Try NIOGG (Nigerian Institute of Goalless Graduates)

Do you not have any objectives set for yourself, that you depend on people to tell you what you must do with your own life? Nothing is more indicative of a life without goals than someone who comes on internet asking for a good professional course to take. Do you intend to just become anything?

You spoke my mind there.
I work in HR and see a lot of worthless certifications people carry around.

No focus, no direction, they just acquire paper because they see others doing so.
A person should have a focus and know where he/she is heading before acquiring any degree/certification.

You will see an engineer doing CIPM or a biologist doing ICAN.
What the hell? Career should be passion driven. Know what you want and find the right path to your destination.

I so love this post. If only our people can yield to this advice.

Relative Proficiency courses are just to widen your understanding of basic stuff...! I see no reason a biologist should go for ICAN(Except a decision to change career, which happens, no doubt)

I studied electrical engineering way back..During my NYSC I took up a proficiency course in strategic management(ISMN)...And trust me, strategic management is very useful in all fields of study.

Do not discourage people..by asking, he/she only needs direction towards making appropriate decisions...!

Peace !

horlatunde: . In my own candid opinion u either do NIM/ISMN 2geda or u do ISMN alone cos it is far more educative dan NIM.

Directions for a career path after being a graduate?
No wonder we Nigerians lack direction.

What is the use of going to school in the first place if you can't think for yourself?
In civilized climes, kids are guided on career paths at high school.
It reeks of stupidity for a graduate to be asking people what certification course he/she should study.

Any serious individual needing an upgrade/change in career should go online and do a thorough research in areas of interest.
Anyways, what do we expect from a country where people graduate without ever attending classes.

Asking for directions without knowing where you want to go is complete insanity. I wouldn't even for a second, look at someone's Resume, who appeared to have been everywhere and knows everything. It reeks of desperation, and lack of objective. It immediately tells me this is a sort of person whose life goal is to graduate from school and work with "a company"!

PMP, ITIL will be good.
Re: During NYSC: A Good Professional Course To Take? by Nobody: 2:34pm On Jul 04, 2012
NIM, truth be told, is a waste of time.

Go start ICAN, you will have enough time to study, and hoepfully finish two of the four stages before completing NYSC.

I read Economics, but started ICAN out of boredom during service year in Sokoto. Today, the ICAN certificate, and not the Economics degree, settles my bill, as it has always been all my 4+ years career.

well said, but r we not to put into consideration the situation we are dealing with, i do believe that the hunger to study more is something to applaud, shld one continue on a path even wen the opportunities are not coming at all. I dont think management or project based certifications that hav applications almost anywhere means one is clueless, i believe some multinationals understand this and so recruit people of diverse background....my tot anyway...pls more input from u

WELL IN YOUR CASE AM NOT TOO SURE AS I DONT KNOW THE NATURE OF YOUR PROGRAM.

FOR SOCIAL SCIENCES OR MGT RELATED DEGREES YOU START FROM INT 2, FOR OTHER DEGREES YOUR START FROM INT 1.

THE COST OF THE PROGRAM DEPENDS ON WHETHER YOU DECIDE TO ATTEND A STUDY CENTRE OR NOT (MOST STUDY CENTERS WILL CHARGE NOTHN LESS THAN 22000 FOR A DIET).

AS FOR ME I STARTED FROM INT 2, I DIDNT ATTEND ANY SUDY CENTRE FOR THAT DIET, AS SUCH MY FIRST DIET COST ME ABOUT 50000 WHICH INCLUDES EXAM FEE, REGISTRATION FEE, AND EXEMPTION FEE.

If you live in lagos getting them wudnt be diff as their sectariat is situated beside the Secteriat Mosque at alausa ikeja.

Some of us has finished our service year, go back home and stay idle without work, some of us is still serving and we will soon pass out from national service. That means we will not be receiving alert anymore from Federal alawy. What a sad news! Like it or yes, that is the fact. Of course those that are extremely very lucky or those that are vigilant of the present economic trend in Nigeria will strive to success. Those that will earnestly search for knowledge and opportunity will succeed, those that know the dig dong search strategies will eventually find opportunities, those that are ambitious will find a lucrative business to do and those that are lazy will go back home and stay after to realize when they are old. So which category are you. Are you ready to make a division today so that you can enjoy tomorrow.

I have a long list of self employment ideas, profitable small business you can do with very little capital for free access. you are free to read the contents, ask any question that you need clarification in this forum or in the site. My dream is to help you make it in life.
See you on top

People sha...

Anyways it is known that the average minded Nigerian will never take a step towards vast enlightenment. Hence, they discourage those that are trying. Wait and see the outcome of proficiency courses in those that excelled in the future.

grin@op I think I have the best answer.

What about learning how to repair GSM phones or Keke Fashola while serving?
Re: During NYSC: A Good Professional Course To Take? by dljbd1(m): 9:56pm On Dec 09, 2012
This solely depends on your area of interest. Project Management is a good one considering your course and its relevance to virtually all fields. I'm presently serving and doing Oracle DB training in preparation for its cert examz. Project Management is next. That's my own area of interest. So find yours and acquire all necessary knowledge and skills related to it. Could be sewing grin...hand-skills aren't a bad idea you know
