as i have always say here, to have a rest of mind on any inverter you are buying, endeavor to know the charging current, if you cannot do that look for and electrician that know what is doing, what ever battery combination you want to use, get your current to be ration 1:10 minimum

Marco-P :
Nice thread.
The secret is this, if u want your battery to charge properly then you should buy an external battery charger that's suitable to charge d capacity of ur battery.
I have been using a 1 kva Gioxang inverter for over 3 years now. (I believe that's d name, I got it at Opebi)
I don't have PHCN where I live, so I rely on my 'I pass my neighbour gen' to charge my 100 amp battery using external charger for 3 - 5 hrs every evening. We use the inverter for lights only for about 3 hrs every morning to get d children ready for sch. If I decide to use it in d afternoon it powers d TV for another 2 hours.
Before my 15 inches LCD developed problem, I used to charge my inverter for 6-8 hrs and use it to power lights and d LcD tv for 3 good days. Its worth d investment.
Where can one buy this external battery charger and what is the estimation of the price? Thanks

please can u give me the contact number of the mercury deep cycle batteries you talked about in otigba. thanks

femiolorun: INVERTER DESIGNER IN THE HOUSE RIGHT NOW

having gone thru all the point stressed above, im here to give you reality about inverter starting from the battery

BATTERY
over the years i found out that the best battery to use for inverter is deep cycle battery
especially made in korea or malasia run away from china made but made in china with japan technology is also ok.

those point stresses above never state the kind of battery used, honestly deep cycle or as people call it inverter battery is the best
1-if your inverter has low voltage shut down then you should used your deep cycle for 2years
2-if your inverter has no shut down then your deep cycle should use 1.5year

The above point is on every day useage of inveter especially where there is no light (NEPA) and you depend on generator to charge but if you stay where there is NEPA then you are expect to use your battery more than the above calculation cos you battery will not be on the run most of the time
If you are using car battery im sorry wthin 3months your battery will be dead and dead for life

CHARGING YOUR BATTERY
THE PICTURE ATTACHED IS A SMALL CLAM METER THAT EVERY INVERTER USER SHOULD HAVE, SO THAT YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON ON YOUR BATTERY DURING CHARGING IF POSSIBLE

Many people have use inverter and they are discourage due to charging, the truth about it is that when you are using inverter and it does not last like the first day that your battery is new you get discourage and let me tell you that if you buy battery and it serve you like 12hours, it should serve you the same hours with same load when you charge. But this rarely happen the problem is the charging.
So if you are using 100amp battery you need a minimum of 10amp charger and a minimum of 15amp charger if you are draining your battery to 7.5volt, the inverter battery has been built to accomadate such usage but you need a good charger to charger it back to 15volt(cycle use) this fact can also be seen on deep cycle battery. There you see
Standby use 13.2-13.8 and cycle use to 14.4 to 15.0 volt
Cycle use if for inverter application to which you discharge down to 7.5v to 8.2volt
Also if you are using 200amp battery you need a minimum of 20amp charging circuit to charger so that this and 25amp charger if you discharging to 7.5 to 8.2v
But I’m here to tell you that inverter with built in charger cannot do this charging this, but you will hardly know if you have regular NEPA in your house, but remember sometime that your so call nepa will be so low that charging become difficult and slow.
If you want to confirm this you can get this meter to read your current during, in fact I have seen a charger that is charging 200amp delivery only 5amp, the user of this was discourage and solution was given and was happy
So deep cycle battery with good charger will charger your battery to 15v for just 2.5hours and 1.5hours if its 100amp this is what you need to enjoy your inverter.

Inverter

If you want to run up to a duplex what you only need is 3kva inverter this will run virtually everything in your house with a single 200amp unbelievable if you doubt this I will seek permission to release number to you for those using it for you to have a check, when the whole house is on load together with small size frizer you run for 5hours but in the night when you want to run and load is regulated fan and some bulb on then you will use till day break and still use in the afternoon, this 3kva has be design to run both on single battery and two battery this inverter come with 30amp battery charger.

Local inverter
If you have local inverter that is not working fine, maybe humming or not running your fan, to the extent of burning it, we can give you a solution and you will enjoy it,

if anybody is given you inverter make sure it is deep cycle battery.
if you have already made inverter or local one and you are not enjoying it

AFFORDABLE INVERTERS!!!

5 REASONS WHY YOU MUST OWN AN INVERTER (FUELESS & NOISELESS POWER GEN.) IN NIGERIA

• With the high cost of PHCN bill, an Inverter will help you to store energy for later use so that you can maximize your PHCN power expenditure.

• With the stress in Nigeria, you can not afford not to sleep well at night with light and fan. If PHCN power is not in supply, you can switch to inverter. Don’t join those who risk using noisy and smoky power generator overnight. They are hazardous, disturbing and very dangerous! Inverter is noiseless, fueless, smokeless and not dangerous.

• The savings made in terms of fuel and maintenance when you compare inverter use to that of power generator is very huge! With the ever sky rocketing cost of fuel and maintenance stress, you can imagine how much you will be saving.

• The money you spend in fuelling your gen. on a daily basis for 1 year is enough to buy our complete inverter solution (inverter + battery) of which the battery can last you for up to 5 years!

• By using inverter at home/office, you will be helping to reduce the gas toxins being generated by power generator users in Nigeria. Many epidemic air borne diseases can then be minimized.

Hello house. sukam 3.5kva inverter at the back chargn selectn preference hc or lc - high or low current. which one do u prefer? any issue? nagode
hc IS TO CHARGE THE BATTERY UNLIKELY. MAYBE YOU HAVE 400AH AND YOU WANT IT TO BE FULLY CHARGED IN LESS THAN 5HRS YOU SELECT hc. IF DO NOT HAVE STEADY PHCN LEAVE IT AT HC
N.B THIS MAY BURST YOUR BATTERY OR KILL IT BECAUSE OF THE hc http://www.snydersweb.com/images/swollenBatteries-lg.jpg
I WILL ADVICE YOU TO GET STABILIZER EQUIVALENT (FOR STEADY 220V) AND LEAVE IT AT LC

Nice thread, and most informative indeed. I wonder if anyone could help me with this - I'm using a 0.8KVA Genus inverter and one Simba 200amps battery. I've got a little generator (the 'I'm doing better than my neighbor" type, I believe its called), but it doesn't charge the battery. But the generator carries everything else in my flat normally, a TV, decoder, DVD, 3 standing fans, all (energy saving) lights, normal socket points, etc. Question: what size of gen do I need to charge the battery? Anyone?

bros u dey form say u no dey speak pidgin English, how do u expect 0.45kva "the 'I'm doing better than my neighbor" type, I believe its called" to charge 0.80kva? the inverter is bigger, look for generator equivalent or higher. i mean real watts not label

to charge ur 200ah battery very well you will need up to 20amp of dc current, but ur 0.8kva inverter cannot produce this,to confirm this , check the body of the inverter and see the rated output dc current of the inverter if it is up to 20amps.to get the 200ah battery charged very well and faster get an external intelligent battery charger

Hello all. I just got a 1.4KVA Su-Kam inverter (Pure Sine-Wave) with batteries. It makes a continuous annoying cricket-like sound (really like a cricket, but not intervals. Its not too loud but its clearly audible. Is this normal for the Su-kam 1.4 KVA inverter or is this perculiar to this purchase? Is anyone experiencing similar noise with Su-Kam?

Well mine has that cricketty sound. i feel it depends on the typ of inverter and the sound coming from the cooling fans in addition to the transformer sound

THAT SOUND IS NORMAL. ANY TRANSFORMER THAT HAS INPUT AND OUTPUT MUST HAVE THAT NOISE, THOUGH SOME MAYBE SILENT. WALK CLOSE TO THE TRANSFORMER IN YOUR STREET OR FEEL THE STABILIZER IN YOUR HOUSE, YOU WILL HEAR THE HUMMING SOUND

I believe the inverter is actually 'charging' but with an insignificant current. The reasons are:
1. Your generator is too small. It is well below the inverter's rating
2. Having the other loads connected means that even far less power is available for the inverter.

You should get a bigger generator. As has been stated, the rating on the body of the generator is not necessarily the same as the actual power rating of the generator (deception/advertisement things).
If you get a generator that is exactly the same power rating as the inverter, then the charging time should be approximately equal to the full load discharge time for the inverter if NO OTHER LOAD is connected to the generator.

Since your current generator (0.45 or 0.65KVA, I'm not really sure) is sufficient for your other loads, and you want a generator that carries both your other loads and charges the inverter in about the time it takes for the inverter to discharge at full load, then that generator's power rating should be at least (0.45 or 0.65) + 0.8 = 1.25 or 1.45KVA.
My advice, go for a 1.5KVA generator.
Re: Inverter Users : Lets Have Your Experience by wham(m): 12:08am On Apr 02, 2013
There are two sounds I have noticed with this my Sukam 1.4KVA:

1. The basic humming sound (fan running)

2. That cricketty sound I'm talking about.

And with these responses I've gotten here I need to get a replacement from the sellers. The high-pitched criketty sound is disturbing. The humming sound is fine.

Thanks folks.
