Hello House! This story maybe long but i plead u to hav sm patient and read through it. (Its happening to a colleague and a friend of my now)
.
I was employed by this PVC pipe Company 4months ago, leaving my formal place of work without full knowledge dat my Boss (now) is a gud friend of my formal Boss. I left my formal place of work 6months into my employment with dem, that is when i was due for confirmation of my appointment.
.
My major reason of leaving was because i wanted to go into my field of study i.e. Manufacturing and Production as a Chemical Engineer. Which i saw the opportunity with my current employer. During negotiations with Director, wen he enquired to know how much i am being paid where i was I told him N90,000 (not actual figure), though my salary as at dat period was N50,000 (not actual figure). Reason for this was because since i was due for confirmation in d other company, and my salary would be reviewed which will then come close to N80,000. So i told him N90,000, before we started negotiating the salary. During this negotiations, he requested for my pay slip from the previous month. Which i promise to bring it and then we nkw agreed on a gross salary of N70,000 (not actual figure). Few days later after conducting Reference check he called me to put in my resignation in my place of work, and come and work with them, which i did and started work 1month later.
.
Few weeks later he continued desperately demanding for the pay slip, and my illegibility to produce any was causing problem, i then opted into drafting 1 by my sef and gave him. Now 3months has passed, we resumed work on 5th January 2015, and on 7th January i was served a query to explain d discrepancies btw d pay slip i gave him and 1 he obtained from my Ex boss (His friend) bearing d gross salary of almost all d workers in my formal company during my days with dem, which he attached to d query. After replying the query stating dat d said discrepancies was as a result of an increase in my salary upon confirmation from my formal employer on d month i left dem to his company. So d salary he saw on d salary sheet my ex-boss gave him was before the completion of my probation, which i also showed him wia it was stated on d appointment letter from my formal employers.
.
Just yesterday, wen i approached d Admin. Manager to enquire d progress in my case, he told me dat the Director isn't going to sack me, but asked him to serve me a letter which has conditions which i guessed should be for Pay Cut. Though i am yet to receive d letter dis morning. So my question is dis 'What do u advice i do if i am presented with d letter today demanding for a PAY CUT?'

Why is your boss so particular about paying you a salary figure close to what you were earningin your previous place of work. He should have his own bechmark. That being said, you did wrong by falsifying the payslip you gave to him. The major reasons a lot of people switch jobs is to look for one that is favorable to them. You should have just explained the situation to him, including the fact that you were to be confirmed soon with an increased salary in view. Then let him take his decisions from there. If the outcome didn't suit you, you should have politely rejected the offer and stuck with your previous job.

Yeah! u re ryt, everything was done den out of desperation. And to kill it, d forged pay slip murdered it. Nevertheless now, what wud u advice d guy to do on dis present situation? cos it's definitely gonna be a pay cut which may be below what he was gonna earn d formal place had be collected his confirmation letter and stayed with dem.

Let him try to politely reason things still with his boss and hope he understands. If things still don't work out, his best bet would be to accept the offer and move on with life. The alternative isn't too nice.

He is not happy dat d nigga left his company to his friend's. Though he neva knew d re friends shaa. So he probably wants to punish him cos he left him even wen d offered additional 10k to him he turned it down telling dem dat his intention to leave wasn't money motivated but career.

In a 3rd world country like this with peoples backward mentality, you do not jump from one employment to the other where the owners are acquaintances, it will backfire.

Rewind to 2005, our Stockbroker who was on N125k per month got a dream job with a PLC listed financial giant with a net pay of N450k . Our Firm MD who happens to know the Bank Chairman and CEO jestingly told them at one of their social gathering at Metropolitan club that "they have taken the only Stock Broker available to trade for him". The guys matter was handled immediately and he was given a tough account to manage, to cut the story short, in 3 months the guy was sacked and lo he came back to our one-man-controlled-firm, guess what, the MD cut down his salary to N75k on the ground that he is now an industry reject.

I learnt from that episode, when I was ready to move on, he requested for my employment letter but I vehemently refused. He also knew the board chairman of the institution I was heading to then. For over 2 weeks he was on my case to know the exact place I was heading to. After serious prayers an idea came to me and I gave him the name of another bank with similar sounding name. He refused to pay me off but I walked away.

Instead of paying you based on your value added services, he is choosing a demoralizing option, don't be too settled there, be on the lookout for a more standardized work environment. Best of luck

For me, its good to be open and truthful with such things.....
The deed has been done, it would be shameful to go back to ur former place of work, & working in ur present office , ur boss may not trust u again, to me that's disturbing.. ( so resigning honourably would have been the best due to the guilt)

But instead of going back to ur former place, of which he may not accept u back, u should accept the salary cut so far it's not below what u used to earn b4. That's the price u pay 4 dishonesty.

U remain there till u get a better place, but this time around, b honest & learn from ur mistakes...

It's high time we stopped negotiating our pay based on our last pay, but based on what we have to offer to the organization. And this things should be confidently stated in interviews. You clearly ask why they need your last slip et all.

I went to an interview and the MD wanted to compare my demanded pAy with what Lagos state workers earn. I told her if I wanted a Lagos state job and pay,I will hv applied there. Lets stop making interviews a one man affair, it's meant to be a discussion btw two pple that want to work together.

Aint no jobs out there bro. I hope everyone here has learnt their lesson as to the importance of integrity.

There are no saints anywhere, but going as far as forging a document is a NO NO. At a point, the company expects you to grow to handle bigger responsibilities and they wont give it to someone they don't trust.

Even if you wan do ojoro, do the one you can reasonably defend. This your defence get k-leg.

Just like someone suggested, stay with them for now, but be on the lookout for something else. The prospects for growth are also lower, especially now that they cant completely trust you.

My dear little, kind ,and misguided, and lovely friend.

This is not the political thread....this is an advice thread.

I kindly ask that you either delete this post....or give the OP your valued advice.

Oh and.....stop being so full of such negative feelings. They do not help you.

@op...Lionelnkem's article is the best advice....as for me....I would suggest that you eat humble pie....and go back to your former place of work.
