ComputerWarehouse sold Finacle to first bank - What d'you expect ? They've sold the same software to several other banks.
A lot of other companies are simply addicted to Human Manager (Hope you rememeber that software that is used by vertually all Insurance Companies, and almost a de-factor standard in the banking industry)

The list is almost correct, but I do not believe in those figures. They make much more than that.

Re: Top Earners in the Nigerian Software Industry by okmich: 2:28pm On Feb 24, 2007
Guys ,

Una try for the research.

Nigerian software companies are doing fine but they no dey try for these areas

1. No product for SMBs
2. No campaign/training/help/program for younger developers - lets say graduates
3. They are no diversified at all.
4. No corporate community among these companies like what Nairaland is doing
5. No advisory body to help the Nigerian government as IT Consultant. If Nigeria wants to do a thing now, they still will go to Sun, or Bea or Microsoft
6. They have not contributed so well to Nigerian Computing Society (NCS).
7. Even some of their products don't stand the test of time like SocketWorks and their Portals (I have experiences).
8. I cannot believe they make so much and even pay their programming staffs so little. Na only marketer dey chop their money.
9. Branding. - Look at NEPA, NITEL - they still use foreign software.
10. Division - Our Local so called software companies will rather out-source to US than to their fellow Nigerian counterpart.

U all see Much could be achieve personally, corporately, togetherly, Nationally and globally. And until we give OURSELVES this brand our internall success will not last not to even talk about global impact.

Re: Top Earners in the Nigerian Software Industry by mosconet(m): 8:42pm On Mar 13, 2007
that's a very gud chat
well can i get the addresses of these firms
for my IT next year?
But I noticed some of the firms that are actually
doing the real coding 4rm groundup are not on the top ,
Why isn't the time for Nigeria to give room for experts,
About the tribal thing. why do we think dat way , because the
majority are igbos doesnt mean there are no other tribes there!
Other tribes too have excelled in so many areas more than wat the igbos can do
Even, if we are to look at the tribe that has brot so much honour to nigeria is YORUBA
Re: Top Earners in the Nigerian Software Industry by DJNiyi(m): 10:31am On Mar 24, 2007
@Viper
The rest, all "buy and customize" people

You cannot generalise like that. You are bound to be inaccurate and it does a deep disservice to the firms that write their own code.
Re: Top Earners in the Nigerian Software Industry by soladnet(m): 5:20pm On Sep 21, 2007
Not all software companies in Nigeria generate there codes, when issues arise they (thier software) are kept aside (abandoned) at long last by there users. The only company I know with good programers and of good performance is Tokuns International Ltd. They have gained over 20yrs experience, they use the latest data base management system and are prompt with thier customers service, (24/7 customer care). The are real professionals in computerising Small and bif orgnisation with the latest technolgy. This there web address, www.tokuns.com

i was on the search for a software (presumed written by connect technologies - chris uwaje et al) and i have spent the last hour looking for the website of the company to get more information. just does not seem to exist.

what type of "award" winning software company will not even own a site? if they do, and it can't be found, what are they doing in information technology? even the guy does not have a personal site?

I have carefully followed this thread for a while and i can only much of ignarance on the part of many contributors here.
Agreed there are a couple so called software companies that either resells or buy codes and modify. Howver, i must say here that amongst the list there are more companies that develop all their solution right from scratch here in Nogeria.

I wil also want to add that because of the passage of time that list has changed considerably. There are many companies in the top 10 list that are not doing as well as they used to and probably may have dropped in the ranking and many in the lower cadre has moved up big time in solutions offerings, support service as well as turn over.

The company called: Precise Financial Systems list as no 16 then is amongts the top 5 software comapny in Nigeria now. We use some of their package which were developed locally and they currently have more than 8 solutions on their stable. Their support service is excellent which i have not seen in many local software operators, i have experinced so many due to my position as IT manager in my company, but they really stole my heart.

Another company that is really doing a good job now is Progenics, run by a thorough bred technocrats and versatile management team with good products , very good support service and their client base is growing per day

Signal Alliance is another company that has really moved up the ladder with cutting edge solution offering and good support services.

However, the same cannot be said of the so-called "big boys" anymore. I guess thier successes got into their heads and they are loosing it by the day. The like of Systemspecs and CSA falls into this category. Most companies are now dumping Human Manager from Systemspecs for better solutions.
For CSA, how many Banks in Nigeria today are using their Equinox, almost all the banks are either going for FINNACLE or GLOBUS.

For Connect Techonlogies, its the MD. Chris Uwaje that is noticeable in the industry and not his company, I dont know any big organisation in Nigeria running any of their solutions

So , the times are changing fast.

SocketWorks products are all wack. Most time I wonder how they come about such portals. With my little research i have seen guys on nairaland thats better than the whole company put together.

Ralex:

There are untapped resources here in nigeria believe me, Give me two or three years you would add my company to the top of that list. Software is a big thing its use is so diverse that there is no limit to its use.

Expert Edge is a good company but i think they mainly resell , Take Finacle used by most banks including UBA (STB), First Bank. It was indian produced and is being resold here.

As a just graduated student I made income in school programming for people. Programming skills is important but there are some other thing we as programmers need to learn (The only secret I would share here) . . . . we should spend a 6months to 1year learning it.

Seun, your site is fine. I have never had so much fun from a site in one day. Which advise did that number 2 man in the list share with you ?

how far?
one more year wink

soladnet, please check your facts before you post. "TOKUNS International Ltd. is a Nigeria company marketing Data Access Corporation products" and that comes from their website. That leaves much to be desired in the picture you wish to paint of them.

Hi

As at 2005, when this forum was posted, we had developed one of the most widely used TRUE nigerian Payroll system with more than 50, high-net-worth-users across the length and breath of our great country. Trained dozens of topflight CORE nigerian Programmers, earned income that would have placed us in perhaps, in say 5-8 position, in that infamous "TOP EARNERS IN THE NIGERIA SOFTWARE INDUSTRY" Today, we have one of the most advanced and state of ART HR system - developed 100% by Nigerian Programmers - Watchout !! www.multisoft-net.com or www.visualhr.com.

In my opinion, the LIST is incomplete and bias.

E-tranzact is kool even though there services is still DEVELOPING,only that nigerians/consumers need to believe in nigerian made products NOT JUST SOFTWARES, One thing i also use etranzact but they need to step up to the normal (bank)ATM standings.

darznets, pls be sure of what u r posting, systemspecs still is one of the top 5 anytime. cos they r not folding there hands waiting for others to overtake them. same goes to csa, who have more than 30 banks internationally, u dont judge by their nigerian customers.

take note and research properly.
