For those still in doubt about the real Muhammadu Buhari, here he's. Banning the press because they embarrass a public official in a democracy as is crazy a thought as the man who contemplates it.

No one who is well vested in balanced history of Nigeria and believe in democracy will support Buhari unless for selfish reasons.

If embarrassing a public officer is his reason for descending heavily on the press, then GEJ would have banned Nairaland and many other media outfits.

God bless GEJ for his tolerance.
God bless Nairaland forum.
God bless Nigeria.

In a style akin to the dark days of the military junta in Nigeria, the Nigerian Army Saturday, unleashed its officers and men on the media preventing them from circulating their newspapers in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory and other states in the North.
The action of the soldiers enters its second day without any cogent reason advanced by the military high command for the clampdown.
No fewer than 30 soldiers, claiming to be acting on "orders from above" descended on the newspaper distribution centre in Area 1 Garki, Saturday morning and prevented the distributors and vendors from circulating papers in Abuja and environs.
The soldiers, who stormed the distribution centre in ten trucks, mounted surveillance around the large compound behind the United Nations Building and ordered all the drivers, who came to drop their papers to surrender them or lose their lives.
Apart from stopping the drivers from moving out of their vehicles, the soldiers also searched them thoroughly and prevented them from making phone calls.
The seizure of the newspapers and their drivers, which started around 2:30am did not end until 1:45pm on Saturday following the intervention by the Publisher of Thisday Newspaper and NPAN Chairman, Chief Nduka Obaigbena.
Before the release of the drivers and their consignments, several top government officials from the Presidency, the National Assembly, the NSA office and others, had sent their emissaries to collect their daily supplies of newspapers from the embattled distributors.
However at about noon, a Brig. Gen. from the Brigade of Guards came to the centre and met briefly with the officers and men keeping watch over the drivers and left.
Later, a soldier pleaded with the angry drivers and distributors to await further instructions as they were likely to be released by 2pm.
It was however learnt that as a result of mounting pressing on the soldiers, they were forced to free the distributors and drivers at 1:45pm.
Vanguard learnt that others newspapers that were dispatched for distribution in the northern part of the country were also seized at various checkpoints by the soldiers.
It is still unclear why the military is descending on the media in its fight against insurgency, while it is difficult to locate and rescue the over 200 girls seized by gunmen from Chibok.
The Director of Defence Information, Gen. Chris Olukolade, had on Friday claimed that the decision by soldiers to confiscate newspapers was not aimed at gagging the media.

I hope Nigerians know the "change" they want. Everything about this man seems wrong. From the visible hypocrisy on his face to the outright lies being sold to the public by his apologists, Nigeria would be on a long ride if he smells power.

What annoys me most are comments made by the ignorant ones down to the outright fools such as "we should try him first, then if he does not perform after 4 years we vote him out"... Like really Would you still have the avenue or opportunity to vote in 4 years time? Would it count?

Nothing beats freedom. If the people of Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Syria, et al, could have predicted the future, they would not have shouted change! Them for manage Ghadaffi and dem Mubarak... See where the change put them now.

Same mistake is happening in Nigeria and typically, we don't learn from the past. Bringing in a man that contributed to the decadent country today, guided by his co-perpetrators (Obasanjo, Atiku, Babangida) using the mantra 'change' is a mockery of our intelligence.

They are yet to fully evolve. Give them another 3 or 4 generations down the line and maybe they will understand your post.

What amazes me about this Buhari movement is how lazy and outright foolish most so called educated Nigerians are.
Any one who opposes a Buhari candidacy is naturally seen as Pro-GEJ not knowing that some of us know this fraud for who he truly is and what he represents.

Having a Buhari candidacy in our democracy is the biggest insult ever!

The pig of a dictator doesn't know that press freedom is an essential element of democracy. It's very necessary for the sustenance of democracy. Aside competing strong political parties, periodic else took and independent judiciary it's propably the most essential. A strong and unhindered press keeps the govt on its toes and ensures it's doesn't descend into dictatorship.

Buhari needs to know that democracy has survived in the US, UK, France, Germany etc not just because old generals were called out to save the country in times of trouble but because the press was allowed and encouraged to flourish.

The bitter truth is that most of the youths of this generation are wasted. They have the zombie and crowd mentality life style. They don't make decisions of their own accord, but follow other people because they feel the right thing is always where there is a crowd.
