I read on their site that to maintain your permanent residency you must spend 2 out of 5 yrs there. What of people who don't plan to move yet. If after 5 years I don't fulfill it will my PR be cancelled or can I renew it still[/quote]

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

Having checked the new Ministerial Instruction {Gazette actually, this will later translate to the new Ministerial Instruction} heralding the launch of Canada's "EXPRESS ENTRY",it has not been explicitly stated that applicants without provincial nomination, Canadian Work Experience, etc {as it's been speculated by many} will not have a chance. As a matter of fact,a lot of applicants who would qualify under the current FSW Class will still qualify under the new EXPRESS ENTRY.

What has changed however is the fact that Provincial nominees and applicants with Canadian Work Experience will be given more opportunity to scale the new hurdle first before any other {This has always been the case except that the bar has been raised a bit further up}.

There will be a pool of applicants, out of which many (inclusive of people without a Canadian Work Experience or without Provincial Nomination )will be selected through the comprehensive ranking system (CRS). They will be asked to apply after nomination {Nomination is expected to take place twice every month after January 2015}.

PLEASE DO NOT ENTER YOUR DETAILS IN THE EXPRESS ENTRY PLATFORM IF

1. You don't have all the requisite documents/qualification.
2.Your IELTS is still in Progress.
3.Your ECA is still in progress.
4 You are not sure of any of your details
5 You are not ready to apply within 60 days of selection

As information entered on the EE profile will automatically form the details with which your application will be assessed by your visa office.

Remember, Express Entry does not necessarily mean:

1. Applicants without Job Offers will be automatically disqualified
2.Applicants without Canadian Work Experience will be disqualified
3.Applicants without Labour Market Impact Assessment will be disqualified

It only means all the applicants above will be considered first before any other. Trust me on this one,the 3 categories of applicants above are not in large numbers.

In the mean time, Please

1. Go ahead with your IELTS {with your spouse if you have any} and ensure you score a very high band score
2. Continue to process your ECA
3. Register your details on the official Canadian Job Bank http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/home-eng.do?lang=eng
4. Continue to update your knowledge of the Express Entry http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/index.asp?expand=step1#step1

The permanent residency rule applies ONLY after you have "Landed".Remember, you must land before expiry of your permanent residence visa.

If after you've landed and you don't fulfil your permanent residency rule, your PR card will not be re-issued as 2 out of 5 years residency is a condition that must be fulfilled before your PR card is re-issued.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

Fantastic post. Thanks Solomonwis. It will be wise to start processing ECA and IELTS on time as these are the 2 documents that delay Nigerian applicants.
I remember I started with WES around August 2013 and got the document in December against this FSWP 2014 though I used Nipost all through and I didn't even call my school for anything cos I wasn't in a hurry.
So everybody start arranging your documents, from what I've read so far, January applicants Will be issued visa by June in this new EE.

Hello, please I need to know if those who have submitted this year can also apply for the Express Entry as soon as it starts. If so, what will be the implication? If not, why not? Thanks.

Good one. I personally think the EE will be easier than the FSWP. I believe not many people will have job offers when they are applying.
I was waiting for the EE but now I am torn between remaining where I am now (UK) or moving to Canada and literally start all over again. I need to weigh the two options before moving forward.
I have always liked Canada for no reason but that is not enough reason to move there.

I finally mailed my applications yesterday through courier (DHL). It cost me #21,550! It takes 5 working days to get to Canada.

...but I found out I did not declare any asset or liabilities. I only stated the settlement funds required. Does it affect anything?

Thanks.

Yes its important that he gets the 6.0 point as that is the minimum point if his exam score is to be considered. even though he is only contributing 5 points.

The IELTS result of a spouse who is not a principal applicant is in order for earning 5 points as long as it is not below 5 points in speaking, listening and writing and also not below 4 points for reading.
I stand to be corrected though
