Many thanks to you ifoundmyperfect for your time and many other who had help in one way or the other.

I studied Industrial Physics and I really like Wireline logging. Please, can you enlighten me on any professional course or a better way to break into the industry.

Thanks as I await your responses

SEQUENCE STRATIGTAPHY!

The above used to be my most dreaded area in geology back in school...
I recall sometime in the past when i just joined the industry...
I was an active seismic interpreter and geomodeler in practice..
I knew the whole workflow to get a job done...
I could used any software to deliver what ever you wanted to see...
But I was lacking in an aspect..
Which was getting the concept on why we do some of the things we do..
How to troubleshoot when anomaly or challenges arises...
All these can only be answered if one understands his basic geology/geophysics
I flunked my interview!!

Most of the questions asked where centered on Environment of Deposition, Sequence Stratigraphy,
Basin analysis, Fault analysis and so on... 10% was on seismic interpretation (na for only here i manage shine small)... 2% was on software usage and proficiency...

No one needed to tell me to go back to my roots and READ!!!
That's why I've been so passionate in establishing than younger geoscientists get enlightened thru reading...
A question can come from anywhere...
Even though they may specify the position that is being opened..

As a geoscientist, you need to be conversant in both geology and geophysics..
Groom yourself into an integrated geoscientist...
Your market value no go be in Naira...
READ & RESEARCH!!

Most of what we do is reservoir studies.. All of which is being carried out be a team of integrated professionals
Ranging from a Petrophysicist who analyses the logs >> Seismic Interpreter who interprets the Seismic Section (either 2D or 3D) and produce surfaces>> A Geomodeler who creates static models for all reservoir levels of interest and finally to a Reservoir Engineer who carry out simulation/dynamic modeling...

What kills many of us is the mentality of "this is my area of specialization" It wont kill you to have an idea of what is being done in other disciplines. I cannot over-emphasis to relevance of reading or having good books to make references. And asking questions. Abeg una! If you are a follower of this thread, take it seriously. I don't know how far i'd be able to keep up with it.

The books i'd b be sharing today are centered around sequence stratigraphy. It was given to me by a Ph.D holder in sequence stratigraphy. He called it one of the key essentials for every sequence stratigrapher and wannabees. If una see the folder within folders, within folders wey this oga comot this ebook (Principles Of Sequence Stratigraphy) from, fear start to dey catch me. I Thought it was a confidential document on national security.

I have put these books (they are three in number) into a compressed folder and uploaded to dropbox. Will be sharing the link shortly.

This time around, I have decided not to make the download link expire or bring it down in any other form, except i see the need too. But instead, I have chosen to password the file. Any interested persons sld PM me for the password.

DON'T DROP YOUR EMAILS!!!

Enjoy Now, Thank Me Later!

Bro its unfortunate that I joined this forum late but sincerely I must thank you for your kind gestures in educating us on what and what will be helpful if really we want to practice what we studied. its quiet unfortunate that I have digressed a bit into construction having a role as site supervisor under the heat of the sun without much to show for it. Its disheartening that am not practising what I studied and that is geology and I blv its never too late to do so. .I blv that. u can help a brother to finding his foot back and I will forever remain grateful. Since you like wireline logging, I'd suggest you to explore the option of Petrophysics.... (wellsite or workstation based or both)
Follow thread, i'd share materials that can help you...

Tutorials these days barely comes with audio. Their objective is just to guide you thru the workflow. You can also revert to the manual or try out other videos...

Such resume doesn't take a day to build. You need to start from scratch. That is, increase the improve your Geology knowledge base, that way I won't be so hard learning to use software like petrel.
I have shared books and also petrel training data to get you on track.
Re: GEOSCIENTIST & PETROLEUM ENGINEER's HAVEN - Be Empowered, Enriched & Enlightened by Nobody: 8:07pm On Oct 05, 2015
I have strong technical knowledge of Eclipse 100 and 300 for dynamic modeling; Petrel RE for creating a simple model; OFM for decline curve analysis; Saphir for Well Test Interpretation; MBAL for Material Balance Modeling, PROSPER for production optimization. if you're interested in learning any of these softwares, I can teach you, but it will cost you.

Now that oil prices have fallen and majority of the O&G coys are not recruiting, this is the time for undergrad and grad students to hone their technical skills so that by the time the oil prices rise again, you'll not be found wanting. Competition is fierce now in the industry. You must be able to prove yourself

Seize this opportunity to learn from me.

Re: GEOSCIENTIST & PETROLEUM ENGINEER's HAVEN - Be Empowered, Enriched & Enlightened by LinusBBQ: 2:50pm On Oct 07, 2015
the thing is that I am not only interested in oil and gas. So I am trying to look for ways to develop myself to be come more of a geophysicist than a petrophysicist. Any advise with regards to that?

Also, is there any geophysicist or geologist that is working (or has worked) in the mining industry in this forum. If yes what's the experience like?

This is amazing, the problem of an average Nigerian is the poor reading habit.
I'm also guilty of this myself, but I'm determined to rediscover the positive nature I possessed during my early school days.

Anyway, I'm graduate of Geography & Environmental Management
Not really related to the geophysicist and petrophysicists of this world but I'm beginning to love the world of geology & other related courses.

Ill take out time to read as much here from Day 1 till date cos I just discovered I've got a long way to go.
Still all about my youth service now but I'd like to learn as much as possible during this time so Ill be useful rather than empty after my 1year of national service.

Big ups to the creator of this thread and all those who have kept it going, the info here is really inspiring and educative smiley
