Ogun Senators Submit Letters Of Defection To Mark by Shine1177: 4:13pm On Nov 12, 2014
November 12, 2014 by Sunday Aborisade, Abuja.

The three senators from Ogun state on Wednesday presented their letters of defection from the All Progressives Congress to the Social Democratic Party, to the Senate President, David Mark.

The senators Messrs Adegbenga Kaka ( Ogun East ), Akin Odunsi (Ogun West), and Gbenga Obadara, in their separate letters, attributed their action to the fractionalisation of the APC in the state, which had led to the formation of two parallel executives.

Addressing journalists on behalf of his colleagues in Abuja on Wednesday, Kaka, who is the Chairman of the Ogun State lawmakers in the National Assembly, explained that seven out of the nine House of Representatives members from the state have also submitted their letters of defection.

Kaka said, “This is to formally inform you and the general public that we, the three Senators representing Ogun State, have just delivered our letters to the leadership of the Senate, notifying him of our resignation from APC and declaring for the SDP.

“This was consequent upon the fractionalisation in the party (APC in Ogun State) leading to the emergence of parallel executives from wards, local government areas to state levels.

“All our protests, appeals and demands for justice from the national leadership yielded no result. Rather, the faction that flagrantly flouted the party guidelines was given recognition by the National Executive.

“We subsequently did not partake in the national convention, as we rightly believe in the legal aphorism that, ‘you cannot build something on noting and expect it to stand.’

“We are therefore left with no option than to withdraw their membership of the APC after due consultations with their constituents.”

He said that from the registration of the APC, the situation in Ogun State was greeted with series of crises and since they saw that the marriage cannot work, their constituents demanded that they should pull out of the arrangement.

“Enough is enough, there is no force marriage anywhere. Since it could not work, we have resolved to part ways with them and we believe that where there is no justice, there is no peace and unity” he added.

The senators also threw their weight behind the action of the Deputy Governor of the state, Prince Segun Adesegun, who also dumped the APC for SDP, but refused to vacate his seat.

Your lot once said APC was dead on arrival. You had to eat your words. We all know you will eat your words again after 2015

This was expected. Those who joined APC to continue the lootocracy have gotten a reality check. Let them go and join Osoba and his cronies in SDP or whatever, APC will reclaim all the seats next year anyway.

Amosun should be more accommodating with the Osoba faction of APC, no matter how popular his government may be, serving senators and incumbent deputy governors will still have their followers and they can act as spoilers for him in the coming election. Gbenga Daniel and his supporters moved to PPN in 2011 simply to divide PDP's vote and we all saw the result. The national leadership of APC should also act fast to arrest the drift in the state chapter, this everyday decamping is not a good sign considering the fact that PDP is gradually getting united in the state.

if their party is not divided, these one have lost their seats.
if they were in the house the will not a take part in electing a replacement for tambuwal.
If JEGA cannot organize the elections fast enough, the president may appoint replacements for defecting senators and reps who lose their seats.

Bro, Amosun may not be the most accommodating or compromising of politicians but there are folks against him who will never be pacified whatever he does simply because they detest Amosun, for one reason or the other, and are unwilling to settle for anything other than the political destruction of the Ogun governor. There are those angry with Amosun because he will not play politics of patronage and sort out 'awon boyz'. Others remain mad because Amosun received the guber ticket they coveted when he was not an "original" ACN man. There is too much 'oro' that cannot be said on Nairaland but this issue is mainly about unbridled ego against a Governor who, if Nigeria is a decent Country of upright people, should have very little enemies and distraction, going into a general election, because he is genuinely performing and moving Ogun State forward.

I would advise the APC to simply focus on presenting credible candidates to replace the defectors if indeed the revelation here is true. There are some battles you cannot continue running away from hence the reason Amosun and the APC must face and defeat the Osoba faction once and for all. Believe me, they want Amosun's blood and they will not be pacified until they get it or until Amosun becomes his own man and no longer a prisoner to be held hostage by some Senators, Reps and a bitter, egotistical old man who is completely consumed with his own place in the scheme of things rather than partner with what/who is best for the development of Ogun State.

Which section of the constitution gave the president powers to appoint replacement for vacant senate and reps seat?

Suddenly those that defected from other party to APC are saints while those that left APC for other party are crooks...Talk of double standard

One thing you fail to realise is naija polithiefcians can not be trusted, irrespective of their political affiliation...The earlier you realise that the better...

Those from Ogun should know the political calculation of Osoba. He was at the National Conference of jonaTAN hence it can't be ruled out that he wants to play the Gbenga daniel spoiler role of PPN against the APC .

What else did he want? Had the opportunity to present the deputy governor, 2 senators and 4reps yet he still crave the governorship seat in 2015. Every politician should learn from the Amosun saga though the man who thinks he should be worshipped and honoured like tinubu in lagos is now referred to as a joke and has lost reverence.

Amosun Is now running on the back of good performance and popular support. No more baggage bro. Ride on the peoples governor .

This is "funny". If David Mark accepts this and accepts it as valid, then it means the Senate has accepted Tambuwal as within his rights.

What if this is a master stroke of a plan from Tinubu? What if after the hullabaloo dies down, they revoke the decision and move back to APC or is it just me that noticed theydidn't move to PDP and that everything uncannily replicates the Tambuwal situation?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think PDP is about to learn a lesson in strategy and forward thinking. Won't be surprised though - the real politicians have all left PDP for the merchants and "luck-sters"

Yes.
In addition, the Arewa People's Congress, APC should go to court asking that their seats be declared vacant.

No one should compare this scenario to that of Tambuwal. Those senators were not elected on the platform of the APC so they are free to decamp cos the party on whose platform they were elected no longer exists.
