Doctos in nigeria are so so poorly paid that many are leaving the profession in droves, at least the poster will know where not to venture into if he/she wants to make money in nigeria:medicine.

But how true is this? My colleague whom we had our masters together in the UK was inerviewed in the UK by Exxon-Mobil and though she went to Nigeia last September, however she just told me yesterday that she's been offered the job and would be paid 10Million Naira per annum.

How true is this information? More so, when she was having the interview in the UK, she said she'll be paid 12Million Naira per annum (according to her) but she's now said 10Million Naira. Do they really pay that much in Nigeria (I mean the oil companies?)

She's only 26 by the way. And she's not working as an engineer but as an accountant.

Anyone with an insight?

To be serious, APPLIED MATHEMATICS is among the most paying jobs in Nigeria. Becos employment survey show that there is no organization an applied mathematician can not work including oil company, engineering, information and telecommunication banks etc. It depends on how you package your self.

Hello,

I wonder which professional career is the most rewarding in Nigeria. Is it medicine, petroleum engineering, telecommunications, or something else?

I'd like to say "entrepreneurship" but it's not a professional career. I think medicine is over-rated in terms of what doctors actually earn and telecommunications only pays the few that work in banks. As for petroleum engineering, it's probably lucrative because of the oil industry, but may not even be the most lucrative oil job since oil companies also employ geologists, engineers in all fields, and even doctors and drivers.

So, which professional career would you say is the most lucrative in Nigeria? How much can one earn with it?

Thanks!
I think aircraft engineer has it.... Ordinary ND can be given as much as 200k n above while a licensed aircraft eng wil b collecting nothing less dan 900 n above per month...

Depends on experience, depends on airline.

Think of it being in the range $50K to $90K.

Chiori:
When I started working, I was earning N12,000 monthly for 2 years. (That was in 2003). It was small, I know, for a graduate, but because my Dad taught me a few things about handling money, I didn't mind. I lived within and below my means, doing so much of savings and investment than spending. At the end of those 2 years, my net worth (as at 2005) was N923,015.23 exactly. I was not playing good offense, but I played good defense and see where it got me. Now, with my mentality, and my frugal nature, I can confidently forecast that by the time I am 40 years old, I will be wealthy in 100 million Naira percentile range, and by the time I am 65, will retire without worrying about being a bore on anybody. And certainly, the generation after me will follow in these steps because I will inculcate the culture of frugality in them.
pls can you teach me what your father taught you?
