Celebrities / Funke Akindele Breaks Down In Tears, Debunks Allegations Of Abandoning Jumoke by phoneport(m): 11:36am On Apr 10 |
Akindele, who worked with Aderounmu on her TV serial, ‘Jenifa’s Diary,’ had taken to her Instagram page to mourn her. Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele has said reports of her abandoning late actress Jumoke Aderounmu is untrue. Recall that after Jumoke passed away, her brother stormed social media to accuse Funke of hypocrisy over her condolence message. Jumoke's brother had also claimed that she didn't reach out to the actress during her battle with sickness that eventually killed her, but she ignored her messages. Recall that Aderounmu passed away on Saturday at the age of 40 after battling an undisclosed ailment. Akindele, who worked with Aderounmu on her TV serial, ‘Jenifa’s Diary,’ had taken to her Instagram page to mourn her. However, a brother of the deceased shared a post on his Instagram account, stating how someone who ignored his late sister during her predicament was now mourning her on social media. Many, who suspected he was referring to Akindele, thronged to the actress’ page to lambast her. Reacting to the backlash in an Instagram live session, Akindele explained that she was depressed and dealing with her own “trying moments too” when Aderounmu was sick. She said, “Some people are telling me to keep quiet since I’ve reached out to the deceased’s brother and explained. But I think I deserve… Somebody commented on my page that I may bury my children. I think that is serious. Why? What have I done wrong? “The late Jumoke Aderounmu, I met her years ago. She was an actress, so I gave her some roles. She featured in Jenifa’s Diary and Industreet. And that was it. She acted her role, got paid and left. "Recently, my attention was brought to a post by Jumoke’s brother. He was so upset that nobody checked on Jumoke. I said I know he is grieving. I know it’s not easy to lose someone. I’ve lost my mum. Nobody knows what I went through. I was depressed after losing my mum. “So, I reached out to Jumoke’s brother. I said, ‘I’m so sorry. I feel your pain. Nobody told me that your sister was sick. I don’t turn deaf ears to people that are in need that are next to me. They wrote that I don’t help, I do help but I don’t make noise about helping. I believe giving should be done privately.’ “I don’t beef any filmmaker, I do my things, I face where I’m going. The records I’ve been able to break are by the grace of God. Do not forget I’ve got my trying moments too. “My mum passed away during COVID-19, I was backlashed politically, and I lost my marriage. Somebody is now saying that I will lose my children. I think that is too much.” SOURCE: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/44VQmntmbvKpEAuL/?mibextid=oFDknk

Crime / After Robbing A House, They Gave The Husband Gun To Shoot The Wife; Guess What? by phoneport(m): 10:48am On Mar 25 |
Robbers enter a House and asked for all the Money and Valuables. After they collect what they can, they gave the man of the house a gun with instructions to shoot his wife or shoot himself. The man gets the gun, points it at his wife and hesitates. He is thinking of what he has gone through in life with his wife and how she has suffered and sacrificed for him. He hands back the gun and says, “I am sorry I can’t do this… The boss of the robbers silently grabs the gun from him and passes it on to the wife to kill her husband. The wife gets the gun and without any single hesitation points to her husband’s head and pulls the trigger. But at last, the gun had no bullets in it. The robbers get their gun and walk out of the house laughing. QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION. 1) If you were the man, what will you do? 2) If you were the wife, what explanation will you give? 3) If you were invited to bring peace how will you settle it Kindly drop your answers 1 Like

Sports / Air Peace CEO Vows Legal Action Against NFF Over Hiring Foreign Coach For Eagles by phoneport(m): 7:39am On Mar 25 |
Allen Onyema, football enthusiast, chairman and CEO of Air Peace, has threatened to take legal action against the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over hiring a foreign coach for the Super Eagles while calling for an indigenous manager for the three-time African champions. The NFF recently advertised the role of Super Eagles coach following the expiration of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro’s contract after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Peseiro led the Nigerian national team to the runner-up spot at the 2023 AFCON and could not reach a contractual agreement with the NFF to extend his contract. Onyema, a staunch supporter of the Super Eagles, has voiced his displeasure over the preference for a foreign coach over local coaches and threatens legal action against the NFF if they hire a foreign coach for the Super Eagles. "I do not see the reason why we cannot have a look into the country and get somebody out there that will take on the Super Eagles,” Onyeama said as quoted by City People Online. “A lot of them succeeded. The truth is that when a foreign coach bows out of the group stage, nobody talks; when a Nigerian coach bows out from Quarterfinals or semi-finals, oh if it had been a foreign coach, we would have won the cup. “Nobody gives Nigerian coaches a chance. Nigerians should rise against any NFF that goes again to get any idiot as a foreign coach. “We don’t need a foreign coach; let us grow our own. Let us even save the naira. Let us grow our own and give the Nigerian coach the same incentive you give the foreign coach and see them excel. “We should go to court to stop NFF from employing foreign coaches; I will join you, I am telling you. “And I will fund it. We should go to court. We must begin to love this country; that’s all I have to say about this NFF now.” Meanwhile, former international Finidi George, assistant coach to Peseiro is in charge of the Super Eagles in an interim capacity and recently led Nigeria to a 2-1 victory over the Black Stars Ghana in an international friendly on March 22 will also be against Mali on Tuesday, March 26 in Morocco. The NFF is expected to announce the appointment of a new coach for the Super Eagles by April in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June. Recall that Air Peace in September 2021 signed a sponsorship deal with NFF worth N300 million, making it the Official Airline Sponsor of Nigerian National Teams. Nairaland / General / EXCLUSIVE: Detained Binance Executive Escapes From Custody In Nigeria by phoneport(m): 7:12am On Mar 25 |
Mr Anjarwalla escaped a day after the Nigerian government slammed a four-count criminal charge on him, Tigran Gambaryan and Binance. ByOladeinde Olawoyin March 25, 2024 Reading Time: 3 mins read Nadeem Anjarwalla, one of the two Binance executives detained in Nigeria for alleged tax evasion and other offences, has escaped from lawful custody, those familiar with the matter have told PREMIUM TIMES. Our sources said Mr Anjarwalla, 38, escaped on Friday, 22 March, from the Abuja guest house where he and his colleague were detained after guards on duty led him to a nearby mosque for prayers in the spirit of the ongoing Ramadan fast. The Briton, who also has Kenyan citizenship, is believed to have flown out of Abuja using a Middle East airliner. It remains unclear how Mr Anjarwalla got on an international flight despite his British passport, with which he entered Nigeria, remaining in the custody of the Nigerian authorities. Authorities are also said to be working to unravel his intended destination in a bid to get him back into custody. An Immigration official said the Binance executive fled Nigeria on a Kenyan passport. He, however, said authorities were trying to determine how he obtained the passport, given that he had no other travel document (apart from the British passport) on him when he was taken into custody. Another source said the two officials were held at a “comfortable guest house” and allowed many rights, including the use of telephones, a privilege Mr Anjarwalla is believed to have exploited to plot an escape. When contacted Sunday night on the escape of the Binance executive from detention, the Head of Strategic Communication at the Office of the National Security Adviser, Zakari Mijinyawa, said he would enquire and revert. He has yet to do so as of the time of filing this report. Mr Anjarwalla, Binance’s Africa regional manager, and Tigran Gambaryan, a US citizen overseeing financial crime compliance at the crypto exchange platform, were detained upon their arrival in Nigeria on 26 February 2024. A criminal charge was filed against the two executives before a Magistrate Court in Abuja. On 28 February 2024, the court granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) an order to remand the duo for 14 days. The court also ordered Binance to provide the Nigerian government with the data/information of Nigerians trading on its platform. Following Binance’s refusal to comply with the order, the court extended the remand of the officials for an additional 14 days to prevent them from tampering with evidence. The court then adjourned the case till 4 April 2024. Also on 22 March, the Nigerian government approached the Federal High Court in Abuja and slammed another four-count charge on Binance Holdings Limited, Mr Anjarwalla and Mr Gambaryan, accusing them of offering services to subscribers on their platform while failing to register with the Federal Inland Revenue Service to pay all relevant taxes administered by the Service and in so doing, committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 8 of the Value Added Tax Act of 1993 (as Amended). The defendants were also accused of offering taxable services to subscribers on their trading platform while failing to issue invoices to those subscribers to determine and pay their value-added taxes and, in so doing, committed an offence contrary to and punishable under S.29 of the Value Added Tax Act of 1993 (as amended). Count Three of the charges accused the three defendants of offering services to subscribers on their Binance trading platform for the buying and selling of cryptocurrencies and the remittance and transfer of those assets while failing to deduct the necessary Value Added Taxes arising from their operations and thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 40 of the Federal Inland Revenue Service Establishment Act 2007 (as amended). The last count of the charges wants the defendants punished for allegedly aiding and abetting subscribers on their Binance trading platform to unlawfully refuse to pay taxes or neglect to pay those taxes and, in so doing, committing an offence contrary to and punishable under the provisions of S.94 of the Companies Income Tax Act (as amended). The Nigerian government had, in the past three months, been cracking down on suspected money launderers and terrorism financiers, some of whom it alleged are using the Binance platform for criminal activities The Nigerian government said over $21.6 billion was traded by Nigerians whose identities were concealed by Binance. The government also claimed its investigations revealed that unscrupulous elements were using Binance for money laundering, terrorist financing, currency speculation and market manipulation, distorting the Nigerian economy and weakening the Naira against other currencies The detention of Binance officials in Nigeria began months after the crypto exchange platform pleaded guilty and agreed to pay $4.3 billion to settle criminal money laundering charges levied by the US Department of Justice. Binance founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ, pleaded guilty and agreed to resign. His criminal trial has been postponed to 30 April by a US court Source: https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/680511-exclusive-detained-binance-executive-escapes-from-custody-in-nigeria.html
