You are feeling better and okay does not mean you are now okay because so far so good the hospital is yet to get to the root of your sickness , I know u are tired but you should have exercise patience , going to the hospital from home shouldnt have being an option and I see no reason why tehn team allowed you. People are ready and are already footing the bills and by God grace will not stop till you get better

Have you for once considered the stress of coming from home regularly? Have you also considered the hold-up in lagos? Have you considered the stress of going round for further test? Have you considered the fact that once u are home people will surely come and visit and so deprive you of good sleep?

I have an elder brother that had almost thesame problem with u and despite the fact that the hospital (federal medical center) is just a stone throw to my house we still decided to leave him in the hospital , we spent lots of money , lots of test upon test was conducted and at the end he was fine and discharged , one of the result showed he had tb , drug was giving to him and the doctor ask him to use the drug for 6month , he did and by His grace he his totally okay now

Thank you for your well composed post. We totally agree with all you wrote and share same sentiments with you. But we decided to let him go home while paying close attention to him for the following reasons;

1. The doctors treating him have no objection to him being an out patient

2. In the light of many questions and suggestions here, we think it might be easier to have another doctor/consultant go through the test results we have and examine him for a second opinion. This we know they might not find easy to do if Ahmed is still on admission with the hospital treating him.

3. All in all, if we have any reason to send him back on admission we will do so promptly.

Thank you.

Did the doctors discharge him because he can now be treated from home or he checked himself out of the hospital because he feels stronger and wants to come from home.
Can someone tell us what happened exactly because that is very significant.

Thanks for this response here
But please so I get something clear, how did this decision come about.
Who initiated it and what was the conversation?
Did they make him a follow up appointment( check up)
When and what for?
Is there a discharge plan and what is it?

Ahmed initiated it, though we initially opposed it, we later took it up with the doctors treating him yesterday and this morning and they have no objection to it as long as he will be taking his medications promptly and come for his check up regularly. Ahmed agreed to those conditions and he was discharged today with his drugs and an appointment for a check up in few days.

We are yet to be briefed on that and on the test report they got yesterday, we are waiting to meet with their CMD later in the day to get the briefing and ask questions raised. R231 will post an update when we have it.

Thanks to everyone who has played one part or the other in this life saving endeavour. Una do well gaskiyya.. grin grin grin

God go sama una with flenty flenty blessings. You won't be rewarded with this kind of occurrence in Jesus name.

I have learnt a whole lot from this particular incident most especially when it comes to project management.

The recent saga simply shows that there will always be conflict in any project but at the end of the day (and with total focus on the goal of the project), the project is achievable.

Right from the division into groups and subsequent goals set before them, the execution, challenges experienced, timelines met or exceeded, and other things that have happened, are currently happening and will happen in the future, this experience has opened my eyes further to a whole lot about project management and its effectiveness in any area of life.

I'm sorry if this post of mine seems a little way off mark but I've got to commend everyone who has had a role to play in saving DJDOLA's life.

God bless you all.

It bothers me that there was no opposition from the doctors about his returning home
Have they come to the end of what they are capable of doing? if not why wouldn't they insist on the laparoscopy they had earlier indicated and wait to interpret the result already in their hands ( according to our team) before discharging the patient.
If the answer is that this is now beyond them, why not tell the patient this since Nov 17 or thereabout when an abdominal scan showed a mass they confirmed a few days later was not in the colon.

Kai, Babyosisi I must commend you, you are very patient, even when there was temporary relief and people got excited throwing snide comments at you, you didnt fight back.
When the reality of what you have been saying is setting in now they are still making comments and making you out as satan because you are being realistic and seeing the real situation instead of what we would want it to be.

Now, as the test results are being awaited for a definate diagnosis we need to go back to square one that is raising funds to get him to travel if need be but we are not over 500k short and so we need to start raising funds again.

Lets try to listen and not get excited rejecting and rebuking, God works through doctors. Its because Babyosisi is a nairalander hence the "see finish" do you know how much we would have paid for this free consultancy she is giving? Even involving other doctors.

to be sincere with u, for the fact that a doctor would agree to discharge a patient without even concluding test to know the real cause of the ailment shows a level of fed-up, because we are not owing them a dime yet they allow the patient to go just because the patient request .

my conclusion is that all these while they have being doing trial and error test and have being using that to eat deep into our pocket

recommendation: it's high time we contribute more money and fly this guy abroad NOW

While I completely agree that the doctors have not inspired confidence (it's Nigeria, what's new? undecided), I don't agree that discharging him is necessarily the wrong thing to do. As long as he is medically stable with good vital signs, able to eat and hydrate on his own, does not need any IV meds or other intervention that must be applied/monitored in the hospital; as long as he can care for himself or be cared for at home and will follow up when recommended, he can be discharged home. Lack of a diagnosis alone is not enough reason to keep someone as an inpatient.

I only wish they would have at least sped up the laparoscopy with biopsy to have been done before he left after wasting so much time; but it is what it is now. With that being said, even that can be scheduled on an outpatient basis and he can recover in hospital if needed after the surgery. At this point, this laparoscopy is the most important next step and all discussions should be geared toward scheduling this asap.

Thanks to the Tehn members for the hard work. May God reward your efforts.

What realities ma? What should we have listened to and treat without proper tests?

All the diagnosis that were being thrown up on Nairaland before tests were conducted have been ruled out. At least now we know his kidneys and liver are ok which was the reason people were suggesting we fly him to India and look for donors in the 1st place.

If we had listened without conducting these tests we would have wasted more money. The tests carried out are not conclusive yet but fact is progress have been made and we are closer to getting to exact problem than all the guess diagnosis we had on Nairaland before now.

We are dealing with someone's life here, we cannot run with guess diagnosis ma.

Please don't misunderstand me. I commend all the team has done and know it cant be easy having worked on issues like this is the past myself.

As far as I know you didn't insult Osisi neither did any team member, but when Djola had his stomach drained I remembered someone refering to her in not so charitable terms attacking her for being proactive so much that she had to leave the thread.
The lesson is for us all to calm down and not seem to attack those with different opinions or see them as lacking faith.

Ps I am not saying you wasted money, I am simply stating that we need to start raising more money. Its good so many things have been ruled out, if he is going to start treatment for the final diagnosis we need to raise money.
People have relaxed in giving because so many believed with the flat tummy he was healed. January will soon come when everyone will be broke.
We need to start seeing how we can restock.the finances should he need further treatment

Nne how many battles will I fight? Thanks for the compliments.
I never left this case even when people were abusing their mother( not me) and I will not leave it as long as there are updates on it
We all want the same thing for this young man ultimately.
It breaks my heart that a doctor will discharge a patient without addressing his own findings on the patient but there is a silver lining sha
DJ deserves to be in his home at this festive season anyway
Let them get off the hospital a while ,he has been in the hospital for weeks and being in the hospital has it's own downside with the superbugs one can catch there.( and now that no urgent or even elective procedure is being planned by his doctors ,he has no need to stay there waiting)

I feel for his mom and brother too, this cannot be easy on them.I have had a family member with a protracted illness so I know exactly what they are passing through.

The way is what I suggested. TEHN needs a respectable doctor or 2 within its ranks to be on the ground to avoid these sorts of issues. It is simply capacity building to meet emerging challenges

May you remain wise beyond your years.

Flashback - I repeatedly told Tehn this same thing off-line as far back as Nov 12th at the time they were about to take on this case, but it obviously went in one ear and came out the other straightaway, and now they are sinisterly trying to make it look like it is them I am pointing fingers at with my "baseless criticisms" as pickabeau called it as at this morning, whereas I don't have time for them now or in the nearest future and it is the hospital's charade I am here to focus on solely...

@jbluv55

I know TB was one of the four suspected which puts it possibility at 25%, and when two were ruled out, this upped it to 50%...so my gripe is why CT scan couldn't be done much earlier, why tests couldn't be run concurrently, etc, especially considering the fact that the other tends to malignancy....In all, I hope DJ gets a clean bill of health smiley

Update from this morning post

We have been asking for steer on this case for a while.

Please practical steps are needed

Which way

We need clear steps forward on the following

1. A doctor on ground to help with making sense of all the tests n ask probing questions
This is pending

2.Hamed wants to become an outpatient..He has been discharged but will be an outpatient

3.further tests may be required to identify the primary source.

This is still pending

Good morning and God bless everyone for their contributions. The fact that we have different opinions does not mean we are working at cross purposes.

To be clear, I know for a fact that no one in his or her right mind will point a finger of corruption or incompetence towards any TEHN member. We have continuously seen the dedication and organisation with which they have worked. The areas where the issues are, have been noticed by most here: the dedication/ honesty of the hospital staff in treatment of DJ as regards payments.

While the solution to that ( as suggested) is to have a doctor within, the truth is that no doctor has volunteered so far ( or at least I've not seen any). I understand those in TEHN are just broadly read but may not be in the medical line, so they can only use their instincts while also weighing in the fact that's its a life that is at stake. TEHN has not been wrong on that.

What is wrong is what I pointed out subtly much earlier on this thread. Communication. Psychology of the feeling that others are involved in doing something, of feeling needed or wanted. I will explain.

Without diminishing the works of TEHN and those involved in the project ( who I honestly can give hugs everytime each of them posts); I warned that this project, shouldn't be labelled a TEHN project because it didn't start as one.

Again while TEHN has worked assiduously in front and behind the scenes people have settled into the fact that capable hands on deck, the situation is being managed professionally, everything is under control, we should just wait for updates. This had curtailed the Inquisition of information and the inputs from some others who otherwise would have chipped in with theirs or even volunteered. The volunteers might include doctors or student doctors.

But TEHN has been so professional, that many have assumed they have all the boxes ticked including having the capacity in terms of personnel to deal with any issue. A more open debate of issues as they come up would have highlighted this anomaly earlier, and a solution provided.

Finally, from my experience, any project that does not have issues or ruckus along the line from start to finish has failed in an aspect. Either it didn't communicate enough or has spent more, or both.

We don't have to get a full time doctor who may not be available but can even use nairalanders doing their housmanship, even medical students.

We need a call out for this, Seun can also help put this thread back on front page. pickeabeu1 can help update on this info on page 1 and the current page so that those who are interested in this can quickly see the info. It will be good to also determine which other area we need shoring up.

Sorry for.the long post. I type like this before I forget what I want to say.

Good job everyone.

Can someone explain to me...how can medications be prescribed without a diagnosis? ...I hope he takes none. Bgusybody been talking a lot but nobody listening....just responding based on emotions. Like I said before....when the funds run dry the hospital would declare the tests are not conclusive. I am just sick and tired of DJ being exploited by this hospital and so many can't see it....30 plus days in a hospital and the problem can't be diagnosed? Even if it's a case of juju...within days any hospital worth its salt would declare treatment is beyond them and have the patient discharged...30 days and counting? DJ is not an invalid nor suffering from anything that should have had him as an inpatient ...maybe a few days max for tests and observation. But then why should they discharge him when he is a cash cow?.....to lose money through boarding and feeding? Now that he is discharged they will fill the boarding gap with medications....the billing shall never cease....talks about more unnecessary tests but no talks about results. Because they are doctors and we are not we cannot challenge their decisions? It is this same mentality that allow so called MOG to exploit the masses. I hail Hamed for discharging himself....it is the very reason he cried out for help and now is back to square one. I know he is grateful for the support...but then why should he be wasting away and be unnecessarily confined?...and I know his conscience is bothering him since he knows the contributors are being exploited...but it would come off as ungrateful for him to voice that opinion. His condition is not new....and like Busybody suggested earlier....help should be sought in the North. Sorry...but I do not have sugar to coat my thoughts. For so many that have sacrificed a lot for this cause....I am saying this so that your efforts shall not be in vain. You were the one saying this all along since Nov 10th. You said this (see below), you said more sef, this prompted my "we have all been jazzed comment on Dec 17th"...because one of the suspected diagnosis Malignancy even in the Western world indicates a terminal case where patient has weeks/months left to live...So this hospital has had 35 too long days to tell us if it is or not...

Semitunde, hope you can now see from the last paragraph why I have been pleading since that Tehn is the least of my worries...Moreover Team A and Team B which Chaircover formed had Doctors on both teams(Babyosisi and Wayllihayi), but this was disbanded and cursorily dismissed...and if I show more love to Tehn than I already do, my accountant in control of my finance would tell me to kneel down, close my eyes and raise my hands, then release me hours later to go and write "I could have used that to buy a keke maruwa and register it and insure it" 5000 times on the blackboard, and then come back to frog jump for 10 hours...so please, let's focus on the issue on the ground which is not Tehn but about getting the good news from this hospital that they have ruled out terminal cancer

That's the problem with these medical institutions.....some are like vampires....will bleed every kobo out of you then watch you in the eyes and say they have done all that is medically possible.

"You can fool some of the people some of the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time".

You have said sooo much but at the end of the day, nothing of value was added. What solutions are you proposing to all the highlighted issues? I couldn't find any. We need solutions at this point, the problems have long been identified. Thank you Sir!

I "would" suggest, you kindly read between the lines, go through her previous posts on this issue before arriving at your own equally unhelpful conclusion, and if you still don't get her posts, remember it's a forum she posted on to express "her opinion". Not forcing you though, hence reason I used the word "would".

If the problem has been identified what is the diagnosis? Did I miss something? Shouldn't he then be receiving treatment?....why more exploratory tests?...I can swear a dental cavity test was lined up as well. Suggestion:like Busybody suggested...send him to the North....they will know what to do...value added since whatever they charge would be a bargain compared to the hospital. Thanks for ur advice, we'll taken but let me also chip in my advice to you:

Try and get some basic communication skills and know how to connect with ur audience. It's pointless having any form of knowledge about a subject but lacking the manner of approach to pass on this message. This has been ur problem on this thread and that's why you type very long epistles but nothing substantial is ever deducted from it. Thank you!
