Every first class graduate is an automatic employee of his university of graduation as a lecturer assistant while he pursues his Ph.d. Except he chooses to go get work elsewhere. So there is no he won't get a job. Infact having a first class has nullified all the local juju powers. Again except the guy does not wanna start from somewhere.

Sir you are operating with old information. Due to several factors mostly due to finance and man know man employment is not automatic for first class graduate and I doubt if any institution in Nigeria allows first class students to offer Ph.d straight. If you insist otherwise please support your claim.

I don't see any reason why a first class student should not be able to get job because they'r by default employed as graduate assistant in almost all higher institutions after graduation. At least he or she can still work as a graduate assistant while waiting for his/her dream job (that's if he is not interested in a teaching position).
In the event that he/she is not offered a GA position and had still not been able to get job after 1 or 2 years then he/she has not mastered the art of solving aptitude tests. Aptitude test solving skill is another skill itself that is not taught in school and is not a respecter of first class or second class. You just have to master it.
pls expatiate more on the point you stated above. Is it that once a student should finish with a first class he is automatically granted that position?furthermore, what if the person happens to graduate with a cgpa of 4.and above but not 1st class,he/she liable to become a graduate assistant lecturer?

Its not possible! Do u think its easy to make a 1st class? Even if you crammed your way through, cramming itself isn't an easy task.

The only reason I fEel a first class student won't get a job is, if He/She while in school didn't for once, read, in order to broaden his/her scope of knowledge. He/She might be going with the believe that once he cram it and pour it, his/her distinction is very accertained. Buh lemme make a fact known to you, the case of a first class student cramming and pouring it is very rare. First class students don't read like that. If you're this type that cram and pour, you're only going to make good 2.1 points. 4.3, 4.2, and 4.1.
wrong..currently am on 4.2...
and I don't cram

You would be given your offer letter after graduation. After completing your NYSC then you can resume and start work. For graduates without first class but with a strong CGPA can also work as graduate assistant but its not automatic employment. You would have to apply through the registrar but the possibility of getting a GA position in a fed uni is very slim. however, chances of getting a GA position without firstclass but with a cgpa of 4 points and above in private uni is high. New universities do advertise for GA position and the minimum criteria is a second class upper division

The likes of comments I've read here are rather appalling. Don't be deluded, gone are the days where a first class degree equals automatic employment— you'll still need to prove yourself.

The job market is a lot different from school life. Focus & Reading/Roting right are majorly what it takes to make a first class. However, in landing a dream job, alot of things comes to play, part of which may include: Aplomb, eloquence, professional adeptness, how well-informed and smart you are.

Also, let's not forget first class degrees are relative. First class graduates of some schools might have nothing on 2:1 graduates of other schools intellectually. It all boils down to the school's or department's curricula and stringency.

Either ways, having a first class degree is great, but you'll still need to develop yourself like every other human who wants more out of life.

As an interviewer,u naturally raise d bar when interviewing a 1st class graduate(that's assuming he/she passed d aptitude test phase). Unfortunately, not many 1st class graduates are more informed and enlightened(than their colleagues wit lower degrees) in topics not taught in d classroom. So they fall below d highly (and sometimes unresonably) raised bar, which costs them d job opportunity.
I finished school wit a lower degree grade in mechanical engineering but I fare better in aptitude and I understand mechanical principles and interprete engineering diagrams better than some folk of higher degree grades I know. I knew I would face stiff competition because of my class of degree,so I worked a lil harder 2 acquire more knowledge from other areas 2 give me some advantage. Incidentally, these are d things d potential employer is after, and not how well I can prove d Benuolli eqn or other derivations from thermodynamics, theory of elasticity or fluid mechanics.
