Can't one use a thermostat on double?

basisop: Can't one use a thermostat on double?

A thermostat must NEVER be removed from the engine. Besides, the thermostat is located on the engine, so it doesn't matter what radiator is fitted. The thermostat isn't a hindrance.

Nah.
If you get into Kudirat from Awolowo end, Morrison is the first street on the right, after Mobil

I don't know why Nigerian Mechanics love removing thermostats, and changing radiators. They did that to my AC condenser too, told me the one that came with the car was made for European climate that's why my AC wasn't chilling. After fixing the "big" condenser, it seemed to be cooling more till my compressor knocked that same evening angry I WAS MAD AS HELL
I then visited a professional who said I had to buy a new compressor. He sent me back to my old AC guy to collect my old condenser before fixing it back and throwing the new one in the garbage.

Moral of the story, put square pegs in square holes, I think grin

And I forgot to say the water reduces even when the car is not in use like if I top it in the morning without even oning it or using it and the radiator is not leaking

Bro, when I hear about thermostats being removed, and the much fabled "double cell" radiator being fitted, I get pretty annoyed. And to be honest, you guys feed these phoney "mechanics" with the ammunition with which to fleece you. A coolant reduction means a leak -

Exterenally:

01) Radiator.
02) Associated hoses.
03) Thermostat housing.
04) Engine block (core plugs).
05) Cylinder head (core plugs).
06) Water pump.
07) Heater core (behind dash).

Internally:

01) Cracked cylinder head.
02) Cracked cylinder block.
03) Warped cylinder head.
04) Blown cylinder head gasket.

I wonder how replacing the factory radiator with a "double cell" unit, and removing the thermostat will solve coolant loss? You're simply throwing money at your car, via your mechanic, who's just going by trial and error, replacing parts randomly, AT YOUR COST. If I were you, I would bite the bullet, and take your car to A REPUTABLE HONDA GARAGE. Sure, they'll cost, but at least you stand a chance of getting your car fixed.

As it stands, you might as well pour your money into a blast furnace, and watch it BURN.

Hello bro, pls can I get the contact info of the ac technician mentioned above? I have a similar problem. Thanks

Good morning peeps, I drive a mazda 3 2005 and noticed that the ac started making a whining sound when switched on, it was still cooling well. I got a technician to look at it and he said the compressor is faulty and this was caused by a bad condenser. He's suggesting replacing the present radiator with a double cell radiator which I dnt agree with. Can anyone please recommend an ac technician who knows his job and doesn't do the usual "double cell solution" as is common with other technicians. Also, can the condenser be repaired.

Thanks.

Sorry I didn't see your request earlier. My A C guy probably doesn't live in the same town you do, I'm sure you're in either lagos or abj

What I'll advise you to do is suck it up and visit the best Auto A C shop in town without fear of the cost. Those roadside guys could leave you coming back to fix one thing or the other till you hate your Car.

whining is caused by a worn out bearing, why would the radiator cause the whining ?
Re: Changing The Radiator Of Your Tokunbo Car From Single Cell To Double Cell by Nobody: 3:05pm On Dec 15, 2012
As the whining only occurs when the aircon is switched on, I'd say it's a worn bearing, either in the compressor, or the condenser fan.

Have the compressor drive belt removed. Then switch the aircon on. If the whining doesn't occur, then you know it's from the compressor bearings.

Nigeria car owners really need to be educated. I can't understand why a thermostat should be removed from an engine. My mech wanted to do the same but I stop him and educated him more on the duty of a thermostat.

A thermostat is like a temperature monitoring switch, which comes ON and OFF as temperature changes.
If You have Electric Iron, have it plug in an electric current and you will feel/hear thermostat on duty. Its very interesting the way this device works, you don't need to manually turn OFf the Iron when it gets too hot or On wen too cool , it just turns itself Off or On depending on temperature.
Not only Iron, a Refrigerator, an Air conditional, an Elect Kettle even any Generator wit a radiator, all has thermostat. Without a thermostat in your house Aircon the compressor will over work itself, heat up and probably get burnt.
Nowadays, our technicians are even installing an external fan for a refrigerator's compressor.
If a car is over heating I don't think removing thermostat should be the solution
Re: Changing The Radiator Of Your Tokunbo Car From Single Cell To Double Cell by captalex(m): 5:00am On Apr 12, 2013
All i needed to do was to drop a little bit of water on the fan belt and the noise stopped.

Really, I was having issues with my cooling system, as my camry was always turning off once my temp guage reached the half way mark. My car was always easily overheating. But honestly, a friend suggested the thermostat removal and I did it. Now my car doesn't easily overheat. For me thermostat removal worked. I also noticed that once I put on the airconditioner, the temp guage signifantly rose and now I am considering changing my radiator to a double cell radiator.

Well, I am aware of the age of this thread and have read every single post here. Though I an an active nl user, I came by this page via Google as I endlessly seek a solution to my car's over-heating troubles.

It is a 2000 model Infiniti G20. The temperature needle begins to climb above the middle area and even threatens to hit the roof after 60 to 90 minutes of driving with the a/c on- usually in hot afternoons. But as soon as I put the a/c off, the temperature begins to return back to the mid point. This has kept me looking for answers everywhere. Please help me.

Basic facts:
i. The fans are working (I have now connected them directly to forestall any 'eventuality')
ii. The Radiator remains filled. Reservoir coolant level is consistently at 'max' level.
iii. My radiator is single cell.
iv. This only happens when the a/c is on and outside temperature above 30°.
v. The car is an auto transmission
vi. The radiator cap is not leaking.

Siena, Nissparts, Trac, Fatai2, excolanto, and all car enthusiasts in the house please come in and show some help.

Siena:

The only reasons your engine would boil with the thermostat replaced, is if there's an underlying issue.

* Thermostat is faulty (stuck in the closed position).
* The thermostat was incorrectly fitted.
* The mechanic did not bleed the system after replacement. Of course this would be better for him, as it would prove to you (the owner who dared insist he replaced it in the first place) that he was right. And of course you'd be convinced he knows his job, and wouldn't question any decisions he made with regards your car in the near future.

Your a guru that I must respect but I will want you to know that nobody is all knowing ...I have a Nissan and I did what is called tropicalization

That is removal of termostat and connect fan directly to engine ....you can't use the same temperature of cars I in Canada and use it in Nigeria without tropicalization

Now let mW make it clear to you and all of us car owners here

Thermostat functions as a temperature regulator in temperate world it heats the engine due to the sub zero level and picks the fan . This happens ..even over there you don't need a fan to Cook the engine becuase the environment is cold very cold

But when you bring such cats here where the place is hot and tropical climate

You have to remove the damn thermostat and connect the fan direct to avoid over heating
That's what is tropicalyzation

This is indeed bullshit. Tropicization my foot. A quick question, in cities like Windsor Ontario, do they change their radiator to double cell and remove their thermostat in the summer? Because in their summer their temperature gets as high as 28 ℃. Also during the summer in Arizona USA, their temperature get as high as 35℃, that is hotter than the temperature in kano, do they also change their radiator and remove thermostat? Car manufacturers test their cars with extreme weather conditions before putting them on the market.

I drive a 2005 Honda accord that was imported from Canada and I don't dare remove the thermostat. I have the factory single cell radiator and been driving it for 3 years now without any problem. Oh and I never bypass my cooling fans. It is a joy to watch the temperature meter rise to the optimum temperature within 2 mins after starting it in the morning. Engines are meant to run warm and can only perform when the temperature is at optimum. Using a double cell radiator and removing the thermostat will make the engine run colder for longer period which is not good for the engine. If u are experiencing overheating, the best thing is to fund out the culprit rather than removing thermostat all in the name of tropicalization.
