Hello Ajayi, I'm a plantain farmer and I won't lie to you the business is highly lucrative if you have someone that would put you through. Aside the fact that you cannot start a plantain farm at this period of the year, there are various factors you need to put into consideration.

Just try to update this thread when the new rainy season start approaching and i will give you one or two advise or better still search for a material on the net.

Warning; you may need a practical knowledge from a reliable farmer before you start. Goodluck!

You can plant your plantain at anytime of the year all you need is water let us be creative and more innovative in our approach to agriculture in fact turn it to agribusiness.

Irrigation system is only good for the protection/sustainability of plants during dry season or where rains are inadequate. It's quite not advisable(for the novice) to start planting new suckers with irrigation system. It's very dangerous in the sense that the land as a result of too much/shortage of water from irrigation might lead to the death of young plants especially plantain.

I believe very much in integrity in business,if your integrity are questionable, then you should.not be in business.

A Business where you make huge profit at the expense of customers is totally unfair and should be discourage by all means.

I believe if you dont know much about something, you need to be open to your customers, you cannot be a jack of all trade and be successful in agricbusiness.

How can a person know all about the production and marketing of cassava, oilpalm, plantain, pepper, tomato, and moringa products.

Since i have started a new thread on plantain, I have actually being receiving threats from some people who claim to be plantain farmers that i am spoiling business for them because i expose the hidden truth about plantain business that they fail to tell their clients.

Even if it means paying the highest price.
Agriculture is my life and my life is forever dedicated to agriculture and i will continue to give out more relevant practical information.needed to help more people succeed in this business.

Please stay tuned as i open up to you on more hidden truths of plantain.business that they fail to tell you

Do more research before you commit your hard earned money to people who claim that they are farmers and at the end of the day fail to achieve result especially people

Find out and visit their farms, inquire about how many successful farm have they set-up and manage to make PROFIT and change the level of the farmers with real and solid proof.

Many of them are around and many will come in the name of being the experienced consultant to rob you of your hard-earned money in 2015.
BEWARE.

Re: Starting A Plantain Farming. by Lesgupnigeria(m): 3:23pm On Dec 27, 2014
I will be talking about double bunch plantain today.
Some years ago, double bunch plantain was the thing in the agricultural world.
You trust Nigeria plantain farmers, they all order for the suckers and before they know what was happen, it was late.

Lesson To Learn: Before you rush to buy a new improved suckers, you must wait for at least 12 months and see the result from other farms before you buy any new variety.

These pictures was taken about 8months after planting from one of the plantain farm i set-up.
The other picture is the yield of the double bunch variety. It has a low yield compare to the other single bunch variety.
Get the good sucker variety to have a good yield.

Simple mistakes made by plantain farmers

1. If you did not get your source of your suckers right, then you are on a long thing.

I have stated with pictures on this thread the kind of plantain suckers to use to have a uniform harvest of plantain fruits.
Losses are made in plantain business because wrong suckers are used for production which after about 10months result into ununiformity in plantain.

For uniform fruiting use the right suckers.

2015 is another opportunity to do something differently from how you did it in 2014 if the result you got by doing it that way in 2014 is not worthwhile.

If you have done it differently, you would have ended up with a different result.

See agriculture and do it differently and good result awaits you.
