EHN EHN....as I was saying, when I say make people have good business plan, Kunle Afolayan is a perfect example. He's always coming up with weird methods all in the bid to make money back and it works! Well, I think. But! First of all, I think he needs to drop the habit of funding his films. Just seek independent financiers, collect your salary as the director and let them worry about the marketing, the profit/loss of the film (like in hoays). Now these are somethings I noticed about his business:

1. up to 50% of his budgets always come from sponsorships, not investors.......i.e. sponsors only want product placements (we the viewers are to bear the torture smh), while investors will get their share of the profit the film makes. This way, he only has to worry about making his own funds back.

2. the guy comes up with distribution methods other than the normal theatrical run. Examples; The Figurine was screened in halls. During the Phone Swap period, only God knows whatever he signed with cinemas, they always screened that film like practically all day - If you were at the theatres to catch fun, you'd just find out Phone Swap is showing! There were no hollywood films showing at "reasonable times" - no competition. Now for October 1, I heard the guy has been doing private screenings for vvips, where tickets costs about 30k and over 500k for table bookings. Afolayan already made millions before the release date sef (but I think this was possible cos of his reputation - well, it all boils down to the fact that good work pays on the long run). To top it all, upon my suffering, you won't believe I bought tickets for 2,000!!! when no be say I wan watch in 3D. The only place where I hear say them dey inflate first week tickets for highly anticipated films na India. Kunle like play like play introduced the culture into Nigeria. HOAYS didn't do any of these; that's why I pointed out on the hoays piracy thread that it is very essential to understand your market. On another note though, maybe the financiers just didn't care about making money back sef...(shebi na govt grant)

3.Apart from the fact that Afolayan is like brand name in Nigeria, October 1 was heavily marketed (well, this wasn't a problem for Hoays in Nigeria). The premiere was aired live on DSTV channels, I think that's first time that is happening. Only God knows how much they payed to have that done.

To me, it's pretty obvious this film will recoup its budget, judging by the strategy.

Funny enough, On FilmOne Website.. it was 1K per Ticket, getting there.. the story changed to 1500. I would have branched at SilverBird which offered same price instead of going that far to watch it.

shebi na 1.5 you paid? people who watched at the "advance screening days (1st and 2nd october)", we paid #2000. I heard the price got back to normal prices after first week though. Everyone I know who watched the film in the first week, has a story to tell about hustling tickets....even some critics wrote about the stress they passed through before they could watch. Na wa. E go take maybe next month before I will try to see it again.

btw, abeg...have they shelved "76" ni? why is nothing heard about the film again? I always have bad feelings when films get stuck in limbo. It is always a sign that something has gone wrong! Same thing happened with Render to Caesar, which looked very good at first.....then we ended up with crap. I'm really anticipating this film, nothing can go wrong abeg! Does anyone have relevant info about this film?
