Very soon Uromi would rival Benin. grin grin grin

I thought you live in Uniport?
This section is right in front of you.

That section is obiri Ikwerre interchange built by AMAECHI 100%, continue deceiving people.

Obiri Ikwerre is about 15 minutes drive from Uniport not in front of Uniport

If the road is complete, why spend $1bn on just a section.

There has been no light at UNIPORT for more than 4 months now, other areas affected are Rumokoro down to Uniport, Rumokoro down to Rumokwuta and through Mgbuoba down to Uniport including most parts if not all of Rumuigbo.

Tell that to your Master.

The way this east-west road project is going, it might end up gulping three quarter of our budget and yet remain incomplete. Why are contracts in Nigeria so overpriced? angry
Go and see for yourself the Uyo-Calabar Road that would be expanded before they start work, do all the taxes involved, settlement of local people, logistics for movement of personnel, equipment and materials, so that you can come up with your own estimates and cost figures and then challenge the FG to Court to declare how they came about that huge amount. As a Nigerian you are entitled to that. Its your country as well as mine and belongsto every one of us. Stop sitting down in your room in Lagos and be condemning and casting aspersions on what you know absolutely nothing about. For once, be a good Nigerian and help us out instead of shouting wolf when you don't even know what a wolf looks like.

Please, those saying that its too much for just a 'section' of the road. Have y'all seen/passed through the said road?

People should at least have an idea about it before criticising.

But what about the PHC-Warri end of the road? Why is the PHC end in a sorry state?
When did you pass that way last? I was shocked to my marrows when I passed Uniport-Rumuokoro-Aba Road after a month of not being on that road, I thought all the cars in PH had been parked somewhere else. Apart from the Aba Road-Refinery section, most parts of that end is smooth sailing even as it is yet to be completed and work is still ongoing. So waht section are you talking about?

Your Amaechi built the interchange(flyover/Roundabout) not the East-West Road passing under it.

Your Amaechi tapped from the East-West Road on that section to make his own road. That is how government projects should sync. That was the same thing Oshiomhole did in Benin at Ugbowo/Uniben when he constructed service lanes on both sides of the Benin-Lagos Highway.

There is nothing special about your Amaechi. Why did he not construct that interchange when the East-West Road was a footpath?

Be objective in your criticisms. Don't be blinded by bare hatred and convivial politricking, those won't take you anywhere, because in the long run, you would be the worse for it.

I don't have pictures of the road but I have made use of it as recent as last year week... Delta end is virtually complete if you take the work going on in the median, as part of it. The same can be said of the Akwa Ibom section of the road safe for a bridge linking it to Rivers state.

The work is largely in the president home state where the road lies practically in waters that need to be either driven back or call have culverts and bridges running through.
The areas sand filled and compacted were being tarred on the day I plied it.

Eleme is where it has issues in Rivers state

Amaechi is one of the worst leaders of this dispensation... I take my time to find out things for myself when I have the time.... For all the resources available to that man it is a pity that he presides over a state that is literally a barge site... Visit the oyigbo and you will weep...

Ask the ordinary people their opinion of him when you get into port Harcourt

Oh yes indeed, stealing is not corruption ~ GEJ, in my travel round the world - i see futuristic looking projects achieved for a fraction of the $1 billion that has just been allocated. Is it Airports, railways or motorways? Travel out to Europe and America then you will curse Nigerian/African leaders.

The depth of excavation is in most part of the road enough to take in a storey building. This is then refilled and allowed to compact.

AMAECHI finished that interchange long before SETRACO got to that part of the East West road.

We who stay in Port Harcourt and indeed Rivers State appreciate Amaechi who is now rated amongs the founding fathers e.g. Melford Okilo and Alfred Diette Spiff. That over head round about and flyover is a testimony to the hard work of Amaechi. This is a man who used state funds to construct federal road to Imo state making the people of Imo to wish to be a part of Rivers State.

Yes. The Eleme section is where I'm interested in. I live at Rumuokwurushi. And I have folks who go to work at the Petrochemical Plant and Refinery.

Why is that section of the road in a state of disrepair and also a death trap?

And if the Eleme/Rumuokwurushi axis of the road is yet to be completed, why leapfrog and jump all the way to Odukpani/Oron/Calabar to kick off another phase of work?

I appreciate GEJ's effort on the E/W road project. But he should please make sure that a thorough job is done on that road. I have been writing about that road since I came on Nairaland in 2005. And for the part of the road that passed the front of my house to remain in a state of disrepair and not motorable is unfair o!

Abeg, wetin be East-West road? Does it connect Eastern and Western Nigeria. Sorry, does it connect the Southeast and Soutwest,or Southeast and Nortwest,or Northeast and Southwest,or Northeast and Northwest?? Anybody with useful info??

East west road connects east and west, south-south and south-east. It actually connect the area that produce the wealth of this country to other parts of the country.

The terrain in that region is the worst in this country. SCC are doing their best.
Apart from the swamp, the road has numerous bridges and flyovers.

The distance is also another issue. It cuts across six states - Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Akwa Ibom and terminates in Cross River

Pity you, you actually missed the fun. Delta and Bayelsa...
Not to worry, just hang around this Odukpani end is going to defray that... Don't miss the action.

Dumpsters, those trucks with tyres as high as a building, gets buried, I mean swallowed as not to be seen unless very close to the excavation area, in some of the excavations while working
It's amazing seeing rivers and swamps been driven back through those excavation and sand filling... Agbarho river was very close to the former Road, it was sent packing

It's not works minister. East-West road is under Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
I advise him to exercise patience and not be selfish by demanding a halt of the Uyo-Oron-Odukpani-Calabar section.
The contractor will get to Eleme soon. I know that part he is talking about.
East-West road cuts across about six states and all the parts cannot be covered at the same time.
