This should be our main XI

...............DDG................
..Val....Smalling....Rojo....Blind..
..................Carrick.............
Di Maria...Herrera...Fellaini...Young..
.. ..........Rooney........... .

you can't play the same formation against different teams. i am not sure we would see blind in the LB against liverpool because of raheem.

then again, valencia would be destroyed in the formation you have. di maria isn't cut for that role of tracking back to help his full back. we need a gritty performance against liverpool.

it was an exquisite finish from the big fella. lloris isn't easy to beat - he's a top goalie. fellaini must start at anfield!
One problem wt d afro man is that he never get absolute consistency in his play, whenever he perfoms well in a match his next always becomes abysmal. I wish he will do well as he did today.

you have to blame the rest of the team for that.

when fellaini is on the pitch, they all become creatively lazy & just hoof every ball to him. today was different - there were many balls on the ground - that's what you get when you have mata, herrera & carrick on the pitch.

quite correct, Mata and Carrick made that difference complimented by Herrera.

it was an exhilarating first half performance! the pace in attack & urgency took Spurs by surprise, it was totally different from the labored, slow build up we have so often witnessed this season. a pleasant surprise for every United fan! the fans didn't have to keep screaming "attack! angry attack!! angry attack!!! angry"

Fellaini gave a good showing from the left attacking midfield role, & i think it was a good mix from the variety of player strength in our amoury
- - - - - - - - - - - - de Gea - - - - - - - - - - -
Valencia - - - Smalling - - - Jones - - - Blind
- - - - - - - - - - - Carrick - - - - - - - - - - - -

- - Mata - - - - - - - - - Fellaini - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - - Rooney - - - - - - - - - - - -

this was the average player positioning today & it proved to be a good blend of pawa & technique, although a little more pace will be better. LvG must take the credit for this one, he should keep it up. cool cool cool

we all know our home form is up there, its away form that has left a lot to the imagination. its how many points we can pick away from our remaining games that will truly decide our fate this season.

he hasn't been that bad. it is the fact that United has not really performed as expected with the torchlight beaming on him more cuz of the fees involved in his transfer & this has led to enormous weight on his shoulders. he has still created the most scoring chances for the team, if only the forwards have been as decent as Rooney lately - who knows?

let him settle in @ his own pace, we'll revisit his actual contributions #facts# @ the end of the season.

What is a good home record when your likely not going to play in the big boys league for the second year running?

you would be the one losing out.....
we play arsenal, city & some gutless teams at home. united would bag at least 19 points from the remaining fixtures - enough to clinch them a top 3 finish.

Whenever man utd loses, I'm always here to read comments from Coogar about how Rooney was @ fault backing it up with statistical data, and how Empawa keeps defending Rooney. This is how the next 50 pages of this thread would go.

Bar Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and maybe Liverpool at Anfield, the rest should an easy walk-over if the players keep the form they displayed today.

Easy walk over indeed. Na so e easy. There is no easy walk - over in the premier league.

WOW! There is plenty of hope for this team. What a performance!

Phil Jones had two bad balls with his first two plays. Almost scored DDG with an over hit pass. Afterwards he gave a commanding performance and acted as the sweeper, even going wide to kill some Tottenham moves in Spurs right flank . He appeared to have won all duels yesterday and he dealt with all one vs one situations well. It was a good pairing performance from Smalling and jones and support for each other was magnificent. However, I think Jones should reduce his passes to DDG.

Fellaini doesn't last beyond first half. He lost concentration in the second half. He needs to build his stamina and speed. But he gave a good performance overall.

Blind and Young did very well. Valencia and Mata did well. Good game from Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Valencia.

Good to see Mata give some quality support to Valencia. Hope Mata is not injured? We need to play exactly this team in the next game and see.

Not happy they wrongly cancelled Rooney's second goal. He can still contest for the Golden boot. grin Nice dribbling for his goal, more of that. I wonder what he does going to stand on the right side for set-plays where he knows he won't be the one to take it. Short one man in the box. Gaal should address our set-play style where two players stand with the ball, it last worked against Olympiacos.

Generally, we were able to slow Tottenham to our pace and we closed the gaps well. We didn't allow them to have the space to run at us which is their weapon. We were not really fast but our control of the game with good passes and technique made our game dangerous. We also played many men behind the ball once we lost it. You are also not going to see strikers beating Smalling and Jones with speed so easily. When you think Smalling is the last man, you suddenly see Jones behind him. Good combination.

Di Maria will have to learn why accurate passes sometimes matter. He makes us play faster, but when we play so fast and lose the ball carelessly, it comes back to hurt us. And not everyone can play along side his speed. Next season, the team will be on same rhythm. Everyone knowing when to run and when to slow the play. But In Madrid, it was run run run from Di Maria, Ronaldo, Bale, Isco and Benzema. Even Modric sef.

In the first leg, we could have scored four goals against them in the first half but we were too wasteful. In the second half they played better. Good we won this with good 90minutes performance and got a clean sheet.

I pray we continue like this and get all the results we want to finish in the top four.

MOTM: MICHAEL CARRIK with 1 goal, 1 Assist plus a commanding midfield performance.

Valencia keep having the highest pass accuracy match after match. The ball is safest in his legs and he is rejuvenating under Gaal. We no long see only straight line runs. Val 94%, Herrera 91% Jones 88%.

Opposition half: Valencia 87%, Mata 81%, Herrera 84%, Carrick 82%, Jones.77%, Fellaini 76%, Blind 68%, Young 68%, Rooney 63%, Smalling 46%,

Jones had the most clearances by far and has the best dues won/lost ratio. Don't blame my Jones anymore. wink

Happy week and the best of luck in our next match.

The ref's tongue was a separate incidence though. Rooney was protesting a certain ref's decision in the first half where a good move was aborted by the ref's whistle, then the ref pointed at the linesman and told Rooney 'ntor! grin

Phil Jones did well to recover after his shambolic opening minutes. I don't even care about the ball possession as long as they attack & take their chances. We can't quantify the amount of uneasiness injected into the Spurs team the moment we grabbed our first goal with the very first chance! Goals win games, a fact well known.

Prevarications. Please put Chelsea's home record here for all to see. I am aware they have not lost a single game and they have only 3 draws; City, Burnley and Southampton.
