Culture / Re: Why It Is Offensive To Give/Receive With Your Left Hand? by pinkheartng: 5:51am On Nov 25, 2015
It's the right hand that should give offense actually. In these days of unbridled offense-taking I guess anything allowed. Before the advent of toilet paper, people used everything from corn cobs to green leaves to wipe their bum. Washing your bum with water was also quite common. Because the water was held with the right hand and left hand used to clean the bum proper, the left hand garnered an unsavory reputation. Giving or receiving anything with the "poo hand" became undesirable.

We don't wash our bums with our left hand anymore. We use toilet paper to wipe our bum. With our right hand.

So you should actually be offended if some offers you something with their right hand.

I told you all she'd be fine. God did not bring her this far to abandon her.

In the end charity is not really about charity. It’s about empowerment. In this case, it’s about getting Ibukun well and getting Mercy back on her feet. She is a sweet, innocent mother desperate to save her child.

Getting her back on her feet will take more than N800,000.

It’s easy to say this is about Ibukun and not the mother. In my estimation, mother and daughter are one.

Let us all do our best for Mercy Itunu.
Health / Re: Help !!! Help Save Light; A Great Fighter by pinkheartng: 2:28pm On Nov 15, 2015
I’m sure Mercy is fine. I think we should be more concerned with how she will pay the balance of the surgery and get back home. We haven’t talked about post surgery rehabilitation of the baby. That will cost money as well. She has borrowed about N1.5 million to make this trip possible. Managing the baby post surgery and fending off creditors all at once will not be an easy task.

Mercy needs you now more than ever. As someone who’s been to Ilupeju Ekiti and held Ibukun Ayodeji, I am as sentimentally attached to the child as Donald. Our project officer says you could have mistaken him for the child’s father at the airport. That is commitment.

We have about 40 days to raise at least N1million.

Have a pleasant Sunday everyone.

Nairaland / General / Re: Rule 22 Against Asking For Money On Nairaland by pinkheartng: 8:09pm On Sep 20, 2015
This is wrong on a fundamental level. From a morality perspective, some might consider it wicked. I don't think it is wise for Mr Seun to be putting statements like this about. Whatever his intentions, he comes off as callous and unfeeling. Can anyone imagine Mark Zuckerberg saying people should not ask for help on facebook?! There would be an uproar. In fact, Mr Zuckerberg did quite the opposite. A few weeks ago, facebook launched a donate button to allow just about anyone use the site to access donations. Twitter has also launched a feature that allow people to collect donations. Paypal is making it easier for just about anyone to receive donations.

In our opinion, Mr Seun's proposal is counterintuitive in the worst possible way. Mrs Itunu's baby is dying and she would certainly have abandoned all hope without people like mutter, tearoses, r1234 etc. These are people she has never met and probably will never meet. And you want to stop all of that? For what? So we can talk about what Kim Kadashian wore today or yesterday?

We think Mr Seun should be proud that people are using his forum to help others ans save lives. Nairaland doesn't have serious competition now. This is just the kind of thing your competition needs to kick you out of business.

For all those shouting ban, ban, ban. Life is full of problems. Tomorrow you could be the one who needs donations. Think about that.

Politics / Re: What A Military Man Did To A Danfo Driver Today In Apapa (Photos) by pinkheartng: 1:13pm On Aug 26, 2015
What the driver did or did not do is completely irrelevant. This shows a lack of discipline and professionalism on the part of the soldier. It also shows disrespect for his superior officers. If a lawyer comes into this, all hell will break loose at the cantonment.
When people hear human rights abuse, they think its something that happens in a war zone. No, this is it! You can bet your last Naira that Amnesty International and the White House have seen this. Nothing is hidden anymore. We should always put country first. This is not a good image.

Family / Opininon: We Can Do Better!! by pinkheartng: 7:12am On Aug 24, 2015
We have seen several posts here of people asking for help to solve one problem or another. It takes courage and conviction to ask the public to come to your aid. Comments like "God will surely heal him/her," "Let them go to a powerful Man of God in Abeokuta," and our personal favorite "Leave everything to God" do very little to help. This is not to disparage God or Christianity in any way. God has done many wonderful things in our lives. It's just that the idea of telling a poor widow - whose son will surely die without proper medical attention - to "leave everything to God" is bad. Let us try to be more helpful to our brothers and sisters in need.

We see a Nigeria where charitable giving becomes a culture. A Nigeria where parents give and encourage their children to do same. More than 90% of American households give to charity every year and they are not even as kind and generous as we are.

We believe we can do better!

Have a beautiful week ahead people.
Family / Kenyan Foundation Owner Arrested For Fraud by pinkheartng: 2:21pm On Aug 21, 2015
One of the greatest challenges of running a service like andiwam is getting people to trust you with their hard earned money. People like Mr Joseph Wanjau make that much more difficult. Joseph Wanjau is the founder of Hope Foundation, a Kenyan charity. Mr Wanjau was arrested by Kenyan Police yesterday for fraud. He started a fundraiser for a child with a serious medical challenge, raised money and then disappeared with the money. He changed his location to Mexico but was arrested in Kenya. People like him make charitable giving seem less desirable. Don't let this change your mind about being charitable and compassionate. There are a lot of good people out there doing very commendable work. We ask you to be check properly before making donations to any cause.

Thank God for him. Get well soon sir.
Nairaland / General / Re: I Think Nairalanders Can Support BRUNO IWUOHA.. by pinkheartng: 8:19pm On Jul 20, 2015
We are thinking of launching a text-to-give campaign for him this week. There has been too much talk already. There are over 1m Nairalanders. We should be able to raise a decent sum. People who want to go to the bank can do so as well.
Celebrities / Re: Actor Bruno Iwuoha Goes Blind, Cries For Help (pictured) by pinkheartng: 8:55pm On Jul 19, 2015
All things being equal, we will set up a text-to-give campaign for Mr Iwuoha. We firmly believe in using technology to solve problems. In this situation, mobile technology provides the most convenient way to raise this money. You can use your mobile phone to donate N100. We have over 100m mobile lines in Nigeria. It has worked everywhere else, there is no reason it can't work here.
Quite frankly, we are surprised people still ask people to go to the bank to donate money. Paying your own money into the bank and withdrawing same is hassle enough. Most people who want to give don't even bother.
We want to use this as a test case. If it is successful, it can become the de facto way to raise money when situations like these arise.

Muna's death broke us all. We don't have but we will do our best for Bruno Iwuoha. He is a good man. Scandal free and professional. You can become his advocate. Talk to your brother, cousin, niece, boss. You might not have to give but the person you speak to might. We can raise that money in a month.
