It's all fake jare! They are twisting his words. Do you see Soyinka to be afraid to say his mind? Why does Soyinka need interpretation? What exactly did he say? He didn't say that, pdp is just holding to a slippery wall.
AdeSolution:
Why is Soyinka disappointing me? I guess his life has been threatened cos i knw he is a great enemy of PDP, how come all of a sudden he is now their campaign president? Or the news is fake?

Jonathan since 2010 has offered nothing.! Nothing.. I repeat! Nigeria doesnt need to be ruled by a party of no accurate ideology..rather they rule by try and see! PDP has failed all states...has failed Nigeria! I can never forget number of times schools go on strike under PDP's tenure but APC? Or ACN? No recorded strike period! Why won't you hate ApC when you don't hve time to embezzle money!
Remember Jonathan said he won't stay in office after 2015, and angels have said Amen and if he should re-contest and win... He will not stay in office beyond 2015. Remember Buhari said he won't contest after 2011, and now he is... If he wins, he won't stay in that office.... Then rigging comes to place... Or pdp wins... Then SAMBO WILL BE THE NEXT NIGERIAN PRESIDENT...!

His can you call president rubbish
.what have you achieved
What leadership position have you attained In this your life or life before

Just in case you did n't hear me well the first time, let me repeat myself: What we have as president today is a total rubbish. The man doesn't posses the skills/ qualities to manage anything.
He became the governor by mistake (blame Alams), he became the VP by mistake (blame Obasanjo), he became the president by mistake (blame the death of Yaradua), he became our president today also by mistake (blame Nigerians). Now that he has been exposed, we are committed to putting a total end to all these mistakes. No More Mistakes

The man is not a leader, it is totally unfair for him to continue to degrade the standard of our country. I just can not continue to hide under the table whenever Jonathan is on CNN.

Do you understand what you copied there You obviously didn't get it. What Soyinka was saying in there is that, Buhari is great and all, but we should still extract more from him by asking questions about what he tends to do, since he's not god. So jonathan is dead and doesn't even come a distant option according to the Prof. Go through it again and read it slowly.

Prof Soyinka.
We cannot condemn Buhari as ‘bad’ because of his tendency to trust and think that everyone is like him. That would be both wrong and unfair. But to expect and demand that we should all gladly entrust our lives to a man who may, in his goodness, be less than circumspect in matters of state, is to push optimism beyond the domain of rationality. My respect for the person of Buhari is not diminished by whatever defects of character anyone may attribute to him.

Well articulated prof.. GEJ might not be able to bring d change we desire quickly..but certainly not GMB...

The grounds on which General Buhari is being promoted as the alternative choice are not only shaky, but pitifully naive. History matters. Records are not kept simply to assist the weakness of memory, but to operate as guides to the future. Of course, we know that human beings change. What the claims of personality change or transformation impose on us is a rigorous inspection of the evidence, not wishful speculation or behind-the-scenes assurances. Public offence, crimes against a polity, must be answered in the public space, not in caucuses of bargaining. In Buhari, we have been offered no evidence of the sheerest prospect of change. On the contrary, all evident suggests that this is one individual who remains convinced that this is one ex-ruler that the nation cannot call to order.Buhari – need one remind anyone - was one of the generals who treated a Commission of Enquiry, the Oputa Panel, with unconcealed disdain. Like Babangida and Abdusalami, he refused to put in appearance even though complaints that were tabled against him invol

Obvious most didn't read the article. Sensationalism and outright disinformation at its best by Nairaland and the op. The article actually is no different from what Oby said at an earlier APC convention. It's a gradual process to metamorphose into the political party we want them to be. You can't have a political party of all saints and have achieve issues based politics within a year. Also using the failures of your opponents as a focal point for your campaign is part of politicking. This single statement below by the Prof even nullifies the assertion that the apc is not running an issue based campaign.

Meanwhile, it must go beyond all that and invest in meaningful, constructive opposition politics that will make the people see what it has to offer. Dr. Kayode Fayemi was thrown out for being too civilised and for moving away from the more barbaric traditions of Nigerian politics.

Fayemi did an issue based campaign but the Prof agreed he was still thrown out. So what does he expect the APC to do since the masses who vote are still poverty stricken and would not listen to stories about the integrals of what you intend to achieve when you get there but what you would do differently and trying to convinve them that the opponent is not in their best interest? How do you do that? Isn't it by pointing the flaws of PDP?

Also for all those who have turned the article upside down here is another excerpt that clearly points to the contrary to what you want us to believe.

But let’s get real! It is true that our patriotic General
Buhari is honest as a person. But it is also true that we
need more than personal honesty for anyone to be a
good leader anywhere in the world.

Did the Prof who made this statement forget that honesty is a basic neccesity which any good leader should have ? Thank goodness he attests to such honesty.

It can be argued, in defence of Buhari, that he is not
only personally honest and reliable, but has had some
time to look into the dynamics of our polity and
politics and mature further since he stepped out of
office. The ancillary questions we must then ask, in
interrogating this defence, are (1) how did he perform
in office and (2) what lessons have he learnt since? For
a man who has been repeatedly accused of having a
reputation for easily abdicating responsibility in
matters of diligent attention to general administration,
there is something here for his handlers to worry
about.
All these Buhari would answer when real electioneering begins. Isn't it preposterous that the Prof. is asking such questions now? What happened to giving him an opportunity to express himself before making a judgenent? Or do you mark an exam before it has been written?

All I see in the article is just the personal opinion of the professor. He has his, we all have ours. Doesn't mean he is right and given his politcal understanding and leanings I believe the Prof was being too hard on the opposition. They have done an awesome job returning Nigeria to a 2 party state with their actions and scheming. This they did without the help of any legislations or INEC decree.

We cannot condemn Buhari as ‘bad’ because of his
tendency to trust and think that everyone is like him.
That would be both wrong and unfair. But to expect
and demand that we should all gladly entrust our lives
to a man who may, in his goodness, be less than
circumspect in matters of state, is to push optimism
beyond the domain of rationality. My respect for the
person of Buhari is not diminished by whatever defects
of character anyone may attribute to him. We all have
our shortcomings.

Well said. No one is perfect But there's a bare minimum in character that's acceptable by the society. Someone who declares on national TV that stealing is not corruption can not be said to be knowledgeable when corruption is known even by foetus as our greatest problem.

The comments on this thread has shown that the education of majority of Nigerian youths is half baked and incomprehensive. You need to ponder if our so called graduates can't read a simple article and decipher the message. And to the mod or op who modified the topic to mean that the Prof. endorsed the current administration all I can say is you need a brain reset. I can't for the life of the Prof. imagine him support or endorse cluelessness. It would be an insult to his personality.
