I think the pastor obviously forget he was among the congregation. Often times I've heard pastors divulge such secret information in the cause of preaching and still maintained anonymity like leaving out the name, date and particulars of the person. In my own opinion this isn't appropriate because it gives hint sometimes and some of the people in the congregation are able to guess the actual person correctly. For other reasons it shouldn't be made reference to whilst preaching like in this instant case, it tends to make the object feel uncomfortable.

Well, I̶̲̥̅̊ knw it makes the person feel uncomfortable for a minute, but because his name was nt mentioned he shoudnt feel exposed. We all do this when trying to make someone understand. Professionally, doctors, engineers, etc, do it to make their patients/clients understand. M guilty too in broadcasting when trying to make my listeners understand a topic. As long as his identity is hidden, he shouldnt feel bad.

The pastor suffers from leaking mouth syndrome,
it matters tht he said it and acted foolishly.
The effct is tht the broda will feel resentful and disaffected and embittered by tht foolish move of the pastor.
He wud hav a low opinion of pastors and it cud affect his relationship with God,all because some mumu cudnt keep shut wen he was suppose to.
The only time it is permissible,is wen d subject is not in d same locality and/or the event happened at a much earlier date.

something like that happened at a Baptist church in ogbomoso while I was an undergraduate.. there was a married woman in the church who apparently has dated a guy in their university days..and later the guy became a Reverend and was posted to the same church the woman and her husband worshipped.. maybe due to conscience, the said woman went to meet the senior pastor in the church and confided in her only for the senior pastor to ask both the Reverend and the woman to stand up during the next service and he spilled everything right there...but the shocking part of the story was that the lady fought back and claimed that she has slept with the senior pastor too so many times.. nobody really knew if it was true or not but this issue affected the church and lead to mass transfer and exodus from the Church

Hmmm, a venomous woman and a self-righteous senior reverend i.e. if the man of God was going to ruin her marriage, she would ruin his career as well.

However, i would suppose that the woman's husband must have had prior knowledge of the secret. As for the reverend, what he did was totally wrong.

Most pastors do that so that others can learn from the experience, but will not mention the name.

I have experienced it, went to one church and the pastor while preaching, mentioned how he went to one house that Sunday morning and perceived beans, that it's funny for people to eat beans on a Sunday morning, and he went on about the glamorous life he lives with his family that I felt so ashamed and he had no job or business other than being a pastor. Turns out the member he was talking about is someone he made a deacon because of his huge monetary donations which unfortunately had stopped at that time because he lost his job and most of the congregation knew he visited him and his family that morning. That was my first and last day there. I wonder how he keeps his members.

This is not the first time I'm hearing something like this, some people are just too ill mannered with lack of respect for confidential matters and being a pastor just doesn't change it. I hope your friend learns from this and not continue giving him undue honour just because he is a pastor.

You are a liar. Doctors dont do it. It is ethically wrong for any doctor not to be able to maintain patients confidentiality. If Ben Carson did it, it does not mean it is right. Just imagine a gynaecologist who can not keep his mouth shut because he is with his guys!

Are you a lawyer? The last time I was in court, they work with facts and prove, and the question is can the OP prove his case beyond reasonable doubt? That his name was made measured off by his pastor? You dont just comment on thread just for commenting sake, sometimes you have to think outside the box!

Rule of the thumb ; never share you secrets with a pastor except he is also a friend and has over time depicted the qualities of integrity and ability to keep secrets.
