goodluck to all applicants, in my own time its was almost automatic getting placement in the school you graduated from, but now its now man know man... God help you all but please don't be too choosy as its only a year of internship but look for a good place to acquire some basic skills at least in surgery that will help during nysc , i would have loved you going to a general hospital if you don't really mind the pay to get familiar with all these surgeries, in teaching hospitals , its just stuff and sample collection and maybe some assistance to your senior reg etc. All the best..

am happy a thread like this has been created and moreso it's made FP. it would be apt to give my 2kobo advice here & there when needed. Especially for my medical colleagues seeking housejob placement. My first advice is: Be open minded! Don't zero ur mind to ur training institutions or ur geopolitical region. Internship is all about exposure and experience, putting to practise the volumes of stuff you have learnt in school. I for one prefer that you go to an entirely different institution from that which you trained(especially for those who like me trained down south).

of recent I have had folks on the edge calling me esp from the SE & S'S(by the way am from SS though I trained in the SW) whose temporary license expires next month, trying to seek info abt housejob placement in the region where I did my housejob. Unfortunately the Centre where I did my HJ (UDUTH) has jus concluded the 3rd and final general internship interviews in a space of 6months(Ofcus most of the applicants were from the SE at the brink of license renewal) .This also is one of the last centers in NW&NC to do interviews for the year. But like seriously what have you guys been doing for the past 18 -24months? it really beats me.

in luth a radiography intern is supposed to be paid #150,000 but they end up been paid #108,000 per month...the 42k remaining will be swallowed by our oga at the top...Hope you will be in our symposium today....

So my 2kobo advice is, forget the notion the TV and media paints about the north, most of it isn't true. The work environment is better, pay is better (yes, am a witness to that), you'd gather more experience, the vertical relations with senior colleagues is friendlier, whatelse do you want, you have just 12months for the programme. At least I can speak for states in NW & Core North. Forget those ones in the NE, that's no more part of Nigeria(though I have a friend who after not making the UDUTH interviews for my set, took the next bus to FMC Damaturu, and he keeps thanking his stars that he made that decision). Bottom line, be pragmatic, we know there is a logjam in the south already.

my answer is no. There is pay variation across THS & FMCs. I trained in UITH, the pay there is among the highest in the SW but where I did my HJ, I earned 10k more than what ilorin pays

I really weep for this country, these are courses that are always high in demand everywhere in the world. I know some Doc friends that have been inducted 9-10months ago and till now they couldn't get a place for internship. one passed exam at the national hospital Abuja only to be told to get a note from a senator from his state..... if getting internship has become so difficult like this then how about residency? same thing happens to lawyers.... even engineers, it will take 20years of determined effort to set this country on the right path.... goodluck to all the applicants in the house

for current opportunities, am not sure how many more would hold this year. Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kano, have already concluded theirs to the best of my knowledge. Katsina usually does their's in January, not too sure abt Gombe but I know they usually do theirs before sokoto.

No,it varies a lot.For Doctors,UITH Ilorin pays or there about,the lowest for a teaching hospital that I am aware of.Though I learnt UCH Ibadan pays less.most are in d range of

except it has been reduced within the past year, I know UITH pays 20k more than that (take home). Highest in the SW is FMC Iddo-Ekiti, whose take home is 40k more than what u quoted for ilorin. By the way doc, could we be more modest as not to state specifically the pay, pls. Thank you.

Part of the problem is that there aren't enough Tertiary hospitals in the country....something that the Private Sector could help out with.
