This is one of the ill treatments meted out to a Nigerian recently in the UK. My friend was traveling to the UK to meet a friend of his for some important discussions. His wife's younger sister stays in London and was not aware of his arrival as he wanted to stay in the hotel throughout his visit without any disturbance. On arriving London, Immigration officers asked him if he knew anyone in London, to which he said no. In what looked like a drama, they took his phone from him and one of the officers went to an office, searched through the phone, found a London Number and called it. My guy's sister-in-law picked and answered all the questions they posed thinking the sister's husband was in trouble. Like another drama, mu guy found himself in a room, and thereafter ushered to a waiting plane going to Lagos. This is absolutely astonishing! 5 Likes 3 Shares |

He ought to have given all information when applying for visa such as this. They were scared he was trying to overstay with the in-law as the accomplice.  28 Likes 1 Share |

All questions must be answered honestly, when being asked by immigration officers on official duty.. He said he knows no one in London, yet he had in his possesion a contact number for a person in London... If that person was contacted and answered the immigation officers questions to confirm that they knew each other, then all the evidence they need, is there for establishing that he lied to them.. It may seem he did nothing wrong and even his lie seems to be concealing nothing illegal or out of the ordinary, but it stands that he accumulated the breach of immigration rules by declaring he did not know anyone in London... That alone is enough to revoke a visa.. But it may be in this case, that there was possibly more to the issue than just lying.. 43 Likes 5 Shares |

Again lying get's a Nigerian in trouble when telling the truth would have passed him through. You said that he had booked a hotel for buisness, if this is true. Then he should have told UKBA that he had relations in UK. but had booked a hotel for buisness meetings and was not seeing them. It's so simple but people would rather lie than tell the truth. pansophist: @ "everyone lies". You need to change the kind of people you associate with. There's way more to life than you think. Its quite unfortunate that some Nigerians think like this. The truth wouldn't have hurt him one bit but he choose to give an unnecessary lie. These kind of people are the major problems of Nigeria, thinking you can just get away with breaking the law or being dishonest. In saner climes, people are held by their words and integrity, honesty and reliability go a long way. In Europe, if you have an appointment at 12:00pm and get there 12:05pm, no one will attend to you and you'll be regarded as unreliable. But alas, we are proud to boast about "African time" and make it seem like it is an achievement to be unreliable. And that's where we are today, a nation that has moved nowhere after 54years. Our indicipline and non chalance has cost us our prestige and rendered us static, if not backward in our "perceived" development. The question is, does he owe them the duty to reveal information beyond what he has revealed in his visa application? Do they have the right to invade his privacy by wading into his phone contacts in the manner they did? can you treat a British citizen like this in Nigeria? If you find him suspicious, set police to watch his moves while in the UK, because the same you granted him visa with the information he volunteered on application. We like looking at every Nigerian as a devil and thats a very wrong attitude. Why wont the foreigners treat us that way? 28 Likes 1 Share |

babeface3: You are totally prejudiced into your Nigerian village, tribal mentality. What he must have done is look guilty when trying to pass immigration, they are specially trained to spot signs. As border control agents they have every right to question anyone that arrouses their suspicion. They will question people from any country. You are seeking the privilage of entering their country, you have NO "right of entry." This applies all over the world, not just UK. 22 Likes |

They check their own British citizens as well... Your friend was asked a simple question which he should have answered truthfully and reply... In reality it is cases like this one that cause border agencies to continue to be extra cautious about Nigerians. Here is someone who could quite simply have told the truth and he would be in the UK now. He chose to lie and was caught out. The person who caught him will have passed on the story of "another Nigerian fraudster" and every green passport is suspect again. If Nigerians did not keep showing how dishonest they can be the situation would calm down and move on! 12 Likes |

Humans tends to react in a funny manner when we fear or are anxious of something, most times we cant stand/look into the eyes of a law enforcement agent when we are guilty.. 1. Maybe he acted anxious, with fear or was avoided eye contact of the immigration officer that was attending to him... 2. he lied and they found out, 3. The business meeting he claimed to be attending might not sound so convincing to make them take the risk of allowing him in.. In the immigration person thinking, Why is he anxious? I don't know Why did he lie? Maybe he has negative intention and don't want people to know his accomplice or don't want to have a tie to anyone in the country... Believe me if I was the one behind the counter I will do exactly the same.. Yes send him back, the risk of him entering the country is not worth taking... Next time..... 1. Look confident, 2. Why are you coming in? I have a meeting with a friend/business partner and do a short holiday 3. Do you know anyone here?
