Plantain needs a good land preferably soil rich in.nutrients for optimum.growth.
Good land preparation is needed either manual or mechanical.

I personally prefer using tractor to.prepare the land because it is faster, the soil is well prepared and saves time.

If you are cultivating plots of land, manual might be the best for you but not advise to.use manual labours on large hectares of land.

After this the second stage is to source for your suckers to plant.

I will show you the 2 types of suckers you can use and the best one for you to make good profit.

Before plantimg is done
Hole is dug of about 10-15cm below the ground surface.
This can be done 2 days before planting.

Suckers are gently lower into the hole and covered.

It is watered 12-24hours after planting with subsequent watering at every 2 days interval.(3 times in a week)

Good morning my people.
So let me start today by telling one of the successful stories of a friend who i help set-up a plantain farm some years ago and he is now making a lot of money from this business.

He approached me precisely February 2010 that he just acquired a 3 plots of land and he was thinking of starting a plantain farming.

I advise him on how we can source for labours, planting methods, best markets to supply and other operations needed to get started on a successful note.

After 1 week of given advise and strategising about how to go about it, i got to the field to start implementation of the plans.

There is no greater joy that fills your heart when you are able to make success out of people which is incomparable to any financial gains.

This is one of the story of the power of starting small.and never losing focus.

I started by arranging for Workers to carry out the manual clearing.

This is because of the small area of land is involved.

If you are cultivating acres of land, its not advisable to use manual workers, tractor is preferable.

I will be showing you later in my articles the advantage of making use of tractor with another success story of another plantain farm with pictures.

You have got to stay connected to this thread as i will be downloading all that you need to know for a successful plantain farming in 2015.

Harvest time.

You can make profit of 60% ROI from plantain farm.

You can make more than that if mechanised.

I will be explaining later on this thread challenges you can face from sucker selection to planting to marketing and how you can overcome it.

THE USE OF A GOOD SUCKERS

The type of sucker you.make use of can make or mar your plantain farming business.
I have seen a lot of suckers being use by plantain farmers, reason why most of them do not have result to show for it.

If you are actually serious about making good profit, then you need to source for good suckers.

From my experience, what i have seen 90% of farmers use is the suckers in the first picture.

The disadvantages of the suckers in the first picture is that it takes longer time for it to start bringing leaves meaning that time of harvest will.be between 12 to 14 months before harvesting.
The farm is also susceptible to disease infestation and the suckers from the next generation can not be use to set-up other farms. If you try to use them on other farms, you will be transfering diseases which might destroy the other farm.
I have seen plantain farms worth millions of naira being destroy by disease because of wrong suckers used.

Also there is always not uniformity in the growth of the plantain.
The suckers i used for the plantain farm i showed you above was treated with fungicides and if you notice very well from the picture above, you see that the growth of the plantain were not all that uniform.

The suckers in the second picture is the best and if you want to have a successful and profitable plantain farm,my advise is to use this type.

I used the second type of suckers in the pictures of the 20acres of plantain farm i show you previously on this thread.

I am even very happy for this man because 100% bumper harvest and profit or even more is guaranteed.

I will show you later on this thread how you can produce this type of suckers for your farm

I have seen a lot of analysis on plantain farming thats states that if you plant 1000 suckers, you should expect 5% of the suckers will.not grow.

Yes,they are right and i know the reason why it is so (because they make use of the wrong kind of suckers on the field.)

Using uniformly propagated suckers (the second picture of suckers above),then you can be guaranteed of 100% uniformly growing plantain and attain 100% plantain harvest stands with maximum revenue.

Hello sir. I have a plantain farn already. I am trying to raise money for weeding. Am really concerned about the health of the plants. The farm is about 3 months now and i have not been watering cos of distance and finances. What do u recomend ?

Firstly, the time you planted your plantain is not the right time to plant.
From what you stated, you planted in October.
To plant at that time of the year, you need btw 2-3times/week of watering of the plantain.

To reduce cost of production, make use of herbicides to control weeds.
i will elaborate on the kind of herbicides you can use later on this thread.

When last did you water it?

How many acres of land is the farm?

where are you based and where is your farm located?
