Talking about Innovative software engineering, the business future of innovative software points towards Xangee Technologies Limited.
They have innovative software solutions needed in Nigeria like their Attendance Recording and Hospital Management Systems.
There are also ground breaking systems blueprints in the pipeline like the collaborative system and others.

Their website is www.xangee.org. Watch out for them!

WHY are Nigerian programmers obsessed with writting code from the scratch? Or feel that companies that do not write their own software from ground up are'nt good companies. Afteral did microsoft write windows from scratch? Programmer be wise- the business of software is marketing.

Yes, Microsoft wrote Windows from scratch. Even Linux was written from scratch. Facebook wasn't built with a CMS. It was built from scratch. Ebay was built from scratch. Amazon was built from scratch.

Of course, you could get your inspiration from somewhere or someone, all the projects above did not build upon ready made code, they started from ground 0.

no my broda u r a litle mistaken, microsoft didnot build windows from scratch dey bought a product caled QDOS from seatle computer products and modified it to MSDOS, and of course u shld knw dat windows is just an improvement of DOS.
Wat am sayin is simple: pls programers dnt try and reinvent d wheel, wen posible i encorage more companies to buy ready made softwares from other companies and modify it 4 their use.that is nt to say codin frm ground up is bad but it cld just be a waste of valuable time, the busines of technology is Marketing, learn frm microsoft

Sincerely i love that phase "dnt try and reinvent d wheel" not coding from the scratch doesn't mean you can do it, smart programmer reuse code, though it might have some limitations but the good is more than the bad of it. Though most of software we market in my company(www.xisysgroup.com) are made from scratch, but new ones that are developing are not from scratch.

a company tht can't create its software from d ground in reasonable time can't innovate.
If you can't innovate you can't lead the industry and you can't exploit trends-your only hope then is acquisition of innovative companies.
That's y Nigerian companies are largely irrelevant in d international scene.
Microsoft writes its operating systems in house.
At 33M+ lines of code,
this codebase is its cashcow.
If microsoft cudnt write windows inhouse where wud it b?(acquire an os company? Which one and at what cost?)
if a company can't create software inHouse it can't produce ground breakg research: think, mapReduce, wave, bigTable,HDFS from google. All this inhouse research has gone on to redefine computing in d 21st century.

I'm not sayg a software company must always write inHouse even d most technical of them acquire other companies but if ur products ar mainly developed by others, your a packaging company not a development company.
In short nigerian software companies ar mainly retailers and distributors for other companies.

The local content policy that had been introduced into the Petroleum Sector could help the Nigerian Software Industry.

Oracle Corp started out or became big by developing relational databases for the CIA.

The industry also requires a scientific-industrial culture in order to be recognised as a contributor to our development.
