Pastor AIO: @Akin101,
Alas I don't exchange private emails with people on Nairaland as a matter of policy. I've only flouted this law once before because I found the prospect of listening to a series of lectures on St. Paul much too enticing.

However, in the spirit of mutual learning and exchange I would suggest that you air your questions here on the forum so that we can all learn from perusing the matter. If it is of a personal nature at least you know that no one here knows you in real life so your anonymity is safe.

@All, I thought that Idinrete and/or Annyplenty would have contributions to make on Iwori meji. Or maybe some people have some thoughts on it. I guess people aren't as interested in the thread as I've been led to believe.
Could you kindly help me with Eji Ogbe, I saw a citation of it by Awo Falokun where he spoke of happiness.

Pastor AIO: there are loads of dialects of yoruba, and even within certain dialects the different versions are all valid.

Iya, yeye, iye, etc etc etc

Yewande, our mother has come etc.

ore yeye oshun o! Hail Mother Oshun! etc

You will find that my post is coming a year too late. Had to register on nairaland so i can get across to you, i have been researching this issue for years, since it drew my curiosity as a kid. From what i gather, you have a policy not to exchange personal emails with people you meet via this medium. I'd be glad if u could make an exception for me. I trust you wont regret it. However u deem fit is the best way to get across to you, pls let me know. Anticipating your response

Hi family, I just wanted to say its true! I live in America and a lot of us are returning to our nature. Like there is a shift in the universe or something. We are fed up. With the government, religion, the food ect. I myself have been studying the ifa religion and I find it fascinating. I wish I had the privilege of being born into it because I need that guidance. Right now I'm teaching myself it's kind of hard but I am learning. A lot of others have been showing concern too and dropping Christianity. We're sick of the lies. A lot of people are still sleep and unaware but their is a good percentage of us who seek truth and are fighting to come home

IDINRETE:
Hello Jagunlabi

Firstly, i am not an authority on Ifa but a mere OMO-AWO[student]. like I said earlier in one of my replies, Ifa encompasses all teachings of life both spiritually, morally, physically, scientifically, medically and et al.

With the little knowledge i have of ifa, i will like to share and to learn from other guys on this forum,

In western world they always talk about "ANGER MANAGEMENT" to the extent that people will often resort to therapy and all other forms of programme to control their agressive behaviours. to us as Yoruba people, this is not a new phenomenon or a moral teaching that was based solely on other religious sects but a lot of our people do not know what Ifa has to say on this. Prejudice and bigotry has clouded some peoples mind and eyes and have refused to examine or inquire about the teachings of Ifa.

I dont want to bore people too much let us just examine and talk about ANGER---IBINU in Yoruba.
we all know that "anger" leads to destruction and all other vices.
Yes, too much anger but. Like any emotions, it's ok to feel angry too sometimes ***depending on the situation***. For example, if your flight is cancelled at the last minute and that means you will miss one very important meeting (wedding of someone close, job interview which would help you to feed your family, etc). It's ok to feel angry. If you kill someone at the airport because of it or are still very very angry about it 3 months later, maybe that's a bit too much. All imo of course. I gather that some people who may consult their Ifa may have some problem with their anger and lack of patience so the advice would be appropriate for them (since their level of anger and lack of patience is hampering their life and destiny). I'm just saying this so people don't completely repress their emotions when it's appropriate for a situation. If you feel angry all the times, yes, that's too much I would think (all imo).

Ifa !!
Truth is female don't get initiated into Ifa system. Only males se-Ifa (stage 1) and te-Ifa (stage 2). You can be initiated into any of the other Orisha ways, and still become an Iyanifa, besides IFA is central to all 400 divinities. Anyone is free to consult IFA too regardless of whether you are an initiate or not.

I retract my word, females can be initiated into the Ifa system, just that I was mistaking that with another aspect of it where females are not allowed to see Odu.

May the rite conform to your eleda

Happy initiation

Best of luck!

Itefa is the Ifa initiation.

Odu is the sacred wife of Orunmila, the womb of the world, a sacred container, a deep mystery.

Thanks. A friend told me females are not allowed to see Odu. How true is this and why?

Some authority claimed that the origin of religion could be traced to 'the fear of the unknown' or what happens in the nether world! This perhaps explains why all the world's religions have the same reference point in moral conduct. For instance, Christianity teaches; "Always treat others as you would like them to treat you". In Hinduism it is: "Do not do to others what would cause you pain if done to you". Islam teaches: "None of you is a true believer until he loves for his brother that which he loves for himself". Buddhism puts it this way: "Hurt no others in ways that you would find hurtful". And according to the African Traditional Religion: "what you do to others, these will be done to you in return".

So, the "African Traditional Religion" is the only one couched in terms of REVENGE?

I've added quotes around it. First time I'd heard the term. I guess he is referring to a particular example.

So, why is the African one about REVENGE?

Absolutely wrong. Women can be fully initiated into Ifa...only they don't get Odu
Regardless of that, they don't even need it as women are naturally gifted with an Odu - their womb

Long ago, some few thousands years actually when Orunmila spread Ifa knowledge, he married the first Iyaami called Odu, she promised to be with him and her spirit flow through his disciples to enable them understand the mysteries of the universe and change lives only on the condition that no women must see her, this law was carried in Ifa cult even after her death

Actually "African traditional religion" is such an inappropriate term..cus
1. It's nt really a religion, but a spirituality
2. There are hundreds/thousands of ethnic groups in Africa, each having it's own spiritual philosophies, despite their similarities, they each revolve around different cultures and traditions

And that's nt about revenge, more like Karma

I agree ofcourse, I've retracted my earlier statement which was a mistakening of another aspect of it. Meanwhile, why don't you share your opinion on what you think about this video of a housemaid who turns the child baby kept in her care into a beat-toy fitting the profile of those types who will quickly lie against the devil as responsible for her cruelty.
