Can someone explain to me exactly what eze ndigbo means and what his functions are. Is he akin to a king?, because according to this Akure saga, he wore a crown (some say it is a cap) and royal regalia to see the Deji, he is also said to have come with some chiefs. Is he a market leader? because the bone of contention was who is to be appointed or elected market leader.

If the the Eze Ndigbo is not well defined, the Igbos will always have issues wherever the migrate. Imagine an Eze Ndigbo of London wearing a crown or cap in front of the Queen of England claiming to the the king of Igbos in London.

So when a Yoruba oba visits an igbo king in imo state, should be remove his clothes n crown n wear mufty just because he's in igbo land

The issue in akure is even worse than in Lagos, fulani herdsmen are butchering and humiliating yorubas and yoruba elders in akure and ondo and the youths and their thug deji are no where to be found, instead, the yorubas are choosing to pick side battles with igbos.. I wonder what will happen when igbos begin to follow the footsteps of fulani's in yorubaland

story is now changing from u people saying he wore a crown to the obas palace, its now they protested, I don't know y I hv d feeling that if someone neutral analyzes the story constructively it would be affirmed that the Eze is innocent;
from the stories the igbos hv a market at one certain place like that, and thats an igbo dominated/ igbo area if I cud say based on assessments the same way yorubas hv tailoring shops in the east and northerners hv there goat and cattle market too with there various leaders and representatives yet nobody cares as far as they deliver, so the igbo traders there hold a meeting to elect a leader to be in charge of the market to aid in cleaning the environment and the rest(if the market had yoruba traders or had a leadership before now it was never stated anywhere, d igbos there just thought of it as a way to ease there work), then d yorubas hear about it,Ondo is still backward so if there thinking is backward d it won't be a surprise, they start with there way of thinking"thats how they behave, that's how they said Lagos is a no mans land, now they want to bring it to yoruba land, we wud teach them a lesson" they went and stopped the leadership of the market for reasons known to them, igbo traders there who were annoyed by it, thinking they were living with there brothers who treated them with equality went to protest PEACEFULLY, they waited knowing they were coming staged youths with canes and pounced on them, and started reversing the story.
Nobody is changing the story here! Should I have to remind you that the first story was got from the eediot's narration!
The true story is that he and his cohorts came to protest! And the eediot have the guts to wear his stup!d crown at that!
And you are a goat for that highlighted part! I should inform you that you are conversing with an Ondo citizen here! Yeye man!
Let me ask you, can such 'peaceful' protest happen in your ibo land? Definitely No!

I don't support this call outrightly but...

“It is globally accepted that there cannot be two kings in the same domain as there cannot be two captains in the same boat.”

However, this calls is against the spirit of National Unity and Oneness, BUT our Igbo brothers and sisters should tread softly and let understand our limitation when on foreign land until the law is amended.

Agba ki wa lo ja, ki ori omo tuntun wo oooo.

I am proudly Nigerian and not advocating for any tribe / race.

foreign land? Unity? One Nigeria? Immigrants? Oneness?

brother FireFire the above bolded statements contradicts everything about unity in Nigeria.

we claim to be one nation but at the same time immigrants grin

maybe it's time to tell ourselves the truth because there's nothing like one Nigeria

Its not your eze responsiblity to choose market leader anywhere in yorubaland, you need to go and find out what "oja oba" means and just remember that this tradition predate nigeria itself.
Ondo state is the one with rocks and forest all over if I remember well, so if I come to Ondo and I want to start breaking these rocks into gravel whicb I would pay for to the govt, if after I start and I measure it and pay royalty to the state so if my company doesnt know that there is a reverred stone in ondo dat nobody should touch and I dont know that and I touch it, instead of u people to have warned me before now because am an igbo man even my workers that are yorubas wont gimme a tip off saying "Oga dat stone na sacred one no touch am o" they would allow me touch it so that there village head would gimme a friendly invitation to his palace only to tell some youths to hide at his backyard with cane when I to respect the oba, someone I cud just shun if the worst happen I enter the nearest bus back to the east, but I respected his throne by honouring his invitation greeted him bowed to him only for the moment am about to raise my face some youths pounce on me and start flogging me....Its not so o.

If ibos are called to order in other parts of Nigeria, must the solution be biafra? What about SE? Remember that biafra was a disaster for you!
Yes!
The solution is Biafra kos we the Great Igbos have lost faith in Nigeria.
It was a disaster kos instead of you guys fighting, you guys were busy pillaging and razing down villages!
There'd be a rematch...and when it comes,it'd be felt all over Nigeria. I'd not be surprised if Nigeria's population falls by 60% at the end of the debacle grin

Igbos just seem to be a very difficult lot. They will not try to understand the feelings of others.

In Yoruba tradition, the control of markets was central to a King's authority and even with modernisation, democracy, Constitutions etc, markets remain a key bastion of a King's authority. Even civilian governments try & carry the King along when it comes to market matters.

This social contract / understanding between the locals & their traditional rulers dates back centuries, hence why you'll never see a Yoruba man/woman challenge a King over a market.

But now, this arrangement which has served to preserve social order in Yoruba land for centuries is being put in jeopardy because Igbos say it doesn't suit them! They want to control these markets becos of something called democracy or modernisation. This is very insensitive. Why can't Igbos consider other people's feelings?

I can authoritatively tell you that Igbirra constitute about 10 per cent of the voting population of Ondo State, but you'll never see them behave like this.

I think it's unfortunate the man was manhandled, but that's the danger when you push people to the wall.

It's as if the Igbos have an agenda to forment inter tribal chaos. As a stranger in a land, yes, you can challenge some things, but challenging a people's tradition in this way is peculiar to Igbos and ill advised.

I dont want Biafra but if my plans ever come to past u yorubas would wish they gave Igbos Biafra when they had the chance.
if igbos were to hv Biafra there would be no fun in it anymore.

Stop threatening violence, nobody can predict the outcome of violence. Tune into CNN or Aljazeera and see millions of Syrian refugees treking thousands of miles including virtually swimming across the Mediterranean in order to get to Europe as refugees. If they knew they would suffer this much, they would have "jejely" let Assad be. Even if the war stops today, it will take Syria and syrians 20 years to get back to where they were before the war.

But when will your coward people begin to drop the sophisticated toga on fulanis or is it because igbos have chosen to be peaceful?

Igbos have always been known to be poor with history.

Hit google or if you have few bread to break for knowledge, hit jstor and search for Jalumi and Osogbo wars.

Also, look up the various conflicts with Yoruba. One that was so bad Buhari was forced to come down SW to meet with the governor.

Yoruba have long let the sophistication that makes no sense to me push them into certain situations where they took jabs from people they've trumped in wars Pre-independence and Post-independence. And now, it is starting to change, 2014 was a year of awakening.

Don't be dnmb, Kwara is a conglomerate - Nupe, Bariba, Fulani and Yoruba. Kwara is already demarcated due to settlements along ethnic lines. So, from Ilorin South: Ganmo to Offa is Oduduwa's and we have no reason to worry.

Don't bother about the Fulani, Olodumare will take care of them.

Why are you this incoherent. You insinuated that an Eze Ndigbo is equal to a king and i asked for clarification and you are talking about fancy hats. What if the Deji hate the fancy hat and orders for its removal, besides you do not wear hats (fancy or otherwise) when visiting higher authority like kings, elders and deities.

an eze ndigbo is not a traditional king he is like a social leader of igbos in a foreign land.
If ur Oba doesnt like foreign hats if he asks him to remove it there is no way he wont.

I went to Benin city earlier this year, and I was in no doubt I was in a 'foreign land' and conducted myself carefully knowing I was far from 'home'.

Even when l'm in Abuja I feel the same. I feel and know I'm a stranger there. It would be no different from being in Accra or Lome. This feeling did not stop me from doing my business and being friendly with people in Benin or Abuja, but inside me & irrespective of what the Constitution says, I exercised caution in these places at all times. I saw myself as an immigrant in both cities.

I am surprised Igbos seem chocked when they are told they are foreigners in Yorubaland. You are.
