Elance.com, Upwork.com And Other Freelancing Site: How To Succeed Guide. by victor101(m): 12:44pm On Sep 12, 2015
Hello Guys!

Call me Victor.

Yes, am a freelancer with Elance.com and Upwork.com willing to help the best I can.

Why I Open this thread: The opportunities here are endless, just Working from home. I decided to open this thread; carved out from Lady writer's thread "How To Make $1,000/month Writing And Researching Online" which discuss more about freelancer.com. Here, new starters and old freelancers will gain ample knowledge to building a strong freelancing career. Here, our Mantra for success is "Love, Sharing and Hard-work" so if this sounds like what you are about, you are welcome.

My "AIM": It is expedient that I create this thread for freelancers who have questions or challenges in the aforementioned sites or other freelancing sites. The main purpose is to help people make good money using their skills, I have observed that guidance is necessary for an effective freelancing career.

SO, keep your questions and challenges rolling here, my aim is to solve those challenges for you. Shalom!

Kind Regards!

1. Build your Profile: Upon having the zeal to make big money in dollars online and zeroing on a particular freelancing site to get clients, you are also expected to create a catchy, WELL FOCUS profile that will give the discerning client an air of relieve he is hiring the best fit for the job, while did I activate my caps lock key on "well focus", is because I have observed that most freelancers always want to do all jobs out there, whether they are skilled in it or not. My advice however, is if you are a writer, then specialized in an aspect or two at most in this beautiful field of writing. Every client out there want to hire the best fit for the task, so If your profile description reads Astute Writer, Data Entry Specialist cum Virtual Assistant, client won't take you serious. Be focus, that's the aim, If you go with; Professional Content Writer! this spells seriousness and captures the need of a client who need a content writer. I will explain more about this in subsequent writing here, so stay glued! Building a credible profile can take me a whole e-book.

2. Bid for Job: Guys time with out number, I have emphasized that freelancing site isn't a platform for spamming, that is why you must be FOCUS, sit yourself down and answer this simple question " what skill can I give most effectively" then work around that answer. However, your bid proposal should be apt and tailored to the job post. For some client, in making sure that all bidders read their job post, they sometimes includes word(s) you must include in your bid proposal. So carefully read job post and importantly, understand what the job requires, check if you posses the relevant skill(s) because this is among the pointers for inviting job bidders. My advise; for starters, quote a low price, I will dedicate more writings on here, so stay glued!

3. Stay Online: Guys freelancing is a career, just like in the bible God ask Jeremiah "What seeth thou" so I ask you now, what do you see? your answer will form your innate ability to greatly succeed in this ocean of opportunity call freelancing. Yes, it just don't stop at bidding bidding bidding for jobs, Stay connected always 24/7 especially for starters. Most client during invite many bidders for a job and gives it to that person you is of course online at the time and meet his requirements. Some clients need to invite you for a quick negotiation, update etc, so you must find means to always stay connected 24/7

4. Customer Service: Yes, this is what puts me ahead of other I think, so everybody can write, and proofread, but not every body knows how to retain a client, "I Know" and am using it to my advantage. I will write more on this subsequently, stay glued!

5. Ask for review: Also, the fruit, of our customer service skill will make your client always give you excellent review, most importantly, most freelancer don't know you can bargain/negotiate price quote with asking for excellent review and 5 star rating nothing less. I will write more on this subsequently, stay glued!

The starting point is: what skill do these guys have? If you have no skill you will be earning peanuts!

But if you have real skills, employers will come with thousands of dollars begging you to do their work. I made $50,000 from a Latvian company on Elance in 2013 alone. That company alone paid my rent that year and a jeep I bought.

You have to be on top of the food chain. All this talk about profile building without skills is a waste of time.

I even give 10k, 20k jobs to students because I am too busy now and work with few high paying companies now. There is even a php developer I know based in Lagos who has done more than 700 jobs on freelancer. When u reach that stage jobs will be chasing you, not you chasing $2 per 500 words peanut butter change.

If you and Victor can't provide proofs of your earnings to make us believe what you are saying, then know that you are wasting time. No guy here will buy your ebook or whatever. Beware

I have not even shown you my account snapshot from all my freelance accounts. If I open my Payoneer transaction PDF document from the last 6 years, people will faint here. That is why when Elance was coming to Nigeria for a seminar in Lagos four years ago, I was given a specal invitation to come for that event.

Those who think I will sell an ebook on this are joking. It will not happen. All I will advice you is this: forget about opening any freelance accounts. First things first. Go and acquire a skill and move up the freelance food chain.

Well I don't have too much to say, for newbies please don't let yourself be carried away by some lies being posted here. The truth is it's not quite easy making money via freelancing especially when you identify as a Nigerian. It's hard work like any other job you get IRL. All this people posting several thousand dollars am just wondering which client will offer a Nigerian that much. Good luck everyone.

They do, if you present yourself well... and they will come back for more if your service is satisfactory. I have clients from different countries coz of my discipline... Even in a work that requires "native speakers only", I still get picked. It's so real and such a gold mine will only respond to those who have faith and are ready to take actions.
