are treated with kindness, as many northern visitors can attest.

• It is in slaveholders’ own interest to treat their slaves well.

• Slaves are treated more benevolently than are workers in oppressive northern factories.

Social Reasons

• Just as women are called to play a subordinate role (Eph. 5:22; 1 Tim. 2:11–15), so slaves are stationed by God in their place.

• Slavery is God’s means of protecting and providing for an inferior race (suffering the “curse of Ham” in Gen. 9:25 or even the punishment of Cain in Gen. 4:12).

• Abolition would lead to slave uprisings, bloodshed, and anarchy. Consider the mob’s “rule of terror” during the French Revolution.

Political Reasons

• Christians are to obey civil authorities, and those authorities permit and protect slavery.

• The church should concentrate on spiritual matters, not political ones.

• Those who support abolition are, in James H. Thornwell’s words, “atheists, socialists, communists [and] red republicans.”

The devil's advocate speaks but you should truly get rid of those shackles on your feet.

Could you kindly open a thread for it if you really want to discuss any shackles on my feet?

I wonder why you are so keen to change the subject, on a thread that you started yourself.

You say freemasons were slave traders. The entire country that you worship so much (USA) was built on slavery, by christian slave owners who converted and taught bible to the slaves. All your religious institutions supported it, and even the bible lays out laws for carrying out the slavery of others.

How can you accuse JW of being slave traders when the bible itself is in support of the heinous activity?

You should rather consider the spiritual shackles on your feet that is gradually dragging you to the pit of hell. shocked

I will make due consideration of any spiritual shackles o, thanks for your concern.

However my point above, as perfectly demonstrated by this thread and its contents, is a point often made by Jesus/yahushua/Joshua, which is that your obsessions with the shortcomings of others have made you totally blind to your own shortcomings, so tay you are trying to remove dust in someone's eye while you have a whole log of wood in your own eye.

this phenomenon is also known as irony. You obviously lack any sense of irony and fail to see how it pours out of every pore of your being.

Anyway sha, this thread stands as a example and lesson to those who would like to understand Matthew 7:5

Religion / Evil Source Of Evangelical Christianity by PastorAIO: 11:05am On May 03, 2022
https://medium.com/belover/the-greatest-evangelical-cleric-was-a-slaveowner-eafc23bbb6b0

The founder of Evangelicalism was a white supremacist
Jonathan Edwards left a horror history that his religion tried to conceal
In 1997, a historian at Yale University published a startling paper. In the archives of Jonathan Edwards he’d found a letter defending slavery.
Kenneth P. Minkema’s paper, “Jonathan Edwards on Slavery and the Slave Trade,” revealed a secret the religion had kept for centuries about the man often called ‘the father of Evangelicalism’.

....A portrait was coming together that was very different from any which had been presented by the religion. Edwards had been a hard-core pro-slavery advocate. He’d attacked abolitionists.
Another local pastor had been under fire from his congregation for slave owning. Edwards defended the man, saying those criticizing him were out “to make disturbance and raise uneasiness among people against their minister to the great wounding of religion.”

....That is to say, Edwards altered the Bible’s presentation of the messiah in order to defend American slavery.

...The reality is that he hadn’t believed in the Bible at all. He was using references, very selectively, to create a rule of white supremacy.

He whipped a she-slave so long that she fell down at his feet for dead. When by the help of a physician she was so far recovered as to show signs of life, he repeated the whipping with equal rigour, and concluded with dropping hot sealing-wax upon her flesh. Her crime was overfilling a tea- cup.

...Most Evangelical leaders to this day have been openly racist.
The ‘great’ evangelists—Dwight L. Moody, Billy Sunday, and Billy Graham—all had segregated rallies.
Christian colleges and seminaries—Dallas Theological Seminary, Bob Jones University, etc.— remained white-only as long as they could.
Evangelical churches were segregated. In 1960, Martin Luther King Jr. observed that “eleven o’clock on Sunday morning is one of the most segregated hours, if not the most segregated hours, in Christian America.”

All this explains the mind and postings of evangelical christians on NL like Olaadegbu.

An example of divination is the I Ching. I Ching divides all possibilities into 64 possible scenarios. Each of those scenarios can be generated by casting 3 coins 6 times.

For example, imagine a man wants to buy a business. He has the money to do so and the way seems clear for him to do so, yet he consults the I Ching Oracle. He casts his coins 6 times and the Hexagram 34 is the result. Then he opens the book and reads the interpretation of the hexagram.

https://www.iching-online.com/hexagrams/iching-hexagram-001111.html

I Ching Hexagram 34.
Ta Chuang / The Power of the Great
The Judgement
The Power of the Great. Perseverance furthers.

line 1 Power in the toes.
Continuing brings misfortune.
This is certainly true.

Line 3: The inferior man works through power.
The superior man does not act thus.
To continue is dangerous.
A goat butts against a hedge
And gets its horns entangled.

From studying the lines and reading the text he comes to the conclusion that though he is in a powerful position if he proceeds he will get stuck. Maybe the business may get him entangled in a situation that he can't reverse from. He decides not to buy the business.

All this is done with reasoning and has nothing to do with trances, familiar spirits, or mediumship.

Pastoshizzy:
There's room for anyone to learn something new. The people I'm most uncomfortable with are people who don't have as much experience as you do but are more endowed with grammatical ability to confuse you that have been there. A man was a life time victim of the same topic (Divination), he was delivered.. became a walking encyclopaedia on the topic, now one alecky smart dude wants a biography as explanation. Anyway, after sampling opinions I have come to conclusion that ignorance is bliss when you have the right camouflage to cover it. Learn ! It's not that bad.

Mr Man, you are not demonstrating anything. Anybody can make up stories. I challenge you that you are lying. How do I know? because it is what I have come to expect from 'christians'. There is evidence of your fondness for lying all over Nairaland. In your mendacious imagination you think you have more experience than me. You don't even know me.

Exoticfarmer:

1. You are just trying out some new words.
2. You seem to derive joy in kindling strife.
3. You seem to make many a feeble argument.
4. You speak with ignorance and nonchalance about the Holy Spirit.

For the above reasons, i don't think it's wise to throw words back n' forth with you. I may remain silent to your mentions on this topic hereafter, High probability ~ besides a Nairalander has already summarised the Truth for u. but you still argued.

1. What has using a new word got to do with the gist of the matter? or you're trying to deflect. that is another tactic I've observed in lying christians.

2. Another pernicious and obnoxious trait that demoniacs portray is to play victim when they are in fact the aggressor. In spite of the clear evidence on this thread. The OP started with an inquiry. During divination, does the diviner hear from the gods? I and Tenshades laid out that there is a distinction between mediumship and divination. However others used the inquiry as an opportunity to attack traditional religion with claims that are still unproven on this thread.
A simple request that you should back up your claims, and explain how you arrived at your opinion, na lie, una begin una prevaricating and you now use this your post to throw jibes at me.

3. You nko? You make no argument at all. If my argument is feeble then the way discourse works is that you demonstrate with counter argument why it is feeble. But you can't because you're under the influence of a lying spirit.

4. You are being ignorant about the Holy Spirit. A claim is made that the 'Holy Spirit' will tell you everything you need to know. Then I ask, quite simply. If you have a medical condition, to you get advise from a qualified medical practitioner or do you ask the 'Holy Spirit'? Just because you cannot answer this question because the answer exposes your claim as nonsensical you resort to calling me ignorant and nonchalant, Abi? And you claim that it is I that is kindling strife.

Such foolishness has been the bane of my country Nigeria. All your claims that you claim are falling flat on the ground before your face every where we look in Nigeria. All the prophecies made in your fake-assed churches fail. Even the church building sef fails and kills many with it. Yet the madness continues and it is due to arrogant agents of misguided folly such as yourself.

Good.
Besides, I believe the casting of lot in this context (Acts1:26) is same as voting.

You and LilMissFavvy may believe what ever you want to believe but the fact remains the same. We all know what casting of lots is. Don't let the truth stop you from believing what you feel you have to believe though.

LilMissFavvy:
Casting of lots was not practiced in the new testament.

This is a lie and you know it because you yourself have referenced the appointment of Matthias. Abi is that one not in the New Testament again?

LilMissFavvy:

You said anybody with wisdom, can interprete ifa?

I never said anybody with wisdom can interpret Ifa. I said if you were intelligent and had good pattern recognition skills.

Thereafter, the disciples did not cast lots again, I stand to be corrected
The Ultracrepidarian in you has started again o. How can you state so authoritatively that it didn't happen again? Were you there?

Is trinity mentioned in the bible? Yet I bet you believe in the trinity.

Since the Holy Spirit is teaching you all that you need to know, why do you bother to go to school? Why do you go and get legal advice, why do you seek medical advise. Why not just ask the holy spirit in you?

Religion / Re: Divination by PastorAIO: 12:50pm On Apr 28, 2022
Your tune has changed here. You even changed genre, you went from hip hop and now you are on reggae. At least we can now conclude that Bible did not condemn casting of lots as you said:
Bible condemns casting lots, and use of these mediums. I am unable to understand if you are trying to insult' me oga undecided.

Now you continue to damn divination because you say after the election of Matthias it was not mentioned again. However the fact that it is not mentioned in the bible does not mean that they didn't still practice it and that Churches of the Apostolic traditions don't still practice it.

There has always been a spiritual way to get divine messages, not just through divination. That is what Prophecy is all about. Prophecy didn't start after pentecost. In fact every thing that happened in pentecost had already happened before. The claim, as I understand it, is that magnitude of the outpouring of spirit would increase. So even those not considered prophets would prophecy.

"In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams."

This prophecy of Joel's was used in Acts as the explanation of what went on in Pentecost. It wasn't the first time people dreamed or prophesied. The only difference was that it was being poured out on all flesh.

Despite the fact that some messages were given directly from yhwh by his prophets did not stop the fact that divination tools were used too.

1Samuel 28:6

And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.

The Urim and the Thummin were the chief divination tools that the Hebrews used and they used them at the same time they were also consulting prophets and interpreting dreams.

Now the OP asked whether these gadgets that the priests used to tell his future meant that they were hearing from God. I, and Tenshades, explained that these are two very separate things. Channeling spirits is totally different from using divination tools. When you channel, you go into a trance, yet when you use divining tools your very much alert and your brain is working to interpret the outcome of the divination. You don't have to go in a trance or even be initiated. For example, with Ifa, anybody that has the intelligence and the perception for pattern recognition can interpret Ifa. It is very much brain work as opposed to spirit work.

LilMissFavvy:
Casting lots was used mostly in the old testament, before Christ's death/resurection. Of course after Christ's death/resurection, there were a lot of changes in how things were done. I agree that casting lots is found in very many verses in the old testament. The disciples did not receive the holy ghost baptism during the time they cast lots to chose Mathias. As at that time Jesus only promised them that he will baptise them with the holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, so that the holy spirit will be teaching them what they need to know and give answers to their enquiries ( Acts 1:4- 8 ). Thereafter, the disciples did not cast lots again, I stand to be corrected.

As a Christian, why would you need to cast lots when the holy Spirit can tell you whatever you need to know? Look at the picture the OP used as emphasis, and tell me if anything concernining God can be done in that place.

You can remember how Saul fell out of grace with God when he consulted a medium, so it always good to avoid mediums. Casting lots is done by most mediums, so better to avoid it. I do not believe that a genuine pastor would cast lots to enquire from God in our world of today, what do you think? Can a genuine pastor do it?

It is not an insult. I’m just keen to know how you ( and now saynotocultism ) arrived at your knowledge.

You say there are ways to know things without getting involved. Fair enough. Explain the way you came to know these things without getting involved.

Please where in the bible is the casting of lots condemned. In my bible it says that it is the Will of God. That's how we know God's will.

Proverbs 16:33

33The lot is cast into the lap,
but its every decision is from the LORD.

There is a comprehensive list of all the mentions of Lots in the bible in Wikipedia, under the chapter of Cleromancy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleromancy

Casting of lots is mentioned 47 times in the Bible. Some examples in the Hebrew Bible of the casting of lots as a means of determining God's will:

In the Book of Leviticus 16:8, God commanded Moses, "And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat."
According to Numbers 26:55, Moses allocated territory to the tribes of Israel according to each tribe's male population and by lot.
In Joshua 7:14, a guilty party (Achan) is found by lot.
In the Book of Joshua 18:6, Joshua says, "Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God." The Hebrews took this action in order to know God's will as to the dividing of land between the seven tribes of Israel who had not yet "received their inheritance". (Joshua 18:2).

LilMissFavvy:

Read and digest what saynoto'cultism' wrote here, he took time to explain.

Hello People, i believe this is the right section for this. I have once visited some voodoo priests in past and they seem to have one thing in common. They bring out some fetish things and they start forecasting your destiny.

My Question : Do they really hear from the gods ?

The use of divination is common to all humanity. In the bible too they use Umin and Thummin and they also use casting of lots wella wella.

This is different from mediumship where you supposedly hear directly from god. The ‘fetish things’ they bring out are interpreted according to some rules.

It might help to check out Jung’s theory of synchronicity.

Okanran Meji

Okanran speaks of the end of a linear process. A system that once worked but has now become stagnant, or worse, starts producing the opposite effects from what was intended.

Such a situation is often depicted as a drought, or famine.

Dynasties and lineages are such linear structures. There is something that has been passed down from generation to generation but it's reached the end of the line now. The crown prince will not inherit his father's throne. The son will not receive his inheritance. However, on the other hand, if he departs from the lineage and goes to a foreign country or another place he will get crowned there, or be bequeathed something from someone else's family. That change and the new energy and flow it brings is often depicted as a long anticipated rain fall that ends the drought.

This was divined from Laarumo
who didn't want the son of the chief to inherit the title.
Sacrificing ebo is what saves one
failure to sacrifice will not save us.

This is the story of a guy that was tampering with the election process of choosing the next King. He felt that as the son of the previous king the title should fall to him by rights. As a consequence of the tampering he lost his life.

If the owner of the sacrifice does not call one

The matter that I'm not involved in

This was divined for Okanran Meji
when he was going to the land of Etile.
He was asked to sacrifice

"It is when you reached Etile that you became a recognised child"
"When you reached Etilę you refused to return home"
"It is when you reached Etilę you became a cherished child"

Whatever worked for the querent's ancestors no longer work for him/her. Yet s/he will go to a foreign land and prosper there. S/he will become an honorary member of the foreign land. In fact s/he might do so well there, better than the indigenes. Even to the extent that she is crowned the ruler of the foreign land.

In some verses it transpires that there was a famine or drought in the foreign land and the arrival of the querent brings about a refreshing rainfall. Because of that s/he is appreciated and honoured.
Something this person is doing is not being appreciated in his homeland, but if he were to travel abroad with it he will become successful.

Perhaps this is what is putting most people off (I'm only thinking aloud before anybody slays me).

You have to go into a forest etc.

With Christianity, you simply believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you shall be saved.
Simple.

You miss the part about Baptism. 'Repent and be baptised'.

You also miss the subsequent Tithes and First Fruits that you have to keep up with if you want to 'make heaven'.

As they say, "if you are not paying for it, YOU are the commodity". Facebook is free but those that own Facebook know how they are using you to make money. (a victim of technological money ritual). Jesus is free, but you will still pay one way or the other.

How do men witness Odu please.

You go into Igbodu (the forest of Odu) and get initiated, that is the process called Itefa. They open the calabash of Odu and you look inside.

Can you expatiate on this please? And how do men

Odu is talked about a lot in Ofun Meji, that is an Ifa odu (small letter odu).

Ogbaragada li o dia fun Odu
Ogbaragada made the divination for Odu
when Odu was going to create all the character in the world (Iwa gbogbo)
He was told to make sacrifice.
Four poles and one big calabash with a lid and a chain.
He heard and made the sacrifice
No one would ever question his authority he was told.
He should plant the 4 posts and place the calabash on them
and use the Chain to attach the poles to his hands.
He did as he was told.
The day Odu created all the characters and forms in the world is called Oodua ( Odu ti o da Iwa).
He created all that exists within the calabash
We and all creation are all living inside that calabash.

A deep study of Ofun Meji will reveal that those 4 posts are nothing other than the 4 Elements that Hermetic traditions tells us that the world is made out of. White, Red, Yellow, and Black.

Hands up. I fell for it. That old ‘change the subject’ trick. You got me.

Abeg why did your god give direct statutes to the Hebrews to sacrifice their children?

OLAADEGBU:

Wrong. False old prophet.

"For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings" (Hosea 6:6).

Since he doesn’t like sacrifice and burnt offering then why does he ask for it from Moses?

If the smell of burning carcass is a sweet aroma to him and he asks for it from Moses then why the contradictions? Which is the lie, which is the liar?
Moses or Hosea?

Ezekiel 20:25

25Moreover, I gave them statutes that were not good and rules by which they could not have life, 26and I defiled them through their very gifts in their offering up all their firstborn, that I might devastate them. I did it that they might know that I am the LORD.

OLAADEGBU:

The same way God hardened the heart of Pharaoh and all those who hate him. cool

Eh ehn. Abeg, harden hearts and giving statutes and rules are two different things.

Isaiah 60
11Your gates shall be open continually;
day and night they shall not be shut,
that people may bring to you the wealth of the nations,
with their kings led in procession.
12 For the nation and kingdom
that will not serve you shall perish;
those nations shall be utterly laid waste
.

Isaiah 45
14Thus says the LORD:
“The wealth of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush,
and the Sabeans, men of stature,
shall come over to you and be yours;
they shall follow you;
they shall come over in chains and bow down to you.
They will plead with you, saying:
‘Surely God is in you, and there is no other,
no god besides him.’”

Now we are starting to get the agenda.

Wherever you see the influence of the ignoble Abrahamic fictions, you see bigotry, ignorance, injustice, and self-righteous belief that they have the moral high ground. The present state of Israel even goes so far as to run an apartheid state with support of most christians.

It’s elevation of one group of people over others as the “chosen people” of a universal deity promotes prejudice. If you accept the ridiculous notion that these people are chosen then you imply that you are somehow inferior. In order for the Romans and the Catholic Church to really spread the religion in Europe, they had to create images based on these stories in the likeness of Europeans, so that when the European mercanitile class started using it as a tool of conquest, Europeans saw themselves as the chosen people and everyone else to be beneath them. This is thh by e foundation of “white supremacy” and we continue to see the harm it causes worldwide.

Africans and other people that came in contact with these European Christians were seen as inferior and their images did not make it into the description of the divine. Non-Europeans who continue to adhere to these religions are implying their own inferiority and such people will be mired in mediocrity because they can’t envision themselves as more. There as to be an extensive and comprehensive propaganda project to reverse the psychological damage already done.

But really we don’t need to read the bible to see that nefarious nasty evil of this entity that claims to be the creator of the world.

Just look around wherever his adherents are. Look all over Nigeria and the world where the abrahamics prevail.
When we started to obsess on this abrahamic evils that was when the country started getting worse and worse.

When Roman Empire embraced it that was when Rome fell. For Western Europe to rise to where it is today they had to embrace humanism and scientific enquiry which the church viciously opposed.

This whole affair is so barbarous and nasty. Hateful deceitful narcissistic repulsive people are produced by following it.
