The rest batches where shipped which came with era armor "t-72Mi".

Not entirely correct.

Nigeria bought T-72 tanks from 2 sources.

-Ukraine

-Excalibur group, a Czech republic defence contractor.

The Ukrainian tanks are T-72AV. These are the ones with ERA. The other Tanks from Czech republic are T-72M1s these tanks do not have ERA. They were purchased from Hungary by Excalibur from Hungarian surplus stock.

The Czech deal only cost Nigeria a paltry $8 million, that is, only a handful of tanks and 16 other types of vehicles.. The Antonov that delivered the vehicles made only 3 trips to Nigeria.

It is important we wait out this investigation. You can't tell us that if actually, as it is alleged over $3 billion was released specifically for arms procurement, the equipment on the ground tallies.

Again, these are allegations.

@henry I understand that they are allegations and not untill when proven?
But are you telling me $3billion tallies with most second hand equipment on ground.....?

Nigerian defence spending has always been shrouded in secrecy. the truth is that the info available to most of us borders on speculation and rumours and some half truth and some facts. lets see what the outcome of the investigation. almost every point given has some internet site info to back it up. the only consistent thing is a the lack of transparency that always leaves room for speculation.

NO one is absolutely certain of what we bought and how many we bought but the purchasers and those privy to inside info from the military. the only thing that is certain is that we did not buy in adequate quantities and we dont always buy right

Exactly, if you read that my post again, you'll see that i said, the equipment just doesn't tally with the money.

14 tanks were only delivered.
SIPRI mentions 10 + 4 tanks.

If you're current with international norms, questions were being raised (various international blogs plus videos and pics showing excalibur before it was known that they were to be exported) about Czech Republic trying to move tanks into Ukraine at the height of the Russian/Ukrainian crisis (this were some that eventually became Nigeria's)

Unless you can do better than the sources you posted, I'll believe we got more than a bit over a dozen.

By the way, excalibur purchased the tanks from Hungary.

Dasuki's lawyers released statements about 14 tanks bought. SIPRI stated same. These tanks were part of the bunch sold by Hungary to excalibur.

Like said, supply me valid references for your own numbers.

If dansuki said we bought only 14 or 16 t72 tanks ; then with pictures that I have seing and t72 tanks have seing around suggest we purchased close to 100 units, both variants I mean.

As regards arms purchase.

SIPRI told me unequivocally early this year that there arms transfer database is based on open source data.

Governments such as that of Nigeria are known to procure arms in secret and as such their data is exhaustive.

The letter was in response to an email i had sent to SIPRI showing that 3 NAF Helicopters, 261, 260 & 546 weren't captured in their database.

Nobody can say categorically what Nigeria bought until the facts on Dasuki's trial is concluded.

There is high level corruption in arms procurement, we are all aware of this, however until a proper trial is carried out we should not be in such a hurry to give a dog a bad name just to hang it.

Let us see the facts.

Here is the thing, Official Data from the Ukrainian government shows that Nigeria received 16 T-72 Tanks. The tanks from the Ukraine are all AV models.

So what about the Tanks from Hungary through Excalibur?
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by BlackBaron: 3:00pm On Dec 03, 2015
Lol.
100 tanks, 50 tanks.
All good. Our tanks were purchased via Excalibur from Hungary. This is well known for those monitoring external defence stuff. Go on and link to the eventual transfer by rail to Czech Republic to excalibur.
Start googling and see for yourself.
And if the ex nsa has stated a certain number of tanks, where are your own numbers from.

Are you asking me why your country is so secretive to shield number of MRAPS from whats a private defence company?
The head of the former government's NSA stated 14 we never heard his mention of mrap numbers.
So as the leader of the procurement mentioned 14, did you import the others?

grin grin shocked cool...... so why are you insisting that we only purchased 16 t72 MBT. My point is that sometimes you can't only use SIPRI or even defence procurement source to base your judgement, am not saying these websites/sources are not good. But Just get your sources and gather facts that's all.
If SIPRI knows all sources why the number of BIGFOOT MRAP and the REVA APC is missing and some other NAF procurement. The reason is simple they only make use of open source made available.

Like I said 16 Tanks were delivered to Nigeria from Ukraine

In
January, Ukrainian airplane “Mria” delivered to Africa 16 tanks for the
Nigerian military. Several media sources interpreted this event as the

This from Excalibur group alone.

russia-insider.com/en/2015/03/16/4565

So, I contacted SIPRI. I sought to know why Nigerian military procurement assets are always under-enumerated by the research institute or are totally missing entirely. I discovered a whole lot of anomalies in their arms transfer database, the Hinds and MI-17's from Ukraine(NAF 261, 525,526 etc etc) are not listed.

Here, the reply I got from their Senior researcher.

[b] As usual Nigerian arms procurement is relatively secretive and our open source derived data can only be an indication of the true scope and volume of Nigerian arms imports.

We are always searching for more information, but we only use open sources for our database.

A good example of the secrecy around arms procurement in Nigeria. We only noticed the information abut the Gazelles when the database had already been closed and was ready for publication. We have no idea how many Gazelle's Nigeria has procured and where they came from. We believe they were delivered in 2015, and my best guess is that they come from Serbia or France. Both countries have plenty of Gazelles in stock.

the Igirigi, the number of 10 transferred is a pure estimate, very likely a significant underestimate. We do not know how many have been ordered and how many more are planned to be delivered.

best regards

$2bn arms deal probe: N600m military boats fraud uncovered, AVM Atawodi arrested

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Wednesday evening, arrested Air Vice Marshal Salihu Atawodi in relation to the $2bn arms contract allegedly disbursed by the Office of National Security Adviser, ONSA.
The former Chairman of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Marine Safety, was arrested over a case of conspiracy, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.

Atawodi is alleged to have abused his office by defrauding the Nigerian government of over N600m through a dubious contract to purchase military boats.
The contract was awarded to Alhaji Rabiu’s Hypertech Nigeria Limited, who never supplied the boats in spite of being fully paid.

Atawodi, who recently retired from the Air Force, is being questioned by the EFCC over the contract award process, which violated the Procurement Act.
His arrest has been confirmed by EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, who said he’s also assisting with the investigation.

Atawodi joins several politicians and top military officers implicated in the diversion of defence budget and funds meant for the procurement of arms.
Others who are currently in detention over the arms deal are: former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki; Chairman Emeritus of Daar Communications, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa and former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda.

Troops discover Boko Haram hideout-tunnel in Sambisa, free hostages [PHOTOS]

Troops of the Nigerian Army are continuing their advancement towards the main camp of the Boko Haram sect in Sambisa.

During the encounter, the troops freed many hostages and dislodged some Boko Haram insurgents, who fled on sighting them.

Army sources told DAILY POST that the Boko Haram fighters cannot escape into towns as there were many check points at all Sambisa exits and entry routes.

The troops discovered a tunnel the sect uses as hideout from military air strikes.

They also destroyed Boko Haram flags, motorcycles, among other properties.

Some images of the operation were obtained by DAILY POST Thursday night.
