The Eze Nri was a priest as well as a king.

You are actually wrong but I can only speak for Anambra....We used to have what is called Ezeani before the arrival of the Europeans. These Ezeani's were the true kings but wielded no military power. Eze Nri is even a more mightier type of Ezeani. So,you are wrong we had Eze but we never practiced monarchy.

In your dreams. Every Igbo town recognise only their Eze or Igwe as called in Anambra/Enugu axis. The towns of Nri and Arochukwu however at a stage had their Kings recognised beyond their towns but never had authority over other towns like Benin Oba or Alaafin.

Exactly. And Nri is no more popular than Arochukwu, with Arochukwu's authority extending beyond Igboland into Ibibio Ijaw and Efik territories.

No ,never heard of him and didn't know there is a town called Orlu. Thought it was just a local government.
Ochi atugbuom. But really I'm amused. The Igwe of Orlu has from the time of the Colonial masters till independence sat in the same chambers as the Obi of Onitsha, Obong of Calabar, et al. He was among top 5 First class Eastern King listed in Gowons Who is Who gazette. The former Igwe of Orlu a one time Senator representing Orlu zone in the first republic died at the age of 104 years making him the oldest recorded King in the history of Nigeria to attain that age. Who is Eze Ilomuanya in the presence of Igwe Orlu. That people don't make noise doesn't make them invaluable.

i recalled the day Gej came to onitsha i was there live and many kings stood up and bowed to Gej but Agbogidi didn't even stand up talk more of bowing you need to see how Gej bowed and trembled before the great Agbogidi. that day i fear the influence of that man more.

Obi of Onitsha bows to no man because he's considered as a god and gods don't bow to mortal no matter the status of the person.

talking of political influence ngige forked up by hosting his rally on the Ofala day and Agbogidi cursed him thus he failed.

that's a tip of iceberg on the capability of Agbogidi grin

proudly onye onitsha

Obi Onitsha is the chairman of Anambra traditional rulers and so he can go and represent Anambra monarchs in some circles.
Eze Ilomuanya of Obingwa in Imo state is the chairman of southeast traditional rulers, so there are places he can sit that the Obi of Onitsha cannot sit.

But does that make Eze Ilomuanya superior to Obi Onitsha? Obingwa is an autonomous community that was created about twenty years ago or so. So Onitsha is much older than Obingwa, yet their king represents Igbo monarchs

Well, Nri kingship is hundreds of years older than Onitsha kingship, and is by far, more important to Igbo cultural life than Onitsha kingship whose only sphere of cultural influence is Onitsha.
obingwa is not in imo state....its in Abia

You don't get the point. I understand your position of the Eze Nri and rest of them. I am telling you that the most recognized kings in Nigeria are Obi of Onitsha, Emir of Kano, Ooni of Ife and Oba of Benin. These kings are classified as the first class kings in Nigeria. There influence is far reaching because some of them are in the major cosmopolitan cities like of Emir of Kano, Obi of Onitsha and Oba of Benin. Even of Oba of Lagos(stool) is equally kicking because of the city the kings live.
its about culture and what it dictates......you can't call obi of onitsha custodian of the igbo culture because of external classification......culture says that Eze nri is.......a true igbo son will know this

These are the most powerful kings of Nigeria(Ooni of Ife, Emir of Kano, Obi of Onitsha and Oba of Benin). You don't mess with them, though some are late but their dynasty is what we are talking about.

The pictures shows the three major royal fathers of the three major tribes of Nigeria.

Oba of Benin is a small local government area king.

Oh my God, there's no such thing as a 'custodian of Igbo culture'. Each community or even lineage head (what some are calling Ezeani) are the custodians of each communities culture. Simple example that the Obi of Onitsha or even Eze Nri hasn't a flipping clue what Ekpe and Okonko entails is evident of that. Igbo people are a scattered loosely related people.

Point of correction....there is nothing like '' greatest king in igboland, and custodian of igbo culture''.
He is the Obi of ONITSHA and not of the whole igbo.
We have a saying....'' Igbo enwegh eze ''.....have u heard it before.
Pls don't mislead others.

Jesus.
You still don't get it,do you?.Being presiding monarch over a popular growing city does not make one foremost king and custodian of an ethnic nation's culture. That's what I was correcting you about.Rather than note it,you dug in like a stubborn tick.
Get this,Agbogidi Obi Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe is not the custodian of Igbo culture nor foremost king, though the most well known,in Anambra state not to talk of the Igbo nation.Learn to take correction.
