The north has an agenda for Buhari’s presidency… and Tinubu is not part of it – Femi Aribisala
APRIL 19, 2015

by Kolapo Olapoju

Femi Aribisala, controversial scholar and international affairs expert, is of the opinion that by the time Muhammadu Buhari is sworn in as presidency, national leader of the All Progressives Congress, may become expendable.

Aribisala in an interview with Vanguard, believes that the northerners have an agenda, which will become known after May 29.

He says that despite the fact that Tinubu made Buhari the presidential candidate of the APC, he could not deliver the votes of the South-West, and this would work against him.

“I don’t agree that Tinubu made Buhari the president. Let’s get the facts right. Tinubu made Buhari the presidential candidate of the APC. But in the presidential election, Buhari did not win Tinubu’s votes. And that is part of the problem. All the discussion before was that everything would be determined in the South-West, but Tinubu did not deliver the South-West.”

“The margin of defeat in the presidential election was not much in Lagos. Tinubu, to some extent at the presidential level, is expendable. And that is the problem. You can actually not choose a president just from the North. It interests me that while the campaign was going on, all the northerners making noise that it was their turn disappeared.”

“They did not campaign with Buhari. The people campaigning were Tinubu, Amaechi, Fashola. I bet you that the northerners are going to come out come May 29. And you will see it happen. Don’t think that the people that had been clamouring for power to return to the North in the past six years, were doing that for Tinubu to inherit. I don’t believe that. They have an agenda. That is why I said the story is not told because the election has taken place, the story will unfold when the administration comes on board.

Aribisala is delusional, confused and disoriented after the loss of Jonathan. If Tinubu did not deliver South-west, can Aribisala tell us how many states buhari won in the South-west? The last time I checked, Buhari won five states in the West.

Who does not know the north has an agenda?

Do you think that they sacrificed their children to be kidnapped and raped, and their infrastructures destroyed through self bombing just for Tinubu to call the shots?

Mba, the north has an agenda quite right.

They have started by laying claim to the positions of Senate president and Speaker of the House simultaneously.
This is the 1st time any region will be asking for both seats in addition to the presidency at thesame time.

The malams have definitely arrived.

Femi is right on point!
Tinubu is highly expendable.
The North did not vote for APC....they only voted for Buhari. It might explain the reason why other parties contesting for other position used Buhari's picture to boost their popularity.

The total number of votes given to Buhari in South West was less than what Buhari got in Katsina and Kano. Let us watch events unfold.

God bless Nigeria

This Aribisala is a nuisance.
His arguments are always illogical and he is clueless.
The SW does not need the centre as long as that centre does not behave like and is not as clueless as Jonathan.
On tinubu and one imagined northern agenda, only a man without a purpose in life would not have an agenda. The important thing is,
What are those agendas?
The SW agenda is in the open. As long as Nigeria remains one, the agenda is a structure which works for every man, woman and child regardless of ethnicity.
On the SW APC being sidelined , only a fool would do that considering the organising skills of the main actors from the region. Those who are capable of making a success of buhari's government and their administrative ability are in the lagos APC. A split vote in this election could easily turn to a landslide for any candidate in a future election.
Also, we are no more in the 1970.
Buhari is not as gullible as Aribisala thinks. The resistance to his ascent to aso rock was even worse in the NW(his own region) than anywhere else.

whatever votes he must have garnered from the north would have been rendered useless if the people of South west refused to vote for him.

tinubu didn't deliver SW, and nobody delivered any region, the people simply wanted change and they went for it.

Tinubu cannot ask anybody to vote for anybody in the SW, the people will simply go for their will.

Example: he lost Ondo and ekiti guber poll. Oya, talk another one

Tinubu played his part, believe me. Yes Nigerians , to include folks in the SW, wanted change but people still had to be mobilised and sensitised otherwise the 'monetisation' and bribery plan of GEJ would have seen the PDP 'win' the SW. Or do you think GEJ would have won in Ekiti without Fayose's 'work' in the state to deliver a PDP victory?

Yes the "evil" North always has a 'sinister' agenda. Can Aribisala now shut up? The guy is so retrogressive and annoying. He is also very dishonest and shamelessly revisionist. There is a lot to admire about Buhari and there is a lot to admire about Tinubu also. Both want what is best for Nigeria. Same way they put aside ideological differences to defeat the PDP is how they will work together to make Nigeria great.

While the PDP can only give Nigeria the 'dead weight' called Sambo, Tinubu put forward Osinbajo who is a brilliant man who can deputise effectively for Buhari any time and any day. We know Aribisala grew up in the days of the North and South 'cold war' but someone needs to tell him that Buhari is not Adamu Ciroma et al and that the likes of Kwanwaso, El-Rufai, Tambuwal et al are the new face of Northern leadership that is pro-people and want to work with the rest of Nigeria to secure the development of the common man.

Aribisala should spare us his bitterness. The evil Party he supported and glorified has been deposed and Nigerians can now begin to hope again. He should carry his message of negativity and bitterness to Mars.

There are remnants of truth in these kinda thing . But all power players understands that power can't remain in one place for too long ,else it will self-destruct. Ulterior motives or not, northern Nigeria wants to remain relevant in the polity of Nigeria. And to me, that is understandable.

Losers from a rigging region playing divisive politics since 1800 AD.

If they like they can even colonise the whole of Nigeria, we careless, once the government is delivering on its promise to the people.
