I can confidently say that freelancing is real and pays well if you know your onions well. I have been earning on freelancer and hope to start earning on Elance too. And yes I work as a Nigerian online without changing my ip because I am a proud Nigerian. Those doubting can continue doubting while those that have taken action keep making the Benjamins.

Acquire a skill that you can sell on that site. That was my secret. When you are that good, no one will want to know your country of origin. Skills speak!

For the dwarf goat project: read this...

- "I have already published a book about this goat but it is getting negative reviews. I need somebody who can write a book that will get 5star reviews."

Now who measures the parameters by which the job can be said to be one which will attract a "5-star review"? These sort of projects with nebulous targets are the type that create lots of problems.

That is why I clearly said, people should not just start opening profiles and bidding left and right without skills and without training. You need to be trained to identify, then avoid trap projects that will cause frustration! There is more to this than meets the eye. I did not make all those thousands of dollars like that. I had to get trained.

They do, if you present yourself well... and they will come back for more if your service is satisfactory. I have clients from different countries coz of my discipline... Even in a work that require "native speakers only", I still get picked. It's so real and such a gold mine will only respond to those who have faith and are ready to take actions.

I have faith. Which one is present yourself well? Please elaborate, I sincerely want to learn.

Ensure you've got the basics, Laptop, modem(connected to net) then take time to visit these sites www.upwork.com and www.freelancer.com , I will like to see more nairalanders on upwork. you will get big cash here.. hmmm, freelancer, is a preparatory ground, why? because you get lots of spamming and Indians there(the site doesn't look serious), If you've got marketable skill. I'll advice you come to upwork. Well any other thing, you can reach me here or my email: aprofessor@naij.com ( If am less busy I will reply).

Someone challenged me here to show proof if earnings. I posted one. Another one said na lie, nobody can pay a Nigerian that much. I now show a pic of dollars withdrawn from GTB on my way to Sheraton Abuja to change them, they say I am proud.

You do one, dem go talk. You no do, dem go talk. Success attracts jealousy.

You need to take a chill pill bro. Success is a journey, not a one day thing and if you see success, don't be jealous. Simply ask humbly how you can replicate it and it will be shown you.

No one 'hates' ur success, they sincerely don't like u rubbing it on their faces, then you said 'Simply ask humbly' I can count how many people who ve asked you in one way or the other how u made this 'acclaimed' fortune and your here talking of sheraton. For someone who has made so much from the 'very scarce' skills, I'm amazed you need to be told something very glaring about yourself - that you are proud, and you still go on to interpret it as jealousy!

Meanwhile, I recall someone asked you to share the link to your profile? Don't bury that.. common!

Good Morning Guys

JUST SO WE DON'T DERAIL THIS BEAUTIFUL THREAD I OPENED TO GIVE THE BEST I CAN

This morning I will dwell on: My Strory: A Freelancer's Journey.

Yes you have the basics (laptop, modem), Yes you have the skills, Yes you are hardworking, but there is more to all these relevant attribute to becoming a successful freelancer,

MY STORY: It all started here, I mean here on nairaland, I have seen the thread before several times "How to make $1000/monthly from researching' Hmmm, I subconsciously assert that is one of those nairaland again looking to open a thread for popularity, or perhaps another way to lure unsuspecting nairalander to buy some product/service. Day in day out, I read the topic on the job section and am like mtchewwww, "no be me and una" I never clicked to check its content, Then just one day, one faithful day I just decided to click this topic screaming loud every time on my laptop screen, hmm " make I even check wetin dem dey do here" gbam, I got glued " Making to make $1000 in a month" singing sweet melody in my head. Yes, is Ladywriter's thread, very informative, but before now, Nigerian Lady in London had already posted a data entry/product description job in the jobs/vacancies section, its a freelance job, because am quite new to it, I applied and later got to find out that she works from Elance.com immediately I typed elance.com and did my own little research, subsequently, register a profile and started work. As at today I haven't gotten any reply from this lady, She asked us to add here ID on Skype up till today no add back. She went blank.

I did my research, yes of course with help from Ladywriter's thread, I observed her thread was mostly about Freelancer, which was cool, but I know straight away, Nigerians must have flooded this site, let me focus on Elance.com now Upwork.com. Yes, it paid off.I get better jobs in Elance.com compared to freelancer.com

MORAL OF THE STORY: I did my home work with finding out, not just settling with what I see. I know there is more and there will always be more. I know we have many gurus out there making millions. My question is, What is the essence of those million without impacting on others. Hey, am not a millionaire, but Am worth more than a billionaire.

Shalom!

The starting point is: what skill do these guys have? If you have no skill you will be earning peanuts!

But if you have real skills, employers will come with thousands of dollars begging you to do their work. I made $50,000 from a Latvian company on Elance in 2013 alone. That company alone paid my rent that year and a jeep I bought.

You have to be on top of the food chain. All this talk about profile building without skills is a waste of time.

I even give 10k, 20k jobs to students because I am too busy now and work with few high paying companies now. There is even a php developer I know based in Lagos who has done more than 700 jobs on freelancer. When u reach that stage jobs will be chasing you, not you chasing $2 per 500 words peanut butter change.

Believe me, am not hating @ all, why should I? But going by your unverified earnings there's a contradiction. You said you earned 50,000 USD in 2013 alone, yet your total unverified earnings show a 38,232usd balance, where is 50,000usd made in 2013 alone? Pls post a link to your profile, thanks.

Like I said before freelancing is not a get rich quick platform, there's work involved, expenses(fuel & data), expertise needed, wisdom to avoid scammers and time required. With experience it will get better and easier. Take note, clients are not fools you will surely work for every dollar you earn.

They can never show you their profile... Na to come here they open thread as if it's that easy even as a Nigeria. The truth is that those that succeeds there don't use Nigeria profile. The aim of starting this thread is to sell something as time goes on. Like I said nobody will buy anything from you guys.

i do not totally aggree with you in respect to profile stuff. People like ladywriter uses Her Nigeria profile and so do I. The most important thing is commitment. As for this guys here, please do not be too unfair with them. All we need do is watch them and learn from them. Until now there r yet to ask us for money. When ladywriter started Her THREAD, many called Her all kind of names but today she has help countless number of nairaland users. My advice to OP is to update the THREAD showing others what to do. Just like ladywriter did. Or if you are not chanced you draw a table of content and post it so people will know when you will teach and when not. Thanks

I only showed you just a little of my earnings. I have companies I work for now whom I met on the platforms. From Russia, US, Canada, UK, South Africa, Vietnam, etc. My earnings are in Euros and USD.

I have nothing to prove to anyone. I am not selling any ebooks. I am only saying: it is possible to make good money as a Nigerian with a fully Nigerian profile.

It is about your skill and what value you impart. People pay for value. Little value means little money. Much value means much money. To be able to pull in the money I make, I paid thousands of pounds to pick several skills and certifications in London and France. I prepared for it. I made lots of personal sacrifice.

No be today i enter the game. So haters, keep hating. Oluwa that opened my eyes years back has not failed and is still blessing.
