Interesting I am surprised, I would have never expected differently lol

Plus stereotype never helps. Like 'Hausa' never leaves nigeria etc etc.

True but I am not going to lie I thought at one time that Hausa's don't travel out very much

Lol its true, most of the 'nigerian' functions doesn't involve hausa's. Jus like nollywood doesn't involve hausas and Naija music. Etc

Lmao... So they're basically a different country/people within a country. Interesting.

I actually like them and their temperament - not loud, gentle, humble, and easy going people.

I am Hausa from republic of Niger ,living in United states for over 8 years. I've met lot of Nigerians, and none of them believed me when I said I am Hausa.
They said my accent doesn't sound west African.

In my apartment complex ( Indianapolis) ,there are some Yoruba next door, and they never knew that my wife and I are Hausa til they heard us speaking Hausa . One guy was like
" are you Hausa ?",and I said yes ,we are Hausa from Zinder- Niger ...lol
They confused us with Sudanese or Somalis, because of the way my wife dressed and our accent.
There are lot of Hausa in United states, you have to go to mosque to meet them, and if you ever doubted seeing one,you might confuse him/her to Sudanese, unless you ask his/her nationality.
For reference purpose

This is about The UK, no AAs there but I never knew Hausa's and fulanis mingle with AAs alot in the US, I heard they even separate themselves from other Nigerians as well at least in the US.

there are Hausas in the UK but i think most of them are rich (ie from rich backgrounds perhaps) and so dont really hustle like regular nigerians there.

so, they wouldnt be interacting too much per se, i assume they'd likely have more socialization with middle eastern countries or north central africa.

Interesting topic. One very important thing is yea a typical hausa person will hardly do any dodgy thing or go to whatever length just to get a UK or US visa. Believe me maybe like 98% of them (or maybe even more) in the UK or US live there legally. Plus they so much love their home so they wouldn't go somewhere and never come back to their family.

I read this article and I found it interesting, so I wanted to hear what people's opinions are about it when it comes to Hausa's abroad

UK, is majorly a christian state, if you wanna see hausa- fulani try, Qatar, UAE, Saudi and much recently Turkey
How many times have you visited Saudi as a supposed christian?

Beautiful thread. I'm H/F but I have been told I look Kenyan or Somalian, but never Nigerian; which could explain why you might miss us. There are lots of Hausa's in the UK - especially around Birmingham, Manchester, Pompey and London, however our quiet ways make us less conspicuous, and the tendency is that you hardly find a hausa person who went to 'hustle' in the UK. In fact, the impression over here is if you're Hausa, you're loaded. Ask the Zim girls wink

In my entire 14 years in education sector in southwest i had 1 hausa/fulani in my class but there were tens of thousand of them in the city.

Simple: They're local champions that thrive in lawlessness and disorder, the kind seen in Nigeria. They get claustrophobic in organized societies with actual laws and regulations so they don't bother making the trip. Countries like Yemen, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are more likely the places you see them vacationing to.

Why should an average Hausa-fulani man travel when there is a ready job available for him after his schooling. A check on most of the hausa-fulani guys you did NYSC with wil show you that 90% are working in a govt parastatal.

They despise secular life but live worst lives!
You want to see them en mass abroad? Go to Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan to mention but a few.
Ironically the 'goods' they ship in, is terrorism.
