The irony of life. The corrupt villains have sentenced the crusaders. Those soldiers knew the risk they took. A pity they may be sacrificed to cover up the corruption of their superiors.

A number of soldiers have gone AWOL already. Now 54 will be executed for "mutiny". What a loss to Nigeria.

Abeg free those men!!!
Why won't they protest when u send them on suicide mission without ammo.
Money for ammo will be siphoned by d ogas at the top while d poor soldiers are sent to their deaths without thinking of their families.
Corruption in high places and the clueless, incompetent, shoeless man does nothing but look like Sambo

Of course, they are not supposed to shoot at their commanding officers but when you're frustrated about something, you'll forget protocols. These are guys that risk their lives everyday to protect the country from insurgents yet, due to their commanding officers' greed, they're made to face death penalty. What makes you think that they haven't tried various ways to reach their superiors? Have you worked in a military setting before? Do you know what it takes before you reach the main head?

We read here about the letter one of them wrote to the president. This is to tell you how desperate they are. Their hands are tied. They cannot do anything when they are not being provided with weapons, rather, their superiors embezzle the funds meant for the procurement of weapons.

It is very easy to condemn when we haven't been in that situation before.

Then again, this is what they signed up for. I can only hope the superiors note that they are not safe anymore should they continue with their lavish lifestyles while the junior ones keep dying due to negligence.

Although basically,in the military mutiny is a taboo but in our current nigeria context I won't support any kind of killing of an ill-equipped soldiers who over the years have laid there lives down for the nation even in a face of a dire devil corrupt government who utilizes over a billion dollars to purchase arms for the army on the pages of newspaper, for equality and justice to reign this army must be granted pardon or else all politician must be killed.my perspective.

If we can grant militants amnesty, how come it is so easy to sentence soldiers who put their lives on the line for the country to death?

Stop spewing rubbish, you know nothing about the military. These men are entrusted with guns and not only protect themselves from the line of fire but also protect their fellow men. If there's no order, no discipline then how can they conquer the enemy. Shooting at your fellow army men is a treasonable offence let alone shooting at your commanding officer. The laws in the military differs from the civilian world, treason, mutiny and vices similar can never be tolerated. While I disagree with the death penalty, the law is the law and they must face the consequences of their actions!

The soldiers were accused of refusing lawful orders to fight, an offence the military authorities described as conspiracy and mutiny.

It beats me how insubordination (refusing a lawful order) is converted to mutiny and a guilty verdict was passed. It is clear someone above want these young soldiers killed.

(It seems refusing an order in the military equates to mutiny. These guys should be spared. How can they be sent to fight without enough ammunition. That was already a death sentence.)

Stupidity. You try gallant military officers for mutiny and sentence them to death because they express displeasure at being sabotaged, at being denied hardcore military ware to combat terrorism, and at being shortchanged in food supplies and lawful salary and other emoluments, while the real saboteurs sympathetic to the boko haram, the real enemies within, the army generals who are enriching themselves from this war are walking free. The level we have degenerated into in this era is disgusting. And we have a sitting GCFRN who does nothing but move along with the tides, buying favour here and there in order to win 2015 election. So, do you think these young soldiers deserve the death penalty for insubordination?

No they do not deserve the death penalty, they should be discharged dishonorably or imprisoned but unfortunately they are subjected to military laws and Nigerian military has one of the harshest military laws in the world.
