You have made good observations. What do you suggest we do now? Change the hospital? Fly him to India, Dubai or Israel? Hand the case over to another team? Take DJ home?

At this juncture, what do we do? Money has been spent already. Do we move on or stay focus on the observations around a circle?

God bless Tehn volunteers for their unflinching support. Maybe DJ should go home but correct diagnosis is still required for correct treatment. He can be taken to the Indian diagnostic centre at Oshodi if a second opinion is needed and to help in taking a decision on further treatment.

Happy to see him looking good anyway. DJ will be fully healed by Gods grace. Amen.

I responded to Jarus earlier somewhere. There is 4 possible causes a b,c,d.

Tests were carried out,b and c were ruled out, meaning he is healthy in this department, YET hospital sends patient to do further tests for b again. Why

These further tests tended to a, YET hospital starts treating for e which was never in the equation before. Why

Now further subsequent tests tends again to a, YET hospital starts treatment for d. Again why

Why is the hospital playing people round? Don't they have a conscience?

I totally understand your concern
I expressed the same concerns privately
Something is not adding up
It has been excruciating for me reading all these tests upon tests and more tests

Why would a biopsy be ordered for a liver whose ultrasound and CT and LFTs are said to be normal?
What for?
Then they said they found a mass in the transverse colon, plan a laparoscopy but first they decide to do an unnecessary colonoscopy only to find out the mass was outside of the colon
The CT scan should have told them exactly where the mass was located so why do a colonoscopy?what was the indication ?
OK there is a mass that no one knows where it is located, rather than find out where it is,they are now treating for abdominal TB you say
Mind you all the lab tests had normal WBC and lymphocytes which you expect to be elevated in TB
Did anyone culture the ascitic fluid for TB?
And while they are doing all this, what is the plan for that mass in the colon which is still unaddressed
When are they going to find out what it is?

Please ,where did this come from OA4MJ posted it earlier
Which hospital wrote this because this is adding another mix to the equation
They had told us the liver and kidneys were normal so where did this one come from?
OA4MJ,r231 or Jarus ,someone should please answer me

Re: RIP DJDOLA- We Will Miss You by cococandy(f): 11:38pm On Dec 17, 2014
I'm no medic but I suspect that mass is responsible for the cancer cells found in his blood.

God I hope i'm wrong.

OMG, I said if Cytology was done AROUND this dateNov 29th, I did not say "ON", dammit!!! Why the Iro ojukoroju, my posts are still there haba! It's two different words with two different meaning!!! November 29th is "still around" December 3rd, which was the date r231 updated that they said a Colonoscopy was needed! How could a nitpicking pedant like you get this wrong

LFT, etc indicates a healthy liver, so why is a liver biopsy needed for a healthy liver again

I said it could have been done.
Again, this is two different words with two different meaning used in another context/discussion!

At this stage/date, bleeding inside detected, another ultrasound scan detects growth, Colonoscopy detects a mass, Cytology test result states cancer cells detected, etc, and the Doctor leaves the "definite" to treat the "maybe" In week 5 oh

You are sounding like me
This is the same manner in which I wrote my reports to Tehns after viewing the reports I received and consulting with two specialists, one an oncologist.I was on the phone for hours discussing this ,for one I read out the tests one by one because she couldn't open the attachments
So many why why why and no response not because Tehns doesn't want to,they are forced to abide by what the doctor is doing which they claim is in the best interest of the patient.
at a time they asked if I want to fly down and treat the patient myself grin grin
I told then I am not impressed by " patient feels better"
What is that mass near or in the colon and why hasn't it been biopsied and sent for histopathology?
Tests don't heal patients, they are pointers to the diagnosis and when it yields a positive finding, you are supposed to do something with that
What are they doing with the result of a scan they received ages ago?

I didn't even know malignant cells were found in the ascitic fluid,( I read you say that) ,that was one of the suggestions I gave,to do a cytology and check for that.
Now that they did and they say it is positive,is it rocket science for any doctor to know what they are dealing with and that the immediate plan should be a biopsy of that mass they saw.
That is where their definitive diagnosis lies.

If they are unable to do anything else from here on ,they should let the coordinators know rather than running tests upon tests and treating what they feel like
I am still trying to get over the liver abscess diagnosis they gave us

**DJ was admitted November 15th...According to the most recent update, the hospital said four potential diagnosis :- Cancer, Liver disease, Advanced Retroviral disease, Abdominal TB

**He ruled two (liver and retroviral) out in a matter of days. On Nov 27th, blood test reveals cancerous cells...today is Dec 17th/week 5 and update is still stating they are treating Tuberculosis after which they will now request further tests to detect primary source of cancerous cells, etc...

**Luth that he came from was already investigating Cancer in week 2.

**See DJ's last report stating what the Eruwa Doctor told Caracta below...

**And these people are still making it about them, their money, their sleepless nights, their numerous phone calls, blah, blah, blah...

I don't understand why this people are making it about them, the team, etc?? Was it not on this same thread that Olu4life who was Team leader for group A insulted and disrespected and publicly overlooked?? I wonder if they read what they post??

Ordinarily I would have ignored all these but for the benefit of those reading so you dont mislead readers who might took your words for facts. Even though you give the impression you possess some knowledge of medicine, you are yet to tell us that you are a specialists in cases like Ahmed's case or prove to us you know better than those specialists currently handling him. Medical doctors from this site mailed us to give us their opinions and suggestions. Osisi even even took all the test reports we have so far to other specialists in US and forwarded to us their opinions and suggestions, all which we are taking into consideration.

1. You seem to have more information on the tests carried out at LUTH than we and Ahmed have. Please forward them to us.

2. Which of the reports on Nov.27 reveals cancerous cells? We were only informed of cancerous cells about a week or two ago when one of the results of the tests came. Can you please give me a link to that Nov 27 report?

3. The hospital is not ignoring anything but waiting for the result of the Abdominal CT scan that only came today Dec.17th.

4. If TB was suspected and the cost of treating it is not much why should it be ignored? And whatever improvement Ahmed has now is due to that treatment.

5. And who are "these people" that are still making it about them, their money, their sleepless nights, their numerous phone calls? Where is TeHN making it all about them? Our focus remains Ahmed's health.

6. Again I repeat, We are concerned with the time taken to reach a definite diagnosis including the amount spent, and we did inform the hospital of our concerns but we were told Ahmed has to be systematical and thoroughly examined so they don't get it wrong. We have no choice but to respect their demand and process till we are presented with better alternatives. Also taking into consideration Mynd's explanation that test results in Nigeria don't come out in few hours, but most times take days.

7. The reality I have to accept is that Ahmed is being treated in Nigeria hospitals with a lot of inadequacies which is unlike UK hospitals you are familiar with or other part of the world, where the facilities are in place and results are gotten in hours.

8. We already requested for suggestions of better alternatives days ago on this thread and beside your complaints and raising issues we already raised and taken with the hospital, you are yet to suggest to us a better alternative. Do you have a better hospital in mind? Do you suggest we fly him out of the country without a definite diagnosis? Or what exactly do you want us to do that we have not done?

Many of those criticising have no idea of what the team has done.

Do you expect them to mention everything here?

The sleepless nights, phone calls, hospital visits, fights, caring for the patient and his family, responding to mails and sending mails, running errands, etc. It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and type abi?

May God forgive you!

They obviously can't be perfect. Mistakes can be made. What we need to do is point them in the right direction reasonably.

I've noticed the way every team set up here has been rubbished one way or the other...even the team that went to Ewejobi. Haba! It's not fair! Let's drop this habit. It's totally uncalled for. I lost a great deal of respect for some people who were quick to jump into conclusions and point fingers like there was no tomorrow.

This has to stop. If you think you would have done better, kindly indicate interest and join the team or take over completely. Simple!

You guys are doing a fabulous job
I don't fault you one bit
You have done excellently and still doing more
Thank you very much,I appreciate you folks, the time and effort to help someone you didn't know from Adam
Thanks to all the readers and contributors ,moral and financial
My beef is with the doctors, their tests and the approach and the length of time it's taken them to address their own findings like that colon mass
Believe me busybody means well,I feel her frustrations too
Some of my emails to Tehns were just as strong, not out of anger towards Tehns but towards the hospital in some things they have done

Ladies and gentlemen,is there anything in my posts that remotely blames Tehns for anything at all?
Have all my posts here not been in awe of their great efforts towards Hamed and frustrations towards this hospital?
So why would someone working on this case send me a rude email in these words in response to my posts here today ?
What nonsense?
I find this extremely insulting and totally uncalled for and demand an apology.

Sometimes you should have the fear of God. And you call yourself a doctor?

Have i not been working with you here sending you reports as i get them?

Now that we are all here
The second doctor I spoke with wondered why they were dialyzing the patient when all their kidney function tests were supposedly normal.i couldn't answer the question.( I joked that they might be trying out their machine)
They both wondered how a DX for a liver abscess was made when the labs do not support that claim,I couldn't answer that either.
Busybody should have given Tehns credit for what they are doing while questioning these doctors and their rigmarole I will say that
Then when I mentioned they were planning a liver biopsy,we wondered what for?
The results they gave us gave his liver a clean bill of health
I am just as frustrated as busybody

Any patient with a massive ascites will feel better after it is drained
And any doctor should know that draining the fluid is not the treatment
What is causing the ascites in a young man of 31 in the first place should be the focus
By the way TB in the abdomen can exist with other co morbidities so if patient feels better, that is not enough to ignore other signs and symptoms and test results.

If that scan result from eruwa written in ink is correct then the scan result from this other lab the hospital ordered, that tells us the kidneys and liver are normal is wrong.
Both scans cannot be right for the same patient
So which one is right?

For those who don't know,Nigerian doctors and hospitals can be heartless .They have been known to keep a patient and run tests upon tests and milk the family even when they know they can't help the patient any further or can't treat the real cause
So our fears are not unfounded

Nne na wa o

Have we all forgotten the initial diagnosis that had everyone rejoicing was a liver abscess

I have seen the raw lab results so I speak with a little more knowledge,I don't know if you saw it
Another doctor here asked me to send them unfortunately I couldn't find it to Forward it
He asked the same questions we are asking, some pages back
A lot of things do not add up to me and the the other people that saw it especially in light of the diagnosis being thrown out by these people and the treatments they are pursuing
Will be checking the thread from time to time and when I have need to say my mind,I sure will
I hAve already made my only suggestion to OA4MJ
Re: RIP DJDOLA- We Will Miss You by Nobody: 1:27am On Dec 18, 2014
Royver:

That is quite an extensive number of tests.

The CT-scan, colonoscopy and ultrasound scan should be able to pick out an intra-abdominal mass. The abdominal CT scan(if this is what they did) is actually enough on its own to diagnose an intraabdominal mass and even a liver abscess if it is present.

Was a Liver Function Test Done? What about a full blood count? What is his current PCV, WBC and eosinophil count? These are basic tests that would have shown the source of illness if it is an infection or a malignancy that is the problem.

Since I haven't seen the actual results i cannot say more, only conjecture at this point.

This is the post from another doctor on this thread whom I wanted to send the tests to but couldn't
The answer to his question is that the lab tests do not point to an infection so it couldn't be TB,it couldn't be a liver abscess
His blood count ,PCV and WBC and lymphocytes are all normal ( they say)
His liver and kidney function tests are all normal
That was why I suggested a culture of the ascitic fluid for TB just incase the labs are wrong
A lot of his blood work does not correlate with their claims and their treatment and that concerns me

I hope to God the doctors and Tehns are telling the patient these tests being written here
It will be wrong for a patient to read his results online

This is all pointing to the same thing the LUTH doctors wrote on that piece of paper
Their differentials were Chronic liver disease or malignant ascites
we have gone from liver abscess to good liver to possible biopsy of liver to TB to malignant cells in the fluid
Hmm
